MBO 2024 | Mountain Bike Oregon | Summer Camp MTB Festival
Mountain Bike Oregon (MBO) is Oregon’s annual mountain bike camp. The all-inclusive, three-day mountain biking festival features the best singletrack in Oakridge-a mountain bike gem of the Pacific Northwest and one of six IMBA Gold Level trail center sites.
MBO includes 3 days of shuttle rides to sweet trails, on-site camping, bike vendors, free drinks and bike demos along with other fun social events like the mini bike race and live music. I joined my buddy, Quinn, as we both experienced our first time attending. It was a blast!
I got free demo bikes from Propain (@propain_bicycles) on each day. For the first 2 days, I rode their Tyee 6 CF and on the final day they gave me a Hugene. They were a lot of fun.

In this video, I join some riding buddies for a sunny Saturday ride at the Whiskey Run Trail System on the Southern Oregon Coast (between Coos Bay and Bandon). I've been riding my Salsa Mukluk since earlier this year, including on quite a few bikepacking trips. The stock build was fully rigid, but now I'm trying out the fat bike as an all-terrain hardtail. Fat Bikepacking the Southern Oregon Coast

Jerry and I are back at it again! This time, we're fat bikepacking the southern tier of the Oregon Coast Trail-from Yachats to Port Orford. In late May of 2023, we rode the northern tier. Now, in late September, we're continuing on where we left off. The Oregon Coast Trail (OCT) traverses the majestic 362 miles of Oregon coastline, between the north and south borders. Many thru-hikers will back...

A local buddy on the Oregon Coast, Zack Martin, invited me to join him to ride the IMBA Epic on Mount Saint Helens under the light of the full moon. In this case, it ended up being near the time of the blue Supermoon that graced the area at the end of August. We made it out there the day after, also after a day a cleansing rain, on September 1st of 2023. The trail was in perfect riding conditio...

