  • PLEASE READ if you are interested in details: Quran does not mention to cover face (وَجْهِهِ) , however a Hadith refelcts uncovering of face وَجْهِه and hands:
It was narrated from Aishah that Asma bint Abi Bakr entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wearing a thin garment. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) turned away from her and said: “Oh Asma, when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it is not proper for anything to be seen of her except this and this,” and he pointed to his face and hands.”
[Sunan Abu Dawud (Darussalam Publishers, 2007), volume 4, p. 422, The Book of Clothing, chapter 31: “What a woman may show of her beauty,” Hadith number 4104. The Hadith is Mursal by itself but authentic due to supporting narrations and is used as evidence for this matter . . . It was authenticated by Sheikh Al-Albani in Sahih Sunan Abu Dawud, vol. 2, p. 774, number 3458.

With regards to Hadiths The Prophet in one Hadith that the only portion of the women's body can be left uncovered are the face and the hands. What the Prophet said must prevail and not the opinion of others.

    Please remember:
'God desires ease for you, and desires not hardship' (Quran;2:185)
'God desires to lighten things for you, for the human being has been created weak' (Quran;94:28).
Prophet Muhammad said: 'Do not overburden yourselves, lest you perish. People [before you] overburdened themselves and perished. Their remains are found in hermitages and monasteries' (Musnad of Abu Ya'la). Moreover, whenever the Prophet had to choose between two options, he always chose the easier, unless it was explicitly forbidden (Bukhari). When the Prophet sent his Companions Mu'adh and Abu Musa to teach Islam to the people of Yemen, he gave them the following advice: 'Facilitate [religious matters to people] and do not make [things] difficult. Obey each other and do not differ [amongst yourselves].' (Bukhari & Muslim). On other occasions he also said: 'This Deen or way of life is easy'; 'Make it easy, don't make it difficult; 'Let people rejoice in being Muslims and not run away from it' and 'Cheerfulness towards other people, even a smile is a sadaqah or charity to be rewarded by Allah'.

Islam itself is peaceful. Those monsters are taking their extremist political agendas and painting a thin veneer of religion over it. The Quran explicitly condemns murder. It says that murdering one person is the equivalent of murdering ALL of humanity and that saving one person is like saving all humanity.

Women covering face (niqab) is Obligatory or optional?
A obligatory (fard) or haram (forbidden) should not be of controversial issues in the principles of thought or the rules of shari'a. A great many scholars have elaborated on the issue of Hijab & Niqab (face covering by women, including whom who emphasized this the most are Malik, Abu Hanifah, Ahmed and Ash-Shafi'i. This is why Al-Imam Ahmed, sued to answer Makruh (undesirable)instead of saying haram (forbidden).
It can be noticed that there are two major thoughts concerning niqab (women face covering). For example, Maududi's book "Al-Hijab," is supportive to the niqab. That book is versus to Al-Albani's "Hijjab ul-Marratil Muslimah," which advocates the opinion of no niqab, referring to authentic narrations of Al-Bukhari when a youthful, attractive female asked the Prophet ﷺ a question on Hajj, she was uncovering her face. Al-Fadhil ibn Abbas, his ﷺ cousin started looking at her but the Prophet ﷺ was turning his head from that gaze. Had uncovering the face been haram (forbidden) the Prophet ﷺ would have told her that she should wear a niqab, but he didn't do that. Any statement to that exposure of opinions and studies, there is no room for a clear-cut answer to say niqab is fard (obligatory) or uncovering the face is haram (forbidden). one may not object to any woman if she prefers niqab nor object any man if he wants to cover his face. This is personal business and everyone should feel that they have the option in the arena of what is halal (permissible).
Pakistan's top religious body has said women are not required to cover their faces, hands or feet under Islamic Sharia law, a rare judgement from the conservative council of clerics seen as "encouraging" by rights activists. +Adam Adams; here, copied straight from the quran: *024.031*
And say to the believing women that they should lower their
gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and
ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should
draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to
their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their
husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters'
sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male
servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the
shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw
attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all
together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.

