Camping Creekside | Pour-Over Coffee in the Woods | Buds'n Suds

- This weeks episode of Small Plots brings me and a couple of buddies to the heart of the forest, where we camp along a picturesque wooded creek. I make pour-over coffee, drink some suds, and enjoy some coal-cooked cheddar jalapeno weens. There's also a dog featured in this episode, so that's nice.
Gear featured includes the Kammok Kuhli UL tarp, Thermarest Parsec sleeping bag, Thermarest Neoair sleeping pad, and the 25L Dayruck Hidden Woodsman pack. The foldable coffee drip device is the "Snow Peak Men's Folding Coffee Drip" found on Amazon. I'm not sure why this is specifically for men, but ladies, you better avoid this dubious device; who KNOWS what could happen!
Filmed in 4K using a GoPro Hero 8 Black in the Southern Tier of New York.

I don’t think that’s bamboo, I believe it’s horsetail. I could totally be wrong 🤷🏻♀️
This answered so many questions haha. Thanks! It's totally horsetail.
Wildfoodsandmedicine.com had this info. "Horsetail has two spring offerings: the tan-colored fertile shoots that appear early in the season are edible. Later, the green stalks of horsetail appear as a separate plant. These can be used as medicine, but are not eaten. Young fertile shoots are considered a delicacy among many Coast Salish People." There are alot of the in my area of WA. Fun stuff.
Can confirm that those are horsetail plants. Very cool though!
It's horsetail. Bamboo however grows all over the world. When I read that, and realized I hadn't ever noticed it in even though i spend lots of time in the woods, I looked for it next time and found it everywhere in the woods of Oklahoma!
You have to love that dudes tarp attempt....with the not-so-camouflage design and hand print! LMAO!!! 🤣
Bro was like "is that chill?" 😂 looking for approval
Great job on CZcams all video and amazing 4K video
Once again, thank you for making me laugh 😂
Another hilarious video. I’m having fun watching your videos and I hope you’re enjoying yourself and having fun. I can’t wait to see your next video. C u soon john Sheffield England
Thanks, John!
I used to stealth camp up there in Roc, and this place reminds me of Mendon Ponds, or Powder Mills.....spent quite a few nights in both....keep it up man!!!!
I am a new sub. I love your vids, humor n history.
Thank you!
Loved this one! Great video!
I little tip for hammock camping, I'm still new to it myself. But if you turn your rain fly or tarp and put the corners along your ridge line, you get better coverage in rainy conditions.
I've definitely done that before, but this particular tarp doesn't work as well that way.
@@smallplots I noticed in another video that tarp is made for hammocks so you are for sure using it right. My bad brother. Take care man.
so positive )))
Maybe its bigfoot imitating fox pups?? Lol!
Beautiful place for a camp
Good video. Looks like a nice place to camp
Yes! Another small plots! Let's goooo
🍌🍌🍌
Oooooooo that Solid Snake bit got me good. Great video dude!
Ha! "I'm not a falling down kind of person". I can definitely relate. Looks like a blast bud. Keep these videos coming, you're doing awesome.
Haha thanks man!
Really nice stuff! Your buddy "MrGritty17" (as I know him) sent me over from Reddit after he checked out my channel, and I'm glad he did. Definitely my best discovery in a long time. Keep it up.
Hey, thanks so much man, I appreciate it! I'll have to go over later today and check out some of your vids, can't wait!
@@smallplots don't get too excited, I'm no professional. But thanks in advance. I'll be devouring your catalog today. I'm always looking for good stuff to drink to in my videos, and you're on the list.
congrabulators on 1k subs,,,,,,niiiiice
Thanks, RJ!
@@smallplots heyhey Brohamn...hopin' yer okay after Ida
@@RJDCR thanks RJ! I'm completely unaffected by Ida. NYC is unfortunately having problems, but Im about 7 hours northwest so I'm ok
@@smallplots heyhey , good to hear....I have the feelin its gonna rain pretty good here @ the Redwoods this year.....Rock onnn Kevin
“Will the real Tom Green.... (Kevin) please stand! 👏👏👏
Nice video👍🏻
Great spot to camp. When you first started going down hill, the trail totally looked like a heavy equipment made road. I wonder what was there at one time. Thanks for the adventure 👍👍 Take Care 😃
Thanks, Jim! Yeah, that whole forest is like that. It has about 1000 or more years of recorded human activity ranging from Native Americans, to a Shaker settlement, to an epileptic colony, and today, a Prison sits adjacent (future stealth camp next to a prison maybe?). It was also a major shipping route at one time, with the Pennsylvania railroad and Genesee Valley Canal both running through it (in a different area from where we camped). One of my favorite forests in my general area, will definitely be returning to different areas for future videos.
@@smallplots wow, awesome history,so cool!
KEVIN that stream is big ....do something for future there...bring in small/baby trouts alll varietys...wow in short time pl will be jumping/ a beautiful backcountry touch
Not being able to see all the way upstream is why I filter. But, that’s why the Beverage Center is so important!
Here i am again catching up on things i have missed. New guy catching up.. But i got time.
Thats awesome, fatz! rock on!
Horsetail reed, Equisetum arvense, full of silica, very interesting plant actually a living fossil, likes stream-side growing conditions
French presses make superior coffee in my opinion. They actually make camping one that don't break. I have a stainless steel one.
I prefer pour-over, and it packs down waay smaller
Kool show like when you invite your friends. That garlic can u eat it ?
You can! It's leaf-only though, no bulb
Great video👍 What kind of dog is she? She just looks like a awesome camping dog!! 🐶
Haha Thanks, Minzy! She's made for those woods. A very natural fit
Buddy james has drank his share of jd 😄
Sell the rock Kevin 🤘
I'm rich!
That’s really a very pretty area. Black flies sound awful.
They're the worst!
I love you even
more old no 7
Sir, I hate to bother you, but do you know of any *larger* plots? I just need something a little larger. Like, just a larger...plot.
Sorrah suh, ahll atta lahg plahts, onlah smahll phlots heah, boyah
it will be horsetail, a bog plant, not bamboo 😊
Thanks, botany! I figured this out later on. Such a weird-looking plant.
Tryon Park?
Sweet spot!! What's the forest?
I don't wanna give out toooo much public info, these woods are already kinda trashed up in areas, but it's a state forest about an hour south of Rochester 😉
@@smallplots it looks like someplace I'm familiar with but can't picture the terrain. Time to explore some more!
Hi Kevin
Hello, Terrence
Wondering what those hash marks on your kuksa represent? Small plots episodes? Viewer count? Scalps? 🤔
Haha it's actually a really stupid way to mark that it's 12 ounces. It doesn't even make sense; who counts ounces with tally marks? Good kuksa, though
what's worse the mustache or the eyebrow piercing
Nothing compares to my Jacob's Ladder piercing