Fat bikes are an awesome way to explore the Oregon Coast. My buddy, Jerry Gross, threw out this "crazy" idea for a fatbike trip and I got pretty excited to give it go. So, we went for it. I need to get my MTB mojo back on and head out to Oakridge! Great to see an upload from you Dallas, and looks like you had a rad time!
Hell yeah! This was actually my first time riding these trails with full suspension, lots of fun. Also missed seeing you when I stopped by Shift. Cool spot. Maybe next time.
What! Those ridges are scary! And you were going fast! Dang son, you can ride 👏👏🙏👊👍💥 This is more than racing! Gpa Mignano would be stoked😍 That was thrilling with beautiful views & capturing the event also 👌 Good job on footage, music & having fun through it as well💓 I'm a proud mama😃🤩
Def a fun one!!
Great video. Definitely on my bucketblist. Thanks for the video and link to route. At what tire pressure did you use for ridding on sand and on hwy?
Hey Joel, glad you enjoyed the video. We usually had our psi set from 6-10. Lower when in sand and higher when on pavement. Usually ended up around 8 if we didn’t want to adjust it much on a mixed day. Also depends on the tire size and tread. You definitely get a feel for it after a bit on what works best. Even the sand density and texture changed along the way.
Great info on tire pressure, thank you. Can you recommend a good pump for my 26x4 fat tire? Off to watch your southern half video!
@@joelbatts8760 We both use the Lezyne Micro Floor Drive High Volume Pump on our rides. Amazing!
@@BikeCampChill The pump is on the Amazon wish list! Thank you.
Electric bikes at low tide on southern Oregon beaches in the fog and while on magic mushrooms is an amazing experience!
Wow, sounds like quite the trip! :)
Curious how your charging your batteries during this trip. Would be a great ride as long as charging wasnt an issue.
Hey there, these are not e-bikes. We rode with good old-fashioned human power. There were many people along the way that thought we were riding electric as well. We do usually charge up a few power banks to bring and charge our phones and other electronics though.
@@BikeCampChill do you think this trip is doable on an e-bike?
Good question. There are many signs saying “no motorized vehicles” so it depends on how they classify e-bikes in various areas. We do pass many towns where you could get a hotel room to charge each night. Have fun with it! Thanks for watching.
There’s a new trail that recently opened here as well that didn’t make it in the video. Canyon Holler is a fun flow trail. These trails get really good shade as well.
yee really fun, hmu sometime if you are down
Nice trail! Looks like one I could do. BTW; I've recently started to ride the roads in the Tribal Land up around but not to Pony Creek Res. Some of those hills are very challenging to this old guy but I do get a good bit of exercise in a short amount of time.
Always nice to find something challenging you can do close to home! Hope you’re enjoying the coastal weather out there. :)
TY son, for showing us the beautiful land we have around us! Dad & Gpa are with you. That music is awesome! And you know when they say,"thems fighting words?" I'd say "that my son, was a fighting ride!"🎉
It’s been fun finding trails to explore for sure!
Hi Dallas. Looks like a trail well suited for fat tires. Did you ever complete the coast ride from CB to the south? I'm getting ready to do the 3rd annual summer solstice ride from Charleston to the Cape on June 20th. I was just thinking about you the other day while riding through downtown and I'm glad to see you looking good and doing well!
Hey Joe, I’ve been switching back and forth between my Salsa Fargo and the fat bike (Salsa Mukluk). Not really riding for speed lol. We did do the coast all the way to PO but then most of the rideable trail gets more spotty after that. I’m back in CA for now, but will be coming up to enjoy more of OR again soon. Lots to explore. :)
@@BikeCampChillGood luck and keep up the good work!
You did a great job! Your son is a cutie pie.
Kenny did an awesome job for sure. Thanks for watching!
Very cool, thanks for sharing your ride✌🏼
Thanks for watching!
The frame bag was homemade?
Yeah, you can find instructions and templates online! Example here: bikepacking.com/gear/how-to-make-a-bikepacking-framebag-krampus/
Hey, I built one of those benches at the BLM campsite! Glad it survived and you got to enjoy it, too. Thanks for the video.
That's awesome! I'm happy to know you stumbled across this video. That spot saved our asses out there.
Is this ride with a partner???
I rode it with my cousin, lots of fun!
Middle of nowhere. Favorite place to be.
For sure, it was a blast!
@@BikeCampChill how many days in the back country before you reach a town?
yeah I'd rather ride a motorbike
To each their own. I used to ride dirt bikes growing up and my grandpa and dad even raced them. I’m sure a motor bike would be a lot of fun out there too!
I really enjoyed your vid. thanks for putting this on CZcams. RAD!! :)
Thanks for watching dude, I'm glad you liked it. Rad indeed!
Yeah your title is all wrong Oregon is nowhere near the Southern tier the Southern tier is from St Augustine Florida to San Diego California nowhere near Oregon if you're going to print stuff or show CZcams videos at least get your titles right
Hey Scott, this ride/route is about the "southern tier" of the Oregon Coast Trail (OCT), referring to the southern section. Sorry you found that confusing. The thumbnail and title clearly state the Oregon Coast.
This is The anything but panniers endboss... All those tiny bags all over.... So many zippers
Oh for sure, you know it lol. I got a Salsa rear rack for the fat bike recently. Definitely will help if I need to fit more next time. Loving the wide ass frame bag too!
Amazing video!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Solid video Dallas! Great inspiration for the coming season!
Bring on the spring time riding!
Looks like a great ride! I was just thinking about you on Friday as I was riding up the road along the S. Coos River from Dellwood. A beautiful ride - but what I didn't know was that this is a private road! It turned out ok but I learned that a permit is required or criminal trespass could be filed. However, there are two routes that start on BLM land/roads and cross over the mountains and come out on that road and it is not a violation. Crazy! Glad to see you're doing well..
Glad to hear you’re finding new roads to ride out there, Joe! I hope you’re doing well too. :)
"There's a category of people who enjoy that. They usually involve whips and things." LOLLLLLLLLLLLL @ 32:30
Andy is a riot! haha

Great video and route! Thanks for posting Dallas!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome Ride guys!! All that sand and saltwater must've been a little hard and abrasive on your drivetrains and brakes
Hey Chris! Fortunately, we didn’t have any issues with that. There are faucets at most campgrounds to do a quick rinse if needed, but we definitely made sure to clean and re-grease things well when we got home. Maybe we got lucky. Going more than 5 days at a time would probably be pushing it lol.
Man! You guys are tough.
That route is definitely a good challenge! Also nice to not have any mechanical issues out there.
So nice! I’ve viewed over twenty ambulance builds. This is one of the best. Beautifully done. Thanks for being an attentive dad and husband. Blessings for your travels.
Kenny did a great job on his build! I’m glad I was able to capture it and share the love. I’m sure he’ll read your kind words at some point. Thanks for stopping by, David. :)

Thanks for chiming in, glad you like it!
Still dont understand why horses are allowed during plover season and bicycles are not?!!??? Btw:Peters spicy cranberry marmelade is sooo good!
I know! For a public route, we wanted to make sure we followed the state guidelines. Some locals told us we should be fine riding the wet sand, but I've read otherwise during plover season. Luckily, this was still a great sunny window in the season to ride! Maybe things will change in the future, as fat bikes and beach riding become more commonplace. We downed those bottles of cranberry juice so fast!! lol
