  • This is the first in a series on basic Doma Vaquera. I will start to explain the basic principles of the riding itself. Which excercises are performed in Doma Vaquera and how do you and your horse get there. I will follow it up with videos on the theory behind the riding that you can use as a reference.
    For those of you that want to know more about me and what I do please visit my website at:

      Pelimanni Kari Kallonen Sorry for the late response. That’s great to hear! I gave a garrocha clinic yesterday and some Western riders joined. They use the garrocha for their freestyle 😁

    So glad I discovered you!!! I am definitely going to do Doma Vaquero with my new Andalusian Gelding. We have been doing Spanish Riding Scholl classic riding, but this is the real deal! Thanks so much!!!! We had great success so far with similar training. And the horses loved it!

      @@ISOLDAIII Hannover Germany. Our teachers were all Richard Hinrichs students and my first teacher was Christina Hinrichs, Richard's first Wife. She started our (difficult) pony with a Serreta and plenty of leg yields, "arret"s and use of shifting weight vs reins. Front up, hind quarters carrying the motion. I never got the hang of "Anlehnung" as this Spanish technique worked great for everything, esp. advanced work. Not so great for low level tournaments, but our pony could be as light in the front as an "S" horse and could have done more Hohe Schule, but the kids preferred jumping and having fun. He is 37 now, and I rode him up until a year ago. No back or leg problems ever. Our "Vielseitigkeit" Trakehner was also trained by these teachers. Also good results. Now I have a new Andalusian (7 1/2 years old). Luckily a stall mate has a Spanish horse she is training in Doma Vaquera. Having gotten to know my new horse better, I definitely think this style is his thing. Also the safety factor, that I have to use much more horsemanship than I would have bothered with in "normal" dressage. So much in equestrian sport these days really doesn't make sense, is dangerous, and ruins horses instead of bringing out their best. I'm looking forward to all your videos!!!! Are you in Holland? That isn't far! :-)

      @@bwci33 That's not so far indeed! I'm in Hilversum in the middle of Holland. How cool that your pony is old and still so healthy! Hinrich's method is probably very similar. Classical. Doma Vaquera is one of the first forms of dressage. That's great you have a PRE. It isn't necessary to have a PRE to do Doma Vaquera. In Spain they use the crosses with Thoroughbreds or Arabians more for Doma Vaquera but PRE are suitable as well. Especially the ones that like to work like my older mare :). I'm not a fan of normal dressage as I don't feel it makes sense. Doma Vaquera is very inuitive for both horse and rider. There were no courses or books or videos so it had to be. Let me know if you ever have questions. I hope to visit my new mare in Spain soon and will post more videos. Enjoy!

    I am so excited I found your channel! I love both dressage and reining and was wondering if there was a way to combine them and then I stumbled upon your channel. Mindful Madnezz So happy that my channel can help you. I don’t know of anyone on the East Coast. I work with Chris from Artisantack.com. He’s from Spain but lives in the US and sells proper Spanish. He also knows a lot of people. Perhaps you can send him a note through his website and ask if he knows anyone. My new horse is in Spain at the moment but I when she is here in the Spring I will make some more videos. In the mean let me know if you have any questions. Also check out my website www.centaurodomavaquera.com and Facebook because I post my adventures in Spain as well. I’m going in two weeks again.

      @@ISOLDAIII I'd like to know the types of spurs used by the Doma Vaqueras from young horses up into fully schooled. I'm sure its dictated by the uniqueness of each horse but just the types you see typically.

    • @ISOLDAIII
      @ISOLDAIII  Před 3 lety

      @@nrhoofcare7724 Awesome from Oz! Love Australians. But to answer your question, our spurs are not much different from other spurs but are probably more similar to Western spurs. We wear them low on the heel of our boot. This has to do with the position of the leg on the horse with the Doma Vaquera saddle. Our leg is generally higher on the horse due to the fact that the saddle sits you higher on the horse. The seat is not close to the horse like an English or Western saddle. But there are wheels and studs.They are used depending on the horse. If the horse is less responsive you wear spurs but if they are sensitive to your leg already you don't use any. Or you use them in the beginning when doing the basics and later when the more difficult work starts like canter pirouette where you need more impulsion you might switch to using spurs for that last bit. It's my opinion and that of my trainer that a horse should be able to do everything without. Especially the basic work. If you need spurs to make your horse correctly walk, trot and canter around the ring I think there might be something wrong in the basic understanding of the aids. Let me know if you have any further questions. I'm happy to help!
