  • I share my challenge to survive as long as possible as an independent count with only one personal barony holding using mainly stewardship and learning perks In this recent CK3 playthrough, I play between a rock and a hard place as the Count of Suenik.
I demonstrate how you can still do quite well even with one province, turning it into an economic powerhouse even when restricted by the game mechanics.
I also share some tips and tricks I use along the way which I hope also let you have fun when building a powerful medieval kingdom capable of dominating medieval Europe in your next playthrough of the new Royal Court expansion to Crusader Kings III!
Let me know in the comments if you enjoyed the video and if there are any tips, tricks or other crucial concepts that you think I missed.

One house ruling a single county for 402 years is an impressive feat in its own right, if we're being honest. Might even make a footnote in a book on the history of Armenia.

Only way to survive is to kidnapping priests from large realms (high income priests) or with priests with stackings gold (gold will be inherit)-just recruit priest first time from prison to your court, then imprison second time and banish. 1000-2000 from one priest is very powerful instead searching infinite hooks. In 1100 will be persons with 10000 gold). With traditions on mercenaries you are strong to defend even without alliances

Never done a one barony challenge but I usually deal with renown growth by picking up the +50 marriage acceptance as my first or second dynasty legacy. Pays for itself really fast if you setup your marriages right, a lot of the time you can even manage it matrilineally with your daughters (landed characters will usually not accept matrilineal, but you can often get people who are going to inherit).

@@MellowScot Now that I think about it, if you do that while playing one barony you definitely won't be the dynasty head for very long! Still, getting random crap legacies is better than not having any legacies.

Not gonna lie, it was a damn good run even if it ended in defeat. Definitely try throwing some intrigue in there next time to keep your neighbors in a perpetual state of disarray.
This was super entertaining to watch though! :)

You should do a one life challenge play through. Basically everything a character dies you play a new random character and see how far you can advance that character during their lifetime.

One idea I had, was to marry the children of dukes and such, or at least characters with pressed claims on higher titles, and then press your childrens claim on those titles, meaning they'd be stronger, you' get more renown, and you would never hold it directly.

What you need to do was gain whole duchy and build them up enough that they are productive... then give them up as a stronger allie. I would go so far as gain 2 duchy for sons who arent special and keep doing that so you can allie with larger armys. But the reality is if you are not owning a gold mine as a only county you already messed up.

Always start with Battlements is my recc, so you can start updating your castles. A bit more relevant I guess when your culture has more counties though!
edit: for renown, spamming the diplomacy tree for the books is good: they are also misc slot items if you don't have a court, which is strictly superior to the others and lets you get more lifestyle XP bonuses
final edit: Yeah, there wasn't much you could have done, other than snipe early for a holy site to found the holy order, which you then would have lost with the reformed faith. You maybe could have headed north into tribal/jewish lands to simply spread your religion but it's iffy if it could have helped at all, very weak benefit/cost ration compared to CK2 for it

@@MellowScot The AI in generl jumps in way, way more to defend anyone, including you, from Holy Wars in CK2 than they do in CK3 and for more isolated religions it provides more marriage candidates and alliance options as well (though the pre @MellowScot They jump in way, way more to defend you from Holy Wars than they do in CK3 and for more isolated religions it provides more marriage candidates and alliances (though the "Present Debutantes" button made that a lot less of an issue than it can be in 3)
I did this a lot with the Zunists, because throwing down a bunch of very grateful tribals on worthless land ended up giving me a lot of allies and defenses later.

I was wondering why you didn't start off trying to murder the Abbasid rulers. If you keep killing them, eventually the whole thing is going to break apart. The intrigue life style is literally the best thing for this "playstyle". I was surprised that you didn't go for it.

I think that the mistake you made at the end was buying the mercs. You probably still would have lost, but I think the negative for being in debt is worse than the bonus you get for the extra soldiers. Also, your commander (Your ruler) has pretty low advantage anyway. You need to work on getting better commanders. I know it costs prestige and some money to buy them, but if I usually end up doing the "Invite Champions" decision on cooldown when I am playing a small kingdom that struggles to fill my roles (Has been most noticeable when trying to do Jewish playthrough in Ethiopia.)
