- On todays episode of Small Plots, I return to where it all started- my first ever stealth camping location! Will some guy in a green shirt see me, another guy in a green shirt? I dunno, maybe, you're just going to have to watch.
#stealthcamping #rochesterny #soloovernight #urbancamping
I've been waiting to find another entertaining camping channel since "Camping With Steve,"when lo and behold, you show up on the homepage. Greetings from Maryland
Thanks Alex, welcome!
Dude, that piece of tarp you are looking at is the seam tape. That’s what makes it waterproof by taking 2 individual pieces , sewing them together and then taping the seam to make 1 whole tarp. You need to buy seam
Sealer and more seam tape. Watch videos on seam sealing so you are soaked when you no longer have a waterproof tarp.
Hahaha really with the zombies LMAO!!! Dude that was such a great small plot. Glad I could make a cameo haha! We gotta firm up plans at some point soon.
Haha thanks man! And yes we totally do. I gotta get in better shape for it, too 😅
Enjoying your videos 👍 I look forward to Tuesday’s 👍👍
Small Plots is almost like an olde-time radio show with Kevin's commentary and narration. I can do other stuff and listen to it, but it's still entertaining.
Love what you do man. Glad I found your channel!
Another great ''Small Plots' vid 👍. Keep them coming, Kevin. Love your vlog😉
New sub from Oklahoma. You crack me up bro! Love the channel. Keep it up!
Thank you for always making me laugh 😂 I really really appreciate it. My days are better when I watch your videos.
Im glad you enjoy Small Plots, Jennifer! 😁
I love your humor lol idk why but I think you're funny as hell
Good stuff Kevin! I enjoyed this very much! Keep it up bro. Greetings from southeastern NC.
Thanks curt!
Another awesome video! Always look forward to watching your adventures!
Thanks Dick! For some reason this comment got flagged, so I'm just seeing it now. Weird
Lol. No problem. Maybe it's my name. 🤣🤣🤣
Kevin my friend. Love your video's man. I appreciate a man like you and what you do. One thing I want to point out is " it's easier if you dress up like the area or environment that you stealth camp in". It conceals your presence better so no one will see or find you sir. I'm talking about camouflage and not military but hunting camouflage. Get you some "REAL TREE" as it blends in with your surroundings and you won't get caught". When I camp in secret, I do that because I hate uninvited and unwanted company.
Thanks for the advice!
Hey Kevin,I’m a new subscriber from NC. I love your channel. Your style of “no frills”camping I believe is awesome! I consider your tuna, lighter, and good sleeping bag pretty much all you need. You’ve inspired me to go camping again.👍Thanks can’t wait till your next video.
Thanks sandy! I like to keep it simple
Awesome video! Like the production and how the channel has grown since that first video.
Like Joe’s Place commented, strip is seam sealer. You can repair it by mixing silicone with mineral spirits. Just mix to the right consistency and then brush on.
Thanks hobo!
Hey Kevin, awesome video as always. Thank you 😊 for sharing. I wanted to make sure someone has told you about your tarp and I see they have so that's awesome.
I hope you were able to get it fixed that sucks that you had to refix something that costs a small fortune ugh 😑 but that's life for ya 😆 🤣
KEEP ADVENTURING
GOD BLESS YOU
Oh hey, maybe get a wee bit darker of a tarp next time you have to purchase one lol 😆 😜 say brown would work great. 😉 🤗HUGS🤗
Great video. That sound on the freeway are rumble strips. Your first spot looks good. Be safe.
"People going to school, people going to work and...... I'm going camping" God bless you kevin! The road less travelled! A genius nay a guru for our troubled times! Love it!!
😁
Lovely video kevin thank you for sharing it with us 😉
Thanks for watchin joey!
Great content. Your reenactment of the fluorescent shirt guy 🤣
He was so startled
I love your videos. I'm from Brooklyn, NY and visited my friend who moved to Rochester in November. Lovely city. Very different life from NYC. Lots of nature. The drive was a killer though
I believe you may be starting a huge new tuna creations camping trend. Love the fire. Thanks for the vid sir.
Great video. Very peacefull
You are never alone.
Those damn birds never listen. Keep on making Tuesday great again brother!
Thanks, Mud!
Great video, thanks 👍
That’s seam tape, you’d be in bad shape if you got rained on with it coming off like that. Most stores that sell camping gear will have new seam tape. You just have to get the old off including the adhesive left behind if there is any, iron on the new with a towel between the iron and the tarp and you’re good to go!
Thanks, brett!
i'm here!
Retired teacher/ dad comment. CANADA geese!!! Great one again!!
Haha thanks, pete!
I hate getting caught too , happy stealthin man 👍
ITs a taped seam. its there to help waterproof your rain fly. Enjoyed your video. Keep doing what your doing. I am now a new subscriber.
Love your videos keep them coming
Thanks Oscar!
Great video Kevin. It would have been a proper anniversary if the same fluorescent clad guy jogged through your camp again 😂
😄
Ahahahaha! Woodpeckers pecking metal! I know I should feel bad but that was funny. Probably a mating dance. I hope neither of them bashed their beaks up too hard on the metal.
