- Happy New Years Everyone! Here is a video collection of some strange cars that I have seen over the years at the drag strip.
I've been wanting to do a video on these 4 featured cars because I didn't really know much about them at all. The Nash Metropolitan, Almquist Sabre, Crosley, and the Fiat Topolino 500. I really enjoy how people can create something new and exciting about a car that was not really sporty or fast in the stock form. When my son saw the Almquist car he said now that is a real life Matchbox car right there. And he is totally right and I never thought about it that way. Well I hope you enjoy the video and if you want to see more of my Strange Cars Videos click on one the links below.

That Nash is cool!!!
I had actually seen that Nash for a couple of years and filmed a few of his runs but I never looked at it up close. It wasn't until I was walking by it in the staging lanes this last Summer and noticed the gas pedal on the passenger floor. I thought... what the heck, I need to find out what the story is on this one. Turned out to be a really awesome car. Wish I had talent like that to create a vision of a car.
Thank you so much for your coverage of these events. I appreciate the amount of time it must take to do all of the editing. Very entertaining!
You are welcome and I'm glad you enjoy the videos I've been putting out. It is neat to see so many people with the same interest in cars that I have. It makes it so much more enjoyable to get out and see some cool stuff and capture it. Thanks again and I hope you have a great New Year! Tom
All of these are so cool. Especially the Nash. So much attention to detail.
Thanks Tom! LOL, that Almquist looks like an RC car going down track! It’s so tiny!
Yes that Almquist is really an amazing car. I had never heard of one before until this guy put this one together and started racing it. I remember the first time he took it down the track, he went really slow with it. ha ha... I'll bet it is a weird feeling putting something like that together from scratch and trying to trust it won't kill you right away with a big blown V8 in the engine bay. Hope you have a great New Year Dan!
@@tomeighty - same to you Tom. God bless.
This is exactly what they were doin in the 60s, build a race frame and slap a body on it, and you can see the evolution of what would eventually become the 'Funny Cars' class.
If they put body's on them, they did some seriously wild stuff back then. Mad props to the old guys
yes..still best way to do it other than AFX modded types...
Great video as always Tom! I'd have to say the snowmobile was my favorite odd duck at the track!
Thank you, and that is awesome that you liked the snowmobile runs I threw in there. I was debating on putting them in or not but up here in Wisconsin it is kind of "normal" to see a snowmobile go down the 1/4 mile drag strip but I would think that could be kind of unique for the rest of the country to see or hear that snowmobiles are allowed to go down a drag strip. Thanks again for the feedback and I hope you have a great day today! Tom
The Crosley was the first car to have 4 wheel disc brakes.
Some pretty wild cars!
GREAT LAKES DRAG-A-WAY , Union Grove, Wi. My back door !! Awsome.
Amazing craftsmanship and engineering on these cars. 👍
Thank You Tom
You are welcome, thanks for watching! Hope you have a great New Year!
*That little orange dragster is what a dragster looks like when you're a little short on cash.*
That kit car (Sabre) is absoloutely phychotic and I like it!
My dad's first car was a Crosley. He said it was a real bucket.
*FUN FACT: Crosley also manufactured refrigerators. Could be why both car models looked a bit like a fridge.
Happy New Year Tom and nice video. Keep them coming!
Thank you! And Happy New Year to you as well.
The Nash looks OK but the Bantams, Anglias, and Topolinos were snazier. Back in the 1960's I was often at Great Lakes, US 30, Oswego, and Union Grove. "Be there!"
Super Video - Well Done !!!
Love the Panty Dropper!
aww man this makes me really wanna build a nice custom nash wagon gasser with a big block!
I really like the baby blue Topolino. Reminds me of the mid sixties dragster of Tommy Ivo.
Great video loved the run between panty dropper & roach coach quick 👍👍👍
Thank you! And yes I was actually excited to film that match up between cars. I would have loved to see what the Roach Coach could really run if he didn't have a messed up start. Also it seemed like he had to feather the throttle early into the run to keep the front wheels from going up in the air. Awesome cars for sure. Hope you have a great day today John!
Wonderful 👍🥳🎉💃🕺
What a collection. Thanks for the fun Tom. The Nash is really cool. But not like what the "purist" did with the Anglia or Henry J's. The way the performance package is layout I think a WW2 Jeep could fit the frame and look just as crazy. The Sabre was pure ballistic crazy. The Roach Coach makes me wonder what it must be like to drive that animal down the strip! The quad...well what can one say but that "butt crack" got away quickly. The Turquois snow mobile...I'm done.
Gotta love the Nash Metropolitan with a HEMI
Thanks!!!
Congratulations on an epic drag video! you are an excellent narrator as well.
Good video Tomeighto
Thank you, hope you have a great New Year!
I love speed but for me I like the og bodies of the cars better. Interesting video 👍
I had a 1960 American Motors Metropolitan convertible that ran an 18.8 at York US 30. Had a Sun tack mounted on the dash I bought from Bob Carroll at Custom Auto Parts in Marrietta, Pa. He ran the Fiat Bug comp coupe that usually was the night's top eliminator. Search for this 1963 competitor to see another blue Tipliino.
That Metro needs some more pony’s!
Happy New Years!!!! 🎉 🎊
Thank you!
@@tomeighty 👍👍
"Beep-beep, beep-beep. His horn went beep-beep-beep."
Anybody ? . . . ✌️😎
Have you not noticed that you can put any...and I mean any kind of vehicle on a drag car frame? I'm still waiting for someone to go down the strip in an old AMC Matador.
Usually those gocarts would have a hyabusa in them but I swear its sporting a Honda CBX 6 cylinder.
@4:16 Check out the '54 Chevy that's running 9.0 quarters. Maybe it's a '53.
The Nash and the Diesel Pickup at the end are the best
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback on which cars you liked. I sometimes wonder is it just me that finds them weird or unique or would a lot of other people feel the same way. Thanks again and hope you have a great day! Tom
@@tomeighty Happy 2024 too
0:47 That is a tiny jeep
4:48 Frigerator on wheels lol 😆
theres always been this urge to make a street snowmobile
How in the world could they forget the Anglia? So many back in the day.
The headers on the Nash metropolitan should have came out of the original front wheel wells. Other than that the car was awesome.
I kind of thought the same thing... but I'll bet there is a good reason for it the way it is.
Crosley also made a pick up truck
My Dad had a Nash Metropolitan in the 60s, we live in England. The one at the beginning here is coo laf but imagine the headers placed to come out and up from the front wheel arch 😎, not a critism 👍
It won't have the nostalgic look of a roots blower which is cool but your potential is limited eventually your just making turbulent hot air, get turbos and go fast, if you put a big snail and make 1000-1300hp or so you could dipping one of those death traps into the 6s, I know that's not the goal of these cars but wouldn't ya wanna see if you can make it really fast.... You can always put it back to old school look or maybe switch the old roots up to a modern screw type blower still have the look but a way more efficient set up.
Crossley did manufacture refrigerators.
Is that a air horn hemi?
It was an Austin 7. With a nash body.
Men will race everything :D
Uhhh, some things don't mix well, like milk and 'orange' juice, know what I mean...😅😅😅
Why that nash got an overbite
Why put a parachute on a high 12 second car?
🥳🥳🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🥳🥳
I luv how absolutely absurdly stupid it is.
Pity you couldn't give anybody credit for their work by naming the builders . Something a bit more respectful than "this guy"
🙄
Some people just have to complain about everything.
Why are you hating? Lol calm down karen
