Around 1963 or so Martin 131 dragway was just getting going and I kind of knew the owner. Things were already loose back then so me and my buddies would be standing within 30-40 feet from the likes of Garlits and “The Greek” at start line. Still the most awesome sounds I’ve ever heard.
That transition from alcohol to nitro gives me goosebumps every time
I return to this video once or twice a month, and when the changeover happens at 1:55 I always crack a smile.
One of my fav youtube vids. I turn it all the way up in my car. The switch is just so epic.
@@michaelpantano9226 I thought I was the only one that did that lol
"Gas is for wash'n parts,alcohol's for Drink'n,Nitro's for race'n" 👈🤠🏁
This has some of the best audio I've heard of the difference between running on methanol (alcohol) and nitro for a dragster. Nicely captured video of the Bill Pitts Magicar.
thx for watching!
Bill is a pioneer in the cackle car reunion, very nice guy !!
@@waynewilliams8554 He is indeed!
Nothing is better than a real engine on nitromethanol!
Such a piece of beautiful music to my ears!!! Had to wipe the tears from my eyes to be able to see the keyboard and write this thank you.
It was a beautiful site indeed!
The first conductor saunters to his task. So cool watching the old pros.
One of the best musicals I've ever heard greatly composed
The 11 thumbs down are from Civic owners.
😂
TESLA !!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@artmchugh5644 This video is about cars, not Toasters or Vacuum cleaners.
TESLA owners 😂😂😂😂😂 I would rather die walking for gas for my Porsche than have that slot car in my driveway!!!
@@artmchugh5644 I'd rather have a Slut Car than a Slot Car!
Love how on the switch over the left bank fires on nitro first, then the right bank follows. For a split second you see and hear four holes firing on nitro and four holes firing on methanol, then it gets rowdy.
Anybody else here from "Vintage nitro dragster warmup"? LOL! Awesome video!
"Wild Bill" Pitts, and the Magicar strike again!
What you call a FIRE SNORTING MONSTER WITH A REAL GROWL AND BARK!
Top Eliminator to the staging lanes, Top Eliminator to the staging lanes.
Love that crackle sound!
You can sure tell a big difference in the hot cackle tune in Magicar in comparison! Pretty healthy amount of fire visible when warming up on alcohol which isn't too flamey normally. Probably running pretty rich so its quite radical on nitro! Perhaps a little softer on the compression ratio and late timing to show off the beautiful nitro fireshow! Love, love, love it! My nose and eyes are burning just thinking about it!
THAT ASTRO CAR,..ALWAYS THE LOUDEST CACKLECAR AT ANY EVENT, THEY MUST BE TIPPIN THE CAN.
Oh yeah, you don't get big flames like that on the cheap.
Nice blast from the past... 💪💪👍👍🏁💯💯 THANKS...
Looks like they’re set up for a pretty short race!
Lol, not even a 60’. Maybe a 6’ haha
Magicar is flat badass!
fuckin hell dude that transition to nitro wakes that motor up
oh man it was INSANE. Felt like a mini earthquake
wouldnt think of it as a earthquake with the nitro fumes and the poppins more of a outta body experience image 2 of them go down the track even todays dragsters nothing like it.i guess these are just more pure
well idk but the ground was shaking and shit was LOUD!
Internal Combustion...ToyHippie is correct. These machines are amazing for their purity, the modern day machines are amazing for their ability to overwhelm. Only a few teams still implement a throttle "whack" into their warm ups. Makes these seem tame by comparison. And that ain't even taking into account two of them leaving the line at full song. It pushes organs around. If you haven't, put a NHRA nat on your bucket list.Thank you again for the video.
Sounds great 👍
awesome dragsters.
Thing of beauty
That sound is just wonderful!
Hell yeah!
The dude is conducting an orchestra and he knows it
The Maestro.
