I witnessed the implosion of the tower in 1996. Just before it closed for good prior to that, I went there to grab a sands playing chip... plus pens and other souvenirs which I still have for old times sake.
Sadly the only thing I have is a deck of cards that were used in the casino. Well.. not “sadly” since it’s actually very awesome, just sad it’s the only thing
I worked at the Sands in the eighties and nineties as a slot supervisor. It was a great experience!
Still have my Sands Coffee mug from the Super Bowl weekend 1995 in Las Vegas Me and a friend on a roadtrip for two month visiting the southern states.
The best memorys, and still friends.
Hi from Berlin Germoney
As a Vegas lover and traveler through time I can tell you that the Sands was replaced by the Venetian several years after it was demolished. In the year 2049 the Venetian is demolished to make way for the expansion of the Casino Royal Mega Resort...their major draw being $10 Michelobs.
I stayed there when it was still standing back in the day.
@@drunkenmolesterpaul3569 In other words you stayed at the Venetian hotel. Is that what you're saying or are you being a effing troll ?
@@sonsofthunder915 I was just joking, because obviously you didn’t stay there after it was torn down. I wish I would’ve stayed there, or any of the old casinos that are gone now.
@@drunkenmolesterpaul3569 Duh, of course I didn't stay there AFTER it was demolished. I was a guest at the Sands in 1968.
I stayed here back on November 1952, March 1956, June 1959, May 1961, January 1964, April 1969, July 1972, February 1976, September 1979, November 1982, July 1986, and my last one was May 1992 3 years before closing in 1995 to make room for Venetian
Back when Las Vegas was for adults only and no excuses for not having any entertainment for kiddies.
They have amusement parks for kids, Las Vegas was for adults only. What wonderful times back then. Men wore suits and women wore cocktail dresses and gowns to the headliner shows.
Now slobs go to Vegas dressed like I do when I go to Home Depot or a fast food joint.
No wonder why the Venetian kept the name for their company name and the convention center. Or maybe sands just evolved to be The Venetian?
small but retained class.
I loved the Sands which was my number one along with #1 Pit Boss George "Blackie" Dardeen..
Wow,beautiful.
The Sands was imploded on November 26, 1996 to make way for the Venetian resort and casino.
Rip sands
Shame it gone
Did The Pioneer Sign Move????
where can i get the full version?
I have the videotape, let me get paid this coming week so I can get a vcr and the usb transfer thing, the one I had isn't supported under win10. Should upload it in a week or so. It's not terribly exciting and I honestly felt kind of sorry for the hotel watching the full thing. Seemed so dated and edgeworn, but I still would have stayed there because of the song! Sometimes I have it stuck in my head all day
@@fujifrontier that would be amazing if you uploaded the full version. I just released my video about the hotel (LaBreeceTV) but that would just be so incredible to see actual footage of the resort. Can't wait.
@@fujifrontier i also wouldn't mind seeing the full lenth version if you get a chance
@@brycewilson1909 I've been trying to find a stereo 4head vcr that's not idiotically priced... They're all going for like 100
Why did it fail?
Tloc103 see the Mirage looming over it in the background at the end? All these tiny old casinos could not compete with the new exciting megaresorts being built. Some of the old rat pack era casinos survived, but most became obsolete in the eyes of the customers that patronize hotel/casinos. A good example of a hotel that changed with the times is Caesars Palace. Caesars is over 50 years old but has updated their property many many times over the years to compete with the newer hotels
Like many other hotels and casinos of it's era, the Sands had become obsolete by the early 1990s and could no longer compete with the newer themed mega-resorts that were being built along the Strip. The reason the Flamingo and Caesars Palace have remained competitive over the years was because they expanded and kept up with the times, things that the Sands failed to do.
Didnt Mr Frank Sinatra performed their?
Before Steve Wynn turned Vegas in to Yuppieville. SMH...
Rat Pack?????
Ha terrible video
Back when casinos used to beg people to come back and give you a free nights stay. Now they give you a 50% off at the buffet.
Station and Boyd still do "Free Stays", except it does not include the Resort Fee, so it's more like "50% off your stay!".
