Obviously, the Roland TD-9 electronic drum sound module is not a state-of-the-art piece of equipment anymore (it was replaced by the TD-11 years ago, which was replaced by the TD-17 not so long ago). But for all e-drummers out there still using a TD-9, we take a retrospective today & refresh the retro-ish TD-9 with our new drum-tec Real Acoustics Sound Edition!
The sound edition adds 32 new kits (dry & fat versions) to the module, you have to run firmware V2 on the module though. The demo is played on a drum-tec diabolo electronic drum kit, which you can find over here in our online shop:
www.drum-tec.com/pads/drum-te...
You´ll also find all other electronic drum components there:

It is amazing what sounds you can get out of the TD-9! Awesome sound bundle.
Excellent budget option
Amazing drumming Ralf & also good drum machine!
Amazing!!! I really hope this edition for td-15

Kind regards!
Love those ride sounds!!!! Reason why I still keep my td11 module. The ride/hihat combo crispy AF. I’m pretty sure that’s one thing that didn’t change much from td9 to the td11. I can hear it.
Absolutely! :)
AWesome playin as usual :)
Thank you very much! :)
Hi, please excuse my ignorance! I have a Roland td9 and I want to get these sounds in the video on to my kit, how exactly do I do it? I download to programme, transfer it to a usb stick and put the usb in the td9 brain? Again, please excuse my ignorance, I’m new to vdrums but would like to update my kit if possible. Thanks 🙏. Gary
Mom can I get this for Christmas
IF YOU STOP PICKING YOUR NOSE IN PUBLIC
muito top o som da bateria queria saber como é feita a captação de áudio para sair tão bacana no vídeo
Since a couple of weeks I also have a TD9. I have also a td17 and have owned TD6, TD10 and i am very impressed with the good sounds in the library. I also have to say that i sometimes miss-match head and rim sounds on the snare to create a better combination.
Do you find the TD17 is a worthy upgrade from the TD9?
@@jefffilek4768 overall the TD17 has newer technology, better trigger settings for a VH10 hi-hat, pdx12 snare and better sounding cymbals. If you have time or money to buy sound packs you get some very nice sounds. But the build in sounds are not much of variation (snare/toms) and not the same as the TD9. I really like making kits or editing kits on my TD9 from classic rock, jazz, pop acoustic. Next week I will have a pdx12 snare and VH10 hi-hat and I will test and try how this feels different. If I have to choose between an TD9 and a TD17KV I would stay with the TD9. The biggest down is also the biggest plus of the TD17, the option to import sounds, because it is very limited in memory and complicated if you want good sound. But as I mention if you like drumtec, edrum workshop or other online packs it is a great kit.
My favorite is the Acoustic Edition. How far away are Sound Edition for the new TD27.?
Wich sounds better? Ultimate Sound Edition or Real Acoustics Sound Edition?? thanks for your opinion
Sehr prima Präsentation & Grooves! welches Hihat / Pedal / Ständer wird denn hier verwendet? Vielen Dank für die Info im Voraus & liebe Grüße aus Wien.
If I keep watching your videos, I'll be ordering soon! I really like the way drum-tec kits are made, especially the acoustic versions. They're better than Roland! I live in the U.S so I would need info on shipping.
That's great to hear :) don't hesitate to get in touch with the guys through service@drum-tec.de for any further questions or an individual quote on your dream kit configuration incl. international shipping. Kind regards!
@@drumtecTV Thanks, I'll be getting in touch soon.
Man you really have to try yamaha dtx drums we need to hear those kits from your magical hands :)
esses kits foram baixados ou são do próprio módulo?
0.56 what rudiment he played?
Question: We still use our TD-9 for recording. We've run into a problem though. The drums work great connected to the computer and listening live but through headphones they're very distorted. We've tried new head phones, new Jack's with no results. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or has anyone ran into the same problem?
La solución es fácil vuelve a soldar la entrada de Jack del audífono tanto meter y sacar se desuelda😂
How do I get these sounds in the UK?
I have bought this upgrade and it certainly adds another level to the module. I use an ATV snare drum, and it is to low volume compared to my toms.
I am new to editing drum sounds. Do I need to look at the trigger settings or just the snare volume?
Yes you'll have to adjust the trigger settings appropriately for your ATV snare. Feel free to get in touch through experts@drum-tec.de to get more info on trigger settings for ATV pads on Roland modules. Kind regards!
I'm looking to purchase a new Roland module, currently I have an old TD-4. I don't want to buy one though where I'm not going to use 90% of the kits. I have an interest in the Jamaican sounds like Ska, Reggae, Rocksteady, some punk. Any recommendations? Or do I just look for one where I can build my own kits? I'm fairly new to edrums, my TD-4 was used from ebay for $140. I really only purchased it because i just converted my acoustic to an eKit using Roland triggers and cymbals, so i wanted a Roland brain to get me started. I didn't want to dump a bunch of money at the start. But now the cymbals and triggers are working great, I'm already wanting to upgrade the brain. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Oh my price range is about $500. Thanks.
Hi, you should push the budget a little more & get the TD-17 with the drum-tec Live Sound Edition:
www.drum-tec.com/roland-td-17-sound-module-with-live-sound-edition
You can find lots of sound demos below the product. TD-17 is Roland´s best bang-for-the-buck module, it actually is a full blown "middle class" module for Roland entry level price. You can get in touch through info@drum-tec.de for further info or an individual quote incl. international shipping if you like. Kind regards!
Hello Drumtech!
Is it possible for me to connect a cheap module, like the td4 to my current td25 to put in more pads?
Hey Neil, you could use your TD-4 & TD-25 side by side, but you can only send the audio output of the TD-4 module to your TD-25's mix in. You cannot use the TD-4 to "expand" the TD-25 trigger inputs as such. Kind regards!
Hi there, I see 3 editions for the TD9:
Special edition, Real acoustic and Ultimate.
Are those 3 all different ? Can you summarize the difference.
I would like to start with just one, and then go for the others
Thanks

