- In this video, I take the lowest ranked playable nation in the world (Bahrain) and turn it into the most prosperous economy on the planet by using shrewd economic theory and planning, warfare and diplomacy! As my first attempt at the game, can I use my extensive knowledge of Paradox games and economics to complete this Victoria 3 challenge?! This video can asko serve you as a guide to the economic system.

I didn't expect this to be a lecture on macroeconomics, but I am thoroughly enjoying it.
Only 860 hours in Eu4, you still have much to learn young grasshopper.(crying in 1480 hours)
It’s mostly from the early days - I have some catching up to do!
@@MellowScot Don’t do it. I regret every single one of my 4K hours…
Pff, children
* Chuckles in 8k hours *
I have 20000 hours in roblox rise of nations
@@cmtg461 at that point just pirate a paradox game
Not even one minute into the video and i am already enjoying it, the editing is perfect and you’ve done a great job
Thanks a tonne!
@@MellowScotUSA "ton" British "tonnenine"
actually land based taxation taxes the poor more than per capita because land based is almost entirely on peasants which are the poorest
Oh... the land based tax is not a land value tax it’s more like a medieval tithe system! Oops
per capita taxation is actually the fairest imo
Alternate title: how to make Victorian Singapore
If you are up for another challenge, you should try to play as one of the countries in African Great Lake region, they have like only 3 starting technologies in total, so they cant even build factories at start of the game, and their expansion is very limited. Only a few other equally backwards country and then its just decentralized nations all around.
Ah nice good idea!
It will be extra added challenge cuz people there won’t work 😂
I really like seeing you play Victoria 3. Maybe seeing you build up an economy and immigration as Uruguay would be fun? Or seeing you strike independent with Scotland :P
Both good ideas - still trying to figure out the migration mechanics. Tried to do it with this one but nobody wanted to come to the desert paradise :(
@@MellowScot if you right click any state and click "greener grass campaign", that state will get +50% migration attraction at the cost of 100 authority. basically, this means that your state will take more people from other countries in your shared market.
@@Iimitbreak_. I did but it still wouldn't help for this country - might be to do with the segregation laws
as a bahraini i approve of this video
Thank you for the revision for my economics modules, it's very helpful
10/10 would still procrastinate on revision
Very nice video, loved the small sections on economic theory
thanks, enjoyed making those vids and glad it appealed to some people!
Amazing video. I’d LOVE to see more Victoria from you legend- this is video is great. Watched it while playing XBox and ended up putting the controller down because it’s more interesting than my game 😂
Thanks so much!
Lol mix of capitalisam and socialisam hes soviet antham in beckgroumd
This is amazing - love it! Make more please
Thanks a lot!
Very educational and also well-made from the point of view of media production, with the cuts, the music and the jokes. It also highlights how good simulators Paradox games make.
Agreed fully
Brilliant video. Love the edited memes 👌 keep it up
Thanks a bunch!
This video entertained me a lot. This is well done~!
Thanks a bunch!
first time checking out your channel and certainly enjoyed it :D
Thanks a tonne!
Nice video, didn't expect to see microeconomics introduction in the video but i'll take it
Was a slight passion project of mine - I wanted to practise a bit of video editing and it let me do that and also gives a bit of the background to why vicky 3 is designed as it is. Won't be going into so much depth for future playthroughs
wow, it's amazing all of this video, full entertainment, new sub
Thanks a tonne!
The combined exallency in this videos editing, storytelling/script, and content is so good. It makes me want to play victoria 3 even more, but sadly i don’t have it or the ~$50 required 😢 definitely earned a sub! As good if not better than that guy from college even tho he has like 5x your subcount
One of the best Vic 3 videos I’ve seen
Wow thanks!
i have a economics exam tomorrow. i was not expecting to be studying in this video
the only hard thing about this game is to fight against the incredibly overpowered brits and french armies
Surprisingly I learned something
Great, my degree was not useless in the end...
Use the corn laws its meta you can get a market liberal landowners so you can pass ,free trade and abolished serfdom and laissez faire in the early game without upsetting the landowners you can also declare a war with great brittain and immediately backdown if the demand is ban slavery so that you can have slavery banned pretty early
Sounds cheesy but might use in another video - had no idea about the corn laws!
What are corn laws???
