  • "The Central Oregon Backcountry Explorer serves as an introductory route to the Ochoco Mountains and the geologic wonderland of the John Day Basin. Ride twisty dirt, gravel and paved roads through old-growth ponderosa pine forests, past stunning volcanic landscapes, old pioneer mines and ghost towns, the Painted Hills, all the way to the friendliest hostel around." - Sarah Swallow, route developer
Dallas Mignano was accompanied by Dominic Zuckswert (‪@dominiczuckswert‬) and Mike Tona on this ride in October of 2023. Special thanks to Dom for capturing most of the awesome footage and pictures seen in this video. I took a break from the GoPro on this one!

Oh for sure, you know it lol. I got a Salsa rear rack for the fat bike recently. Definitely will help if I need to fit more next time. Loving the wide ass frame bag too!

Looks like a great ride! I was just thinking about you on Friday as I was riding up the road along the S. Coos River from Dellwood. A beautiful ride - but what I didn't know was that this is a private road! It turned out ok but I learned that a permit is required or criminal trespass could be filed. However, there are two routes that start on BLM land/roads and cross over the mountains and come out on that road and it is not a violation. Crazy! Glad to see you're doing well..

Glad to hear you’re finding new roads to ride out there, Joe! I hope you’re doing well too. :)

To each their own. I used to ride dirt bikes growing up and my grandpa and dad even raced them. I’m sure a motor bike would be a lot of fun out there too!