Great video
You have to cook those tortillas some. Just toss it on the coals and let it cook a bit and wallah great tasting tortilla it doesn't break just add tuna creations. Love the channel Small Plots with Kevin, I'm Kevin
Another great installment.
Thanks mcdieeez!
That ipa can definitely had mouse poop on it. I saw the mouse in the background on a log. Amazing stuff!
Adds to the nutty flavor
way back in the 1980S me and my buds camped in Cobbs Hill Park.Right Behind The Reservoir.A Lot diff. back in the 80s.
Very soothing video. Love it watching in bed. I love tuna creations. Sriracha is my favorite on crackers.
Thanks Linda! I'll have to try the Sriracha kind
Cool about the knots lol. We do the same thing when we camp. 👍
It's the champion's way
Having a campfire means you can eat wonderful food! Take that packaged tuna, toss into a cast iron skillet, heat up, then warm the tortilla. A wonderful hot, grilled meal!
Frozen toes walking home.sooo many memories.
Hi Kevin, Deer hunter’s mark off the trees, to lead themselves into their deer blinds, early in the morning. I, myself would tie off blaze orange ribbons, to branches, then untie them when I was finished hunting. Can’t wait to see You and, Sam Banana. I’m in St. Charles, Illinois. A lot of places around by me. I’m around SQWIB’s age.
Thanks Mark, that's really useful information!
I like your simple meals. Sometimes less is more.
Hi my friend small pols nice see yu camping again amazing to see 👀 yu here a cool budlight beer 🍻 i will
i got out and explored a brand new route on my bike yesterday, mostly inspired by your videos, feels great! 😀
i usually don't feel safe out in heavily wooded areas alone, when i was a kid i was a sprinter, could zip away from danger, but these dayss not so much! haha 😂
but local authorities built a new set of trails up and down the hills here to a river valley, so i plucked up the courage to try them out, more or less had the place to myself middle of the day on a Sunday which was perfect! (the very long hard steep climb back home, probably puts most off)
Hey that's awesome! Good to get out there

Pro tip for stealthy beer can cracking: One hand to crack it as normal, but put the thumb of the other hand over the opening because it muffles the sound significantly. Other than that, you could always just get a 40 and unscrew the top of the beer. That lets you easily cap it and hide it if someone comes.
I'm surprised students looked at you weird since, when I went to college, lots of people were sleeping right in the parking lot.
Those painful faux Wellington boots were made for… strutting the catwalk, Kevin. You're stylish in outfit and impeccable in presentation. Luv the back to the present vid, man ;-{)🖖
Haha thanks bagarius 😎
Dam Kevin, I was hoping you would power through some STICKERS!.
I'll take the thorn bushes over the swamp.
You sure the jogger at sundown wasn't running from the "hash slinging slasher".
You can fix that tape seam. with Seam Seal.
Canada geese remember,😂.
Yep... Completely invisible, master of Stealth.
Thanks Kevin, love spending my evening with you.
Thanks man! I hate those damn thorns, so annoying and everywhere haha
Keep it up Kevin 👌
Thanks, butt!
Add the tuna into the skillet for a minute, then pull it out. Put the tortilla in the skillet, add the tuna, and you've got yourself a wonderful wrap!
i like to watch your videos after i've drank a beer or two 😄🍺
I'll take it!
@@smallplots oops, sorry, lol i was trying to give you a compliment haha i just meant.........i enjoy the videos .........but they are *Extra* fun when i'm less than sober haha 😂
Hello Kevin . Can't believe it been s yr already . Sweet job on this episode. Those things on the Expressway that make that sound when you drive over them are called Rumble Strips . One more thing but I had to re Subscribe and do the bell thingy again and not sure why . See ya next week . Take care .
Thanks, sleep! Thats weird, i know YT has weird issues like that sometimes
@@smallplots All good Smalls . I know where you live . Kinda
Citra dreams is crazy I wanna see it more often
I Miss Rochester a Little Bit!! grew up on alexander st. near east ave. and university st.
Hey Small Plots. Great video, and fun to watch. Um..... the sounds made when cars change lanes on highways are from the tires running over reflectors called "delinear buttons," and I don't know why I know that (?).
Hello Kevin, I just started my channel about camping. I found camping with Sam bananas and he mentioned you with his call about ALLEGHENY national forest and I’m here. Subscribed…
Yes it is seam tape to keep it from leaking at the seam you can buy new and redo it. What you were talking about the sound on the road they are called rumble strips it let you know you are out of your lane.
You can get seam sealer and repair that seam ,even if you only do a few feet at a time , might take a couple days , use a small hobby craft paint brush and weigh it down with some books or 2+4
You are not alone
I wish my 49yr.old.memory was better!! LMAO
Thing that's coming off looks like the seam tape they put it on to waterproof the seams.