@@Jduekengn its a journal entry but its been nerfed a few patches ago it now need the grain is at least +25% of base cost to trigger and it will give you a market liberal landowner as an agitator that you can grant leadership to be the ig leader so you can easily pass free trade, laissez-faire etc.
Been a while. Almost thought you left youtube. Glad to see you back Scot.
Thanks! Was holidaying for a a few weeks!
Alright my econ nerd I see you. Good shit so far.
Would love to see you play as a Caribbean nation take over the Caribbean and make them an economic powerhouse.
You should check if the Bahrain government is hiring
I think they’re actually not doing too bad!
I have been watching a lot of victoria 3 gameplay videos, and absolute all of them do the same strategies and with the fundamental pillar "join the british market"
Such underrated channel 😊
Thanks!
this vid is so high quality GAH DAMN
Thanks, this one took a while to make - was a bit of a passion project
Wow it's itching me the economy more than school will ever do
Dude cool video
Thanks a tonne!
I very much love this and I have only one remark.
When you are showing graphs (like the Supply and Demand one at 3:21) it would be nice if you kept the background one colour.
It is *extreamly* minor and litetally my only nitpick.
Yeah good point I probably needed a bit more contrast
So this was basically an economy lesson 101 w/ victoria 3
Liked. Subscribed. Comment here. Please give us more you beautiful bastard.
I want to try a freddo
Please note that Victoria 3 money is probably not adjusted for inflation so the GDP per capita for Bahrain in this game could be very high adjusted for inflation.
UPDATE: Adjusting for inflation and the fact that the GDP is per week and not per year in Victoria III. Bahrain's GDP per capita in this game would be around £36,300 which is definitely developed country GDP per capita right there
Now apply economic theory to Victoria 2
my mans just made australia, interest groups in power and everything
To much common sense, and useful information. not enough incest…
Lol just kidding, great video dude
Don’t worry a new ck3 dlc is on it’s way for that!
Nice playthrough! In most cases, a small country will want to join a customs union, and possibly sign a defensive pact, rather than become a protectorate. Would have expected the Internationale there.
How on earth did you reach 4 million people while living in the freaking desert? lol...
Victoria 3 moment
Immigrants from the whole British Empire flocking to get those juicy, juicy factory salaries in the desert.
Money, saudi arabia noises
Anybody noticed the Soviet anthem in the background
This game is a front for the FSB (new KGB) to use as a brainwashing and recruiting tool of western citizens. 😂
nice editing
Thanks!
Wow you just made my country better
Would love to see you play as a central America and make them an economic powerhouse.
I think I might give this a go trying immigration as gives some more mechanics to try
I like your video.
Thanks!
If it is a capitalist Utopia why did you play the Soviet anthem in the background as you ended the video?
Irony
Julius Evola hates every step of this playthrough.
wow this is the first video ive seen dealing with economics in any fashion that wasnt just "capitalism le bad" but was actually really entertaining and informative, this made me actually enjoy economics for once! I think my only desire would be seeing essentially the same thing just in greater detail and depth especially concerning the actual theory and economics of it. But I digress, you made a great video i really liked it!
It was a bit of a passion project for me as I have a degree in the subject and really liked how the devs have tried to model the system.
@@MellowScot do you think you could do a video like this on Victoria 2? It handles the economy in a very different and strange way that I'd love to see someone like you cover
Also, fantastic video! Surprised you have so little subs
You want a challenge for V3, form Indonesia as anybody but the Dutch. Extra Bonus Challenge, first extra challenge is even finding Yogyakarta, but then take them and form Indonesia.
Nice will keep this one in mind
at the end of the video, the anthem of Russia is playing. like
yeah a nod to next video XD
You should try Central America, you could build a market based in fruits, coffee and tobacco, and maybe expanding a bit.
definitely a region I want to try and also make use of immigration mechanics
Bro has a better economic growth with the last country in the world than me with Prussia. I guess I suck at Vicky3
also i tried this and the problem i ran into is that the UK isoesnt want me as a protectorate but in your version they had the attitude of protective. how did you get that? did you mod or something
Just reload sometimes you also get ottomans too as an option
@@MellowScot ohh it’s that easy ok
I clicked for Victoria 3 stayed for economics lessons
what is the music used in 12min07 ? thanks a lot
Habanera from carmen
I thought I knew how to play this game because I could regularly get to over a billion GDP. Im now realizing I could probably get it higher if I played like this
The fact that this is possible shows how broken the game is
It's a sandbox game though, every paradox game generally lets you do crazy stuff if you want doesn't it?