Front engine is cool but the racers don't miss them
they still run them in the Heritage Series, and theyre going 5s @ 260+
Amazing audio!
she is running rich but man it looks good at night!
SEMA ignited- that night is absolutely the best!!!!
All Them "Never See Dirt, Anyway "Faux x Faux" PRETENDERS? PFFT...
I'M ONLY HERE 4 DA NITRO!
Fuck yeah!! This symphony has even a maestro
Run them on the track where they belong .Still brings back good memories
No other sound in the world...!!!
That's waht i call "POP" music. Is that a sriracha bottle he's usin' for a primer????
Those fuel guys were even more insane back then than now, as ludicrous as it's gotten these days. Those things still made, what, 3,000 hp? With no suspension weighing, what, 1300 pounds? With the trans, clutch, and driveshaft between your legs and absolutely ZERO electronics to help them act right and that fuel exhaust blasting directly in your gas-masked face?! I mean, come ON...
Technology and left wing, pussy politics have ruined drag racing as we knew it a long time ago.
Is the red fueler next to Magicar the old Tommy Ivo slingshot?
No...Looks Similar to Ivo's "Barnstormer," But Differs ln Outer Rollbar, Silver v. Gold Lettering & A Few Other Minor Details...
The "Director" could conduct an orchestra!
🤣
Awesome 😎👍
Nitro Meat For the Beast
I’ve seen quite a few of these vids. There is apparently a jug of methanol on the ground then the guy pulls the hose off the intake and it then runs on Nitro. But how is the ally being sucked out of the jug?
the vacuum from the blower spinning maybe? no idea really just my guess
There would be vacuum there but it would seem like there would have to be a little better metering than just a 3/8’s hose in a jug but I dunno.
There is a vacuum in from the blower that sucks the fuel in the line is basically just a pick up tube
egads...idiots...grow some eyeballs that work....the alky bottle is a low pressure hand pumped bug sprayer....that works because they don't use much fuel at idle, even at methanol's 5.5 to 1ish idle mixture, the mix is so powerful you don't much of a cylinder fill to keep the engine ticking over...so not much of a fuel/air charge means not much fuel needed so it's not difficult to supply and the low pressure and small diameter fuel line work fine
Golly a f3ller wants to make a hit
beautiful images, what camera did you use????
Panasonic GH5 with a rode shotgun mic
@@InternalCombustion Thanks, that sucker sure takes EXCEPTIONAL video, even the lights were kept in place without bursting into a crazy dance.
Indeed. I've done a lot of trial and error over the years and found this setup works best. Damn expensive since tho. My camera + lens + gimbal + accessories that I use cost me $3500 😓
@@InternalCombustion WOW, but I guess its, I mean I see its true....you get what you pay for & I watch tons of videos on CZcams in HD & UHD and I realize that you just cannot get the same quality out of a $500 HD cam as what you're gonna get from a prosumer piece of equipment that is dialed in.... Keep up the AWESOME footage , its truly a joy to sit back & just take it in....kinda like catapulting the viewer to wherever you are.👍👍👍👍👍
@@frank-xp6pj yeah exactly, I started filming with a cell phone like most others. Then got a GoPro and a drone and then started getting into the mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses. Cell phones and GoPros can get good footage when the conditions are right, but at night time like this you really need something with a bigger sensor. The external microphone is almost a must as well. It's a fun hobby, but it gets addicting and you find yourself constantly spending money on the latest and greatest gear haha. I've also had to force myself to learn video editing software which is really challenging but also very rewarding. I feel like each video gets a little better than the last. But I really appreciate the kind words from viewers like yourself, it means I'm doing a good job! cheers mate🍻
Considering they have no cooling system , how long can they run that engine ? I would think it all goes by engine temperature.
2-3min. Almost run out of fuel before you'd melt it down given how small the tanks usually are
The shear volume of Fuel is basically the coolant
Kind of confusing that the red starts up while the yellow shuts down.
