    If you’re worried about the screws rusting you could use stainless steel self tapping screws. Great video great channel keep up the good work.

      Hey Adam 👍 yeah good call. The screws I got were Zinc Coated Carbon Steel so hope they will be OK corrosion wise… They will prob corrode slowly than me 😂 Thanks for the kind comments and checking out the videos too 👍

    The area where it drops down at back. You could have just used adhesive to pack it up. Probably use masking tape either side till set. That adhesive is plenty strong enough without screws.
    Ive fitted mine using only adhesive. It's incredibly strong. The only way you can remove it is mechanically . Multitool e.g

    Hi I have the same van and would like to fit these. It would be really helpful to me if you gave me details of the other things you used. Screw sizes, but sizes and type of adhesive. I’ve learned loads watching these. Big help thank you

    Hello again! Thanks for the awesome work and for sharing it! What sort of awning you used on this rail?

    I have a transit custom, but I have a pop top roof, so do you think I could get away with putting my rail on the side before the drainage section ???

    • @TransitCustomCamper
      @TransitCustomCamper  Před rokem +1

      I am not sure to be honest! As the side of the van roof there I think might be curved? So this solution might not be best. I have seen other types designed for the side when there is also a pop top so something designed for the job might be better I think 👍

      Hey James - this was the adhesive I used - amzn.to/3JYCdh4
      It’s has been Ok and not any issues. I think any adhesive, sealant, filler type stuff should be OK ✅ so maybe other brands too.
      The screws I can’t recall exactly 😀 but there were self tapping screws for metal. Picked them up at B&Q 👍

    Will those rail screws hold the awning in a high wind? When the screws go in do they hit any wood or is just the hole the screws make holding down the rails?

    • @TransitCustomCamper
      @TransitCustomCamper  Před 2 lety

      Hi David 👍 it seems to be a really solid fix and also used adhesive too. It’s just into the metal work no wood. We only have a wild earth awning so pretty light weight, and in heavy wind we would have take it down anyway 😂

    Hi
    Just watched your video re fitting an awning rail, as soon to be fitting one. I am looking to buy the same type but the new style, which uses the roof bar fixings to secure the rail, no drilling required. Have you experienced any problems with this type of rail?

      Heya Angela 👋 Nice to hear from you! I can’t remember to be honest but think it was 2/3mm for pilot hole… one thing to watch is near the front I hit what looked be the a pillar reinforced that couldn’t drill into very deep… good luck with it - sure it will be awesome 👍 Have you managed to get away in the van? It’s almost 12 months now since I started my conversion 😲 going away again in June still really happy with the van 👍

      @@TransitCustomCamper we’ve been away quite a bit and most weekends when we can, loving the freedom of just getting g up and heading off! Bought a drive away awning last year and had been using the throw over straps but now want to fit the rail to make it more secure 👍👍

      @@TransitCustomCamper we got a Vango Faros II driveway awning it’s a perfect size for the transit, not too big, it was tested well last year when we went to Skye and it was gale force winds!!! No damage to it at all 😀

      Awning rail fitted!! With very little stress lol, did have the same issue with drilling and couldn’t get it to drill right through at front of van, 2 holes later! Ended up having to fill with sicoflex sealant but all good and can’t wait to try it out next weekend! I’ll send pics when awning is attached 😀 thanks again as always for such informative videos, certainly helped me fit my rail 👍👍

      @@Rob-vn3sp - to be honest Rob not noticed any difference at all really… I did expect it maybe to feel a bit more sluggish with weight but it’s fine.. I think MPG may have dropped a little but not so you would notice really. Only thing is the odd squeak and rattle… I am trying to track them all down though 😃 It’s a daily driver for either me or my wife too so works well as a “big car” too 👍 only one issue we had was not being able to get into a multi storey car park recently 😂

      @@TransitCustomCamper thanks for the update. Really leaning towards a Transit. Just concerned about horsepower to weight ratio, but doesn't sound like an issue.