Td-9 always sounded better than the td11 imo.
td-11 is lower quality module, so no wonder. Td-9 was superseded by TD-15, not TD-11
The toms sound tons better than on the TD-11
@@evgenytr yeah, they fucked up the naming a while ago. :D
@@blackasthesky I had TD-9, so had to dig before upgrading. Ended up with TD-30, but TD-9 sounded really good for a fraction of cost.
@@evgenytr yeah, I have one myself. It's pretty good.
I have a fame dd one professional and I would like to replace the module with the td9 and the expansion sound edition. Is this possible, would the pads and especially the hit hat be compatible?
Hi Nandy, I guess the fame pads won't be 100% compatible with Roland, especially the hihat. But you can get in touch through service@drum-tec.de to get more information. Kind regards!
I don't get it........ Roland seems to be going backward with their tom sounds, lately. The toms on TD-9 sounds better than all of Roland recents kits. I might as well buy a used TD-9 for my acoustic-to-electronic drum conversion.
Thank you, glad you like it! Keep in mind that these sounds are not TD-9 stock sounds, but the drum-tec Real Acoustics Sound Edition, that you can find over here:
www.drum-tec.com/modules/drum-tec-sound-editions
Kind regards!
@@drumtecTV well your drum-tec sound editions are the proof that you can get good sounding drums out of Roland modules. However, i've watched the TD-15 drum-tec sound edition video, and I think that this edition with td-9 sounds better ! Want to ask you a question. I have narrowed my choices down to 3 modules that I could get for my drum conversion project, which one would you chose between : Td-9, td-11, td-25 ?
@@JPGroleau What about a TD-17 with drum-tec Real Acoustics Sound Edition? :)
czcams.com/video/SDaefx6Mk5U/video.html
TD-17 is the best bang-for-the-buck Roland module in my opinion. Only thing lacking is positional sensing, which TD-25 would have on snare. Kind regards!
How did y get the sound from TD-9? Stupid question i know but i'm having trouble trying to transfer the midi from my TD-9 to my computer.. :/