some ulama have maintained that it is waajib because of the practice of covering the face during the time of rasool and the prophet's wives doing it.
what the quran mentions is a leeway and allowance for the basic....if a woman reaches such a level of taqwa fearing that even the face can attract the wrong attention from men and she decides to cover the face, then it is permissible and allowed within the shariah and if the times have become so induced to fitnah (rape/adultery/fornication/pornography/nakedness) like the times today, it becomes necessary to even cover the face.
the ayaj mentions the least of requirements within an Islamic society because it will be mostly free of such fitnah...but think about societies in the western hemisphere where the fitnah is more rampant

Men may travel alone, but some scholars opine that women while travelling out of home be accompanied a male relative, for their protection, where as some others think that women if moving in secure environments may go ahead alone, or travelling as a group of women. This Meharam accompany is especially applied in travelling for Hajj or Umrah, a long difficult journey in old times. There are divergent opinions, but generally majority Sunni Muslims adhere to it even now. Allah know the best.

Was there a formal institution during the Sahabah's time ? Was there a place where you need to graduate from in order to have the right to preach your religion during the Prophet's life? No! So why change our stance on the subject now?

Some one raised question regarding woman covering face in Salah:
The majority of the scholars hold the opinion that the whole body of the woman is `awrah in prayer. However, they all agree that she may uncover her face. Ibn `Abd al-Barr asserts that there is juristic consensus (ijmâ') on this issue. He writes: “They have agreed that the woman may expose her face in prayer.” : Read more >>> en.islamtoday.net/node/588

@hadees4u it was reavelad to wear hijab and cover their faces with garment in those days wen muslims lived with non-muslims, and non-muslim men would tease the muslim women wen they were on their way...but nwadays as we live between muslim men it is only important to cover our heads and not our faces..

Imam Abu Hanifa differs with other 3 great Imams who opine that in Surah Noor 24:31, Face & hands be covered : And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that "WHICH IS APPARENT". Imam Hanifa opine Face, hands are 'apparent' should only be hidden if fear of FITNAH. Allah know best.

    With regard to the Ahaadeeth:
    ========================
1 - It was narrated from Safiyyah bint Shaybah that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) used to say: When these words were revealed - “and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)” - they took their izaars (a kind of garment) and tore them from the edges and covered their faces with them.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4481. The following version was narrated by Abu Dawood (4102):
May Allaah have mercy on the Muhaajir women. When Allaah revealed the words “and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)”, they tore the thickest of their aprons (a kind of garment) and covered their faces with them.

I am not oppressed I chose to cover my body shape and hair to be modest and so men don't look at me just for one thing. Allah the most High has stated this in the Quran aswell so it's a very logical step women should take. Covering of the face is something I do not do but I do understand in certain muslim populated areas than its better for her to Cover her beauty and leave it just for her husband. This will decrease infidelity and lusts for other people.

This is a really good website about women dress code in Islam. Allah the great and merciful has given women more freedom than what most people think. Read the Quran and try to understand it, do not follow what people say blindly, that's considered shirk as you're accepting what people say with blind faith. We should only have faith in God.

What about the understandings of the early scholars of Islam whom mentioned that women should cover their faces??!!. After 1400 years of the Hijab obligation which include the face someone came to say face wasn't included!!!!

In some middle Eastern countries women are not allowed to drive car, I think its more of cultural issue than a religious one. At times people mix up the religious and cultural matters to impose their will upon others. I woman accompanied by a Meharam [husband, brother or father] there should be no problem in driving car.

Not finished...but I have one thing to disagree on already. He says that "90% of a woman's beauty is in her face." It is in her eyes. They say that the eyes are the gateway to the soul, and it is true. You can tell a lot of things about a person by looking them in the eyes. Also, the face will change with age, the eyes will not. The only change in the eyes that is easily seen is emotions. Looking in the eyes, you can see if they are happy, sad, angry, and much more.

  • @teddybruscie
    @teddybruscie Před 12 lety

I could not understand what they were saying 100%, but I think they were saying God has never said the face should be covered, but to prevent temptation Man made up the veil and it's rules, but it was nothing mandated by God. No argument about dressing modestly from either side.
I'm an Atheist myself. I just think it's important to understand cultures to avoid offending people. But I think this discussion might be helpful for those who do follow Islam. I personally think it shouldn't be law.