What about theocracy germany? Sorry for my bad english
In Victoria 3? Wish at the moment that would add a bit more flavour - definitely one to come back to when more dlcs are out
Lore of How I turned the POOREST Nation into a 'CAPITALIST' Utopia (Victoria 3) momentum 100
Когда-нибудь до всех дойдёт абуз землевладельцев через хлебные законы
And then eventually they would get a banger racetrack as well
Huh, could you not get Corn Laws and replace the leader of the Landowners with a Market Liberal?
Someone else mentioned this - I had no idea about these but they sound quite cheesy - still I will likely do another play through using them
Ck2 on top
i sub
Thanks!
“Become a protectorate of Britain”
You should ask India how that went for them with being one of the top richest countries in the World before Britain took over to one of the poorest in the World after Britain left.
6:40 why would u delete the buildings just increase your infrastructure 😅
Can you do a religious school, autocracy/oligarchy, monarchy with capitalism playthrough for greece. I tried, but by the intelligentsia was a constant thorn in my side.
Oddly specific request, any reason for those in particular?
@@MellowScot I basically tried to role play as a capitalist byzantium. Managed to form byzantium, but my economy sucked and standard of living was between 12 and 14. The industrialists were constantly angry at me eventhough I tried to please them at almost every opportunity. I could never kick out landowners without my legitimacy falling to 6 feet underground. The only groups that were constantly loyal to me were the armed forces, even though is never prioritized them.
@@sasi5841 Ah ok a byzantium run would be a nice idea for a video I think!
@@MellowScot capitalist monarcy byzantium
I need help making wallachia the most economic power
I now have a slightly better idea of how to manage the economy. I just start hemorrhaging increasing amounts of money as I expand my construction industry to bolster my economy. I build to make up deficits rather than maximise profits and still have endless wood shortages
Be careful not overdoing it with the construction sector - it's meta to go a bit in debt and use income and consumption taxes early game to fund that but if you make a debt spiral it's gg
A lot of people have the idea that going in debt is disastrous. Nations do it all the time, and most rich people actually have bigger debts than they do profits or even assets. This allows for more "economic mobility" so governments can invest more into public works without having to worry about funds. In Victoria 3, going on a deficit is a good idea if you have a strong reserve or going in debt temporarily to ensure economist boosts. But yeah if you overdo it with constructions and your citizens aren't being pulled out of poverty, you'll fall into a debt trap the way many countries do irl. I find that it's not completely impossible to get out of them without defaulting, but you need major austerity measures and you practically won't be able to build anything for a long long time.
This guy should make his own company he will be rich in year
~560 hours in CK3? thats rookie numbers, its like playing ireland, you need to pump up all your hours
Lol I thought this was fairly high!
@@MellowScot anything less than 1000 is baby numbers, i'd reckon 3000 hours is a novice at paradox, 5000 is advanced, 10,000 is the master
WHY AM I GETTING AN ECONOMICS LESSON AND ENJOYING IT'???
Haha I succeeded!
Wait is it russian anthem at the end of the video?
Ooppps I double commented
im from bahrain :
Be honest my man , how many times your game crashed ?
🏘
thats not the weakest, havent you seen the rock nation become one of the most economic nations in the world?
My brother in Christ i have 2300hours in eu4 and still larning new stuff...
I’m looking forward to getting back into it, doesn’t look like vicky is too popular at the moment
Once again proving social democracy is the superior economic model
Which is why I just made a video on the opposite XD
Nuh uh
Why blud teaching us economics
Why not?
please check your microphone, there is a small buzz when you speak
What do you mean? I can’t hear any noise
@@MellowScot it sounds like the acoustics is a bit bad and there is like a light buzz when you speak
@@reshetovman is the last few mins of the video any better? This is a new mic and I changed the settings in the latter half which may have helped that “buzzing”
Bahrein can do this irl, just remove islam
Ayoooo?? You want to say that they should stop the second most influential religion from existing, yeah gl with that.
