The reason Jewish DNA markers show up in certain North American native tribes is very simple. In the early part of European settlement in America, Sephardic Jews settled into the southeastern U.S. Many of them were miners who lived and mined in areas near the Cherokee Nation. Unlike Ashkenazic Jews from Northern Europe, these Sephardic Jewish immigrants assimilated at much higher rates so it was not uncommon for these men to marry Cherokee women and be absorbed into Cherokee communities where they lived.
