  • Even though my rabbits are primarily meat & show animals, I try to give them the best life possible. This includes lots of hay, fresh greens, and enrichment. Rabbits LOVE to chew, and dried pinecones are perfect for satisfying a rabbit’s need to chew, shred, and throw objects around. In this post I’ll be showing you how to prepare pinecones for rabbits and how I made mobile toys for all of mine this Christmas.

    Where I live, I'm surrounded by pine trees, like literally, they're everywhere. Same with birch. I never knew you could use those as toys! Thanks!

    Loved this idea and watching you make them! The kids are going to be making them for our bunnies today. I'm new to your channel but I'm binge watching everything now, lol. Just wonderful, thank you! We found you thru your hutch build video. We are new to raising rabbits so I'm trying to absorb everything. Your love and care for your animals shines thru and it's so beautiful.

    I love the pinecones! Such a cool idea. Our property is loaded with them.
    If the pinecones are already open (I live in Florida) should we still bake them? Is it to disinfect or to open the cones?

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 3 lety +4

      I would at least wash them in vinegar to remove and kill any pests. You don’t necessarily have to bake them unless they are extra sappy. Sap isn’t toxic to rabbits, but you just don’t want it to get in their fur 😊 baking them makes the pinecones crispy and hardens the sap once they cool. Hopefully that helps!

    Those Creme D'Argents are beautiful 😍, are u planning on getting "new homes" for them or we'll they also be for the meat project?

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 3 lety +1

      They are! ❤️ Some of them that I think will make good breeders or show animals will be sold, but after evaluating some will be for meat. And of course Cassia gets to stay here as a breeder/show rabbit 😊

    We have recently started keeping rabbits and our buck has E.Cuniculi, his git about a week left of his treatment but his symptoms haven't improved. I've been reading that some rabbits dont recover from the damage (head twitch and un-balanced). Would we need to cull him or is there anything else we can do? Any advise you have would be amazing. Thank you x

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Jody, I personally don’t have experience with E. Cuniculi, but I do know that you can use goat-safe ferbendazole for 28 days for treatment (which you may already be doing). If he still hasn’t improved I might put several drops of ivermectin pour-on (blue liquid) within each ear in case it’s a case of a parasite or mites within the ear canal. Make sure to take care of him last and wash your hands thoroughly, as e. Cuniculi can be zoonotic. I really hope this helps! Would love to hear if he improves ❤️

      @@TealStoneHomesteadHis having the fenbendazole treatment in the last week now. I will definitely give the ear mite treatment a go. Thank you so much x

      They are resting mats! I place them close to the food bowls they they can be more comfortable as they eat.

    question why can't they just have them straight off the tree or ground ?

      they will dig their way out, or predators will dig their way in.

  • @bubblecatanimation8000

    Odd question, but did you eat Coal and Thorn, they were your first silver foxes so I thought they would stick around for a bit longer then they did. No hate or anything, I'm just curious.

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 3 lety

      No, I actually sold both of them to wonderful people just starting out with Silver Fox! It was the hardest decision to let Thorn go, but he sired over 50 babies while he lived here. I just didn’t have any more use for him in the near future. But I hear he’s had a couple of girlfriends since leaving us 😊 Coal as well! Coal always had limited use here since he was Hollyhock’s half brother.