guys is it worth upgrading to the td17 module from the td9 with your offer? I'm a drummer and the acoustic one is my primary kit, I prefer to invest on it rather then on my edrums (which I only use for practicing at home). After this video I was thinking about buying this pack for 32€ will it sounds the same on my td9 kit?
Dear Carlalberto, the TD-17 module would be a significant step up from the 2 generations older TD-9 module. It has more natural sounds, and a lot more features, so it would be a good upgrade for sure. And there are lots of great sounding drum-tec sound editions for the TD-17 as well :)

@@drumtecTV I was thinking about changing the whole drumkit actually but a friend told me that the td9 is an amazing kit and I shouldn't if I don't want to invest money on my edrums, he only suggested to change the module, clean it up and play it, in order to have a brand new edrumkit. What do you think?
@@carlalbertocolombo461 All Roland pads will be 100% compatible with the TD-17 module, when the trigger settings inside the module are set up accordingly, so that's not a problem. You might want to look at a bass/snare drum pad upgrade possibly, to drastically improve feeling/rebound/playability of the kit, for example a drum-tec 12" or 13" diabolo snare, as well as an 18" diabolo Real Feel bass drum:

I’m looking to buy TD9 or TD11 I found booth with the same price (used) in my country now I need to decide.

Awesome video as always
What about a TD-17? ;-D in my opinion, the TD-17 outperforms both by far, and you can even take it a step further with the drum-tec sound editions (if you get your TD-17 module from drum-tec, you´ll get the Live Sound Edition as a free goodie).
If a TD-17 is absolutely out of budget, I would suggest the TD-11, as it is newer than the TD-9, has more recent trigger presets & more sound flexibility. And there´s many more drum-tec sound editions for TD-11 than for the TD-9 also:

Roland Should make a retro in the PD-21 - 31 Toms and a module with the vintage electric toms sounds (DDR-30)
Actually, TD-9 was replaced by TD-15, which was replaced with TD-25.
The TD-11 shares a lot more with TD-9 than the TD-15 (some of the same sounds, one additional trigger input, features). The Td-15 being the new middle class module at that time was more advanced and had different sounds. So technically speaking, the TD-11 replaced the TD-9 and is very close soundwise. Kind regards!

Thank you very much Diogo! In this video I was using CY-15R as a ride, and CY-13R & CY-12C as crashes. Kind regards!
Is that a VH11 or 10 btw?
Hey Mike, it´s a VH-11. But VH-10 should also work on a TD-9. Kind regards!
@@drumtecTV Thanks! One more question, is the 18" ATV ride fully compatible with the TD9? Meaning it works, but specifically that I can just plug the RDB cable in like a roland one? Or anything special I need to know about?
@@drummer92192 Hey Mike, generally speaking it should be compatible. You will need to use a CY-15R / CY-13R trigger preset and tweak the settings from there. The ATV cymbals have different bow/bell/edge sensitivity, so that needs to be adjusted in any case. Kind regards!
Wow plenty ghost notes were not picked up by the module 😬 amazing drumming as always :)
They triggered fine my man. Maybe you've just been gigging without ear protection for too long and can't hear it anymore? :)
And Maybe your mouth need to go to school :)
Hey guys, be kind with each other :) I think if you use a good headphone for monitoring, all of the ghost notes will be audible. The TD-9 is an older module with a kind of outdated sound engine, but it´s a Roland so the triggering works perfectly accurate & without any mistriggering. I agree that the low velocity hits are rather silent in some cases, which goes back to the TD-9´s sound engine probably. Kind regards!
@@ahmadreza6818 That wasn't a jab at all come on now. Just a bit of fun. On another note, I was really impressed with the kits. The limitations of the module are obvious but I was really impressed with the sounds nonetheless.
