My parents took me with them once just over 50 years ago. We stayed at the Aladdin, and went to many hotels on the strip. It was simply amazing. Men in suits a ties and women in beautiful dresses just to go to the casino floor. Everyone dressed to the nines…There was an air of sophistication that is sadly lost.
I was so lucky to have lived then... even as a kid you knew of these early people i loved this ... couldnt play but could just see this was great!! oh ate at the silver slipper buffet for 99 cents !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Beatles never appeared at what was then the new 'Convention Center...they appeared at the lounge showroom at the 'Sahara Hotel & Casino' for 2-nights only and never came back to Las Vegas after that one-time only in '64
First time visited with my mom in 1974. We never daw slot machines. Walking on the strip with all those neon signs was a sight to see. Loved the "old vegas". Been back a few times and all the casinos look the same. No interest in any future visits
Those were the days! My first trip was in 1980, last trip was in 2001. in the 80's, all 5 of the Howard Hughes hotel properties were still operating. There was still something mystic and a certain decorum about Las Vegas. The casinos made their money mostly on gambling. I never felt ripped off as for entertainment, food or transportation. I remember many times going to an early show, then hopping a cab to another hotel and getting in line for the late show. I saw more big name entertainers than I can remember. Even the biggest names weren't out of anyone's price range.