All the tesla owers still be chargin their's bat trees. 🌳
It looks like a banana in the beginning
I need to be standing in between those 2 cars LIVE... U Tubes great but I want it to rattle my nuts...LIVE..
It sounds agressive

Banana dragster
They should've did it track style, run all at the same time
Build a nitro engine and they shall flee...
A EV will never be as cool … NEVER
Didn't these cars warm up on Gasoline back in the day??
Methanol. They warm it up with methanol, then switch to nitro once fully warm. By the flames alone, that's already nitro burning
X2 on methanol. Probably some guy's did use gasoline but its easy to foul the plugs out so wet with fuel it won't start if you prime with gas. The fuel to air ratio of methanol is a lot closer to nitro than gas is and that automatically is better. Plus you can lean it out with methanol and get some heat in the engine before the switch. Thats somewhat why the idle is smoother and more rpm on methanol in most cases.
Nice! Which country is this?
Las Vegas, Nevada..USA

My neighbor called me alot, and after an hour or so I picked up,,,,,, JERRY?????? ARE YOU WORKING ON YOUR CAR?......

Snoozers...why?
Huh?
camera work buddy number 2 car. wtf.. stop moving it, it's not a BORNE MOVIE..
Its cool to at least see these cars fire up.... but come on, these are RACE cars not side show exhibits. Let em EAT!
Amen to that👍
As much as most of us would love to see it, me included, there's good reason not to. Quite a few cackle cars are the actual original cars which are irreplaceable if damaged. Those old vintage drag parts are insanely expensive if you can even find the stuff. Most of it got used up, what is left is already been bought up. Another big factor is these cars are really not safe or at least up to todays rules and regs. Lot of people got really messed up or killed racing back then. The roll cages and chassis aren't up to it anymore. Lot of cars were built with inferior materials back then because its all they had or didn't have the cash. Some boys even built their chassis's from exhaust tubing. My dad witnessed someone back then if a fueler lockup the rearend which you are sitting with, legs over the axle tubes and your wedding tackle against the back of the axle. That rearend locked up and ripped free from the chassis mounts. The whole axle spun round and beat the driver to death against the bottom of the roll cage. Things known and practiced back then with the technology they had just isn't safe. It would be a shame to hack on these old cars and make them something they never were. There are guys that do build modern incarnations of the old cars to go race which is cool. Theres also vintage only races like Hamb Drags, Meltdown drags, Southeast Gassers, etc where you can time travel back to the 60's and see some cool shit race just like it was back then and with some original old cars. Not usually AA/FD slingshots but sometimes some nitro exhibition stuff. Its worth going!
they don't like modern traction compound coated tracks....they designed were to launch with alot of timing advance, wheels spinning then let the car catch up rather than the modern 5 to 8 rotations to lock in and then bring up the timing....so basically they bog horribly and explode the engine or the rear axle explodes which is bad because the driver sits ON the rear axle....unless the clutch lets go instead which is between the driver's feet
Does anyone else use the ex-girlfriend scent additive?
?
Where is Greta Thunberg Swedish activist and the Biden Democratic government , as they whined and cried about this very thing
Well, this Biden voter is sitting right here, watching the very same video as you are...
P.S. Over half the population of the US lives in the city, and a majority of that number that own and drive their own vehicles, travel distances that are easily covered by modern EV battery capacities. And they can use them to drive to their nearest NHRA track to watch ICE powered race cars, blast up and down the track...the best of both worlds...
But of course, with you fringe lunatics, it is either all or nothing...just like Greta...
CRAPPY camera work!!!
Wtf u talking about?
SO - Can You Do Better? NHRA Drag Racer? (Me!) Who Are The Cars/Drivers/Owners?(l Know!) CHRR (93-11)? Whuz Cacklefest? Dunno, Right? Then SHADDAP!

I disagree. As evidence, I will direct your attention to "drifting."
Must not be for you.