Just like Spokane. Nice day but huge piles of snow around. Lol
Haha yeah it snowed for like 3 full days before this, then one day of 50 and it's all gone
Dewey Ave. Smoke Shop!! iS IT STILL THERE? was a place i visited often.also went to roller skate inside rink on friday nights.we were 12 through 14 was soo much fun.
Yup it's still around
“Rumble strips” on the highway. Guy I know retired from Florida DOT used that term.
Same with the ash trees in Michigan.
Hunker down Kevin good job
Thanks for the video! That strip is a seam sealer thing isn't it? I'd glue it or silicone it back on or something if it were mine, I'm betting it keeps the thing from leaking water through the stitches. The real question though is.. what kind of pants are those?
Haha RVRC pants, they're great
Dogman stalking 🤐
Would luv to see old class mates.
The grooves in the highway are called "rumble strips."
That is the water proof strip that is supposed to be attached firmly to ensure no water gets through the seam
Kevin, I am stealth camping this spring and going to buy a Thermacel. What type do you recommend. I am a few times a year stealth camper.
No recommendations really, just go for lightweight with a high R value. Sometimes the good ones can get near $200
In case no one else has mentioned this yet, that is a taped seam. If it comes off it will leak through stitching. Buy some seam sealant and paint it on and thatbwill save your taro
i love ur videos
29:42 small plops with kevin! 😂😊💩
💩
@@smallplots hehehehe 😄😄😄
You have to paint it camo bro. I spray paint my tarps, tents, chairs, etc. camo. Very easy and cheap. Lets you blend in.
I'd rather be caught 😅
Tortillas also do better as far as not breaking, first, if they are pretty fresh, but second, if they are toasted a little bit over the fire. If you have an old tortilla and there's nothing you can do, which is true through much of the US for those who don't live close enough to Mexico like I do, you can always get the older tortilla a little wet and then toast it. They are much less likely to break that way. I have found that Costco, at least in California, does sell uncooked tortillas in the freezer section and all you have to do is throw them on a frying pan just as they are. You can put oil or butter if you want, but it's not necessary. Those are about the best damn tortillas I've ever eaten short of eating some from an actual tortilla factory but their process it the same.
😂 I don't think 100% of tortillas come from mexico, mine are pretty fresh when i buy them
@@smallplots Definitely not. Hell, my mom has made them before and she's a gringo like I am. We did grow and process our own tortilla corn though. I just know that if they toasted a little, they don't tend to break but, if they're old, they still struggle to hold the food even when you do toast them. I eat a lot of these things, particularly the corn ones that are much more likely to break on you. Love your videos, man!
Wow. I left the city years ago and it's nice to see they waste millions of dollars redoing the bike path on Exchange Street and all they did was cut down all the lovely trees.
Dude they did a metric ton more than just chop trees down. It's a whole new riverside park with better amenities and boat access, an enormous improvement.
I think that stuff is waterproofing for the seam. I’ve seen videos talking about shitty tents without that stuff and they leak like shit. No bueno
Yeah thats what i thought. Good thing i have the lifetime warranty!
You and Sam Bananas should set up a play date to play in that shelter!
i miss cobbs hill reminds me of my youth.
huge hill.. thats where we sleeded when we were kids.
Looks like seam tape, assuming there is a seam there. You can buy seam tape, and easily retape it.
35:48 🤣🤣🤣
Oooooohh Shit! That’s a Sasquatch shelter🤣
That must hav been a junival Bigfoot. An adult would have at least hid his beer cans
Haha oh my god! Discovery of the century
First.
You killed that runner last year and stole his shirt didn't ya Kevin 😆
What! No! No way!
The seam tape is failing. Coat the seams with silicone thinned with mineral spirits. There are YT how to videos. Enjoyed the video as always.
Oh cool thanks joe!
u are near Monroe ave.and culver st. thats where cobbs hill starts
Haha nope
@@smallplots would like to meet u some time,im 49 its been 25 or so yrs.id love to see my old neighborhood.
That strip looks like seam tape which was probably put there to hold the stitch until it was completed or sealed. It shouldn't have anything to do with waterproofing.
I'm thinking that bushcraft structure is a bunch of RIT students,
Your seam tape is coming loose. Get some seam seal and it will make it stick back in place as well as sealing the seam
Thanks Tammie!
Bro, you have a great campfire. Get a cast iron stove,, and cook anything you want. Throw those tortilla's on there and the protein. You can do so much better!
Hard to know if a fire is possible beforehand, and a cast iron skillet would be a huge increase in weight. I don't mind the cold tuna!
A new channel idea for you: "Cooking with Kevin!"
I wear a wool cap man your head may get cold anyway like your vid
22:06 They are called "rumble strips"
nipple strips?
Was really hoping green-woods-jogger would roll by like clockwork again and be interviewed but pretty sure after last year he never returned to those woods.
Haha that would have been amazing
Expotentially let Sam tie the knots 😅
Hes the knotman for sure
so completely unrelated, but i was watching one of those conspiracy theory videos and they brought up the 'Rochester Hum". have you ever heard that?
I have not
