    I gravitated to copywriting once I was properly exposed to it. Content writing often left me apathetic, and for a long time didn't know why. I never could care enough about journalism to pursue it. But copywriting feels more focused, and the psychology involved stimulates me. In fact, I don't even have to worry about not "feeling it" on a given day because copywriting books helped me step far enough outside myself that I stay in the target audience's mindset. Copy also makes more room for creativity.

    This video originally motivated me to switch to calling myself a copywriter. But my thing is, why choose a side? Why cant you aspire to be both? Many times I find myself naturally wanting things to connect and refer to other resources and cause people to take action.But even before I knew copy existed I decided that writing was what I wanted to do from the beginning. I think theres more to gain calling yourself a copywriter over content writer but I truly believe you can be both. But I’m interested in all the other ways you can creatively put out words to get people to build loyalty to a brand or business thats what really pulled me in further to establish myself in the copywriting industry. But I know that I can be both.

      @@SarahTurnerAgency yes. Right I don't call myself a content writer actually. But I'm open to that kind of work as well. I have a few samples on my LinkedIn right now and I'm sort of assuming it could be considered content. So I realized putting another sample I can make into copy is gonna be helpful to me since I am a copywriter. I was just noticing the fact that its fairly natural for me to write in the realm of content not copy always. But both are enjoyable for me.

    This is really useful - thank you! One part - you could’ve skipped is that race-referring phrase - it does not matter whether the old dudes are white - no person should be singled out on the basis of their race or ethnicity (i know you may have just wanted to make The Elect (the ultra left religious inquisition; see John McWhorter for more info) happy, but any person who actually uses reason will agree. Justice should be just and rational - to all, regardless of their attributes (sorry for going too deep and philosophical here). Your actual content is wonderful though :)

    • @SarahTurnerAgency
      @SarahTurnerAgency  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks so much for sharing your feedback. The reference to old white dudes was just to make the point that copywriting used to be done by a small group of people that didn't necessarily represent everyone as a whole. But nowadays, there are copywriters from so many different backgrounds. And that's really great because copywriting is all about understanding your audience so you know how to help them. Having more variety in the world of copywriters means that audiences are being reached by people that really understand where they're coming from.

    • @SarahTurnerAgency
      @SarahTurnerAgency  Před 3 lety +2

      As a freelance copywriter, you will build a portfolio, a website, and then send out cold emails to potential clients. All of these will show off the quality of your writing and your clients will see the value in it. As you write for clients, you can gather data like open rates and conversion rates to back up your work. As you have those numbers available, you can show them to future clients to prove that your writing is valuable. When you're first starting out, you won't have those numbers yet, so clients will make their decision based on your website and portfolio.

    I've been doing affiliate marketing for years by writing product reviews for my own website. I'm not sure if this CAN be a pre-cursor to copywriting, because I've always thought of myself as MORE of a content writer. As far as FEAR goes, I would be afraid that my "copy" would not generate the desired response that the client needs, and if that were to happen over and over....there goes the career.
    The concept of getting inside the customers head -- to know them intimately -- in order to to get them to "act", makes me wonder HOW you do that? PLUS.... I'm not the "spring chicken" I used to be! Can this be volatile for someone climbing the "age" ladder????

      @SarahTurnerAgency  Před 3 lety +1

      Your marketing experience will definitely give you an edge. And no copywriter can guarantee specific results. Usually, you just have to try stuff and see how it goes. You can stick with the things that work, and change up what's not working. Any season of life can be a good time to learn a new skill and start a writing career. When you learn how to write copy, part of that is learning emotional techniques. There's not as much guesswork as you may think. There are tried and true ways to grab your audience's attention and motivate them to act. If I could learn to do it, so can you. If a course teaches you a skill that leads to a six-figure income - for a fraction of the cost of a college degree- that's actually great marketing. And the people earning 6 figures are happy they made an investment in themselves.

    Copy: The main purpose is purchase,sales,visibility and action
    Content : It's basically informative.
    I am watching 6th video and everyone has different definition of copywriting and content writing.
    Ugggg more videos more confusion.😂😂

      It sounds like you really understand the difference to me. It's easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of information out there. I try to keep my videos straightforward and to the point to help you grow as a writer and reach your goals.

    How do you turn content into copy if you don't have a product?
    Ugh...content writers are just word vomiters? That's encouraging...in other words content writers are useless?
    All my content has a purpose, just not sales.

      Content is usually informative which means its not useless... its just different from copy.
      I'm not quite sure how to answer your first question, you would need a product or service to write about to get someone to act.

    Wasn't very helpful at all. Only shed light on copywriting and didn't give an accurate comparison of the two. Barely even mentioned content writing and what it really means. As looking for resources to get into the writing field, I didn't find this video very accurate.

      Hi Emily! This video isn't meant to give you resources about getting into the writing field. It's just to discuss content vs. copywriting. And yes, I'm definitely going to focus on copywriting because I''m a copywriter 🥰 and think it's a better fit for many. Also, there's nothing inaccurate. People love to overcomplicate things in the world of copywriting, I try to keep it simple.
