I agree with you that quality supersedes quantity in portfolio images. And, the proof is in the printing. Not all images that look good on the Internet print well. Anything not perfect will show up in prints, and especially large prints.

"The proof is in the printing" is a valid saying. * Quality supersedes quantity. * Printing out he photos is especially useful if you're selecting images for a show. I sometimes try a photo or two or three papers. As Hahnemuhle says, the paper makes the difference. That can't be seen on a screen.

My thought is that you're right: Quality beats quantity any time. And, the proof isin the printing.

Thanks a lot for this episode. Great tips for clearing up the clutter and putting things in the right perspective.

I think that the amount of images posted on a Web-based portfolio does indeed depend on ones work and how one feels about the content. If a lot of your photos are share-worthy, then you can perhaps use a site design that allows you to have tabbed sections with topic/category based photos.

To decide which photos I will enter in a show, etc., I post some on Facebook and Twitter, and check reaches and engagements. I also post them on KOAT Ch.7's ulocal page, and Nikon's Facebook page and check responses. It's interesting to see the differences in responses from the different venues.

Thanks a lot Ted for showing the right way to get better. Yes one needs a portfolio website to see how you can improve and which must be the right direction to profit from your work. I don't know much about building a website and what it takes to build one. One thing I'd like to point out that why we always have to make ourselves a certain genre of photographers and why people won't call you who need to call you for anything they want to photograph, may be it's weddings, architectural, portfolio, or product. Don't you think Ansel Adams wouldn't be a great wedding photographer ifever he was called to do the same? I believe if you have it in you you will always do any damn thing make wonderful with ease? What's your take on this?

I don't know any situation where quantity supersedes quality.

Ted, your shows are great but …. difficult to follow. If you didn’t talk so fast it would be perfect for those of us who are not English speakers.

I hate when you talk about the old days. I used to carry around a portfolio case stuffed with 16x20 prints. It weighed a ton. I'm glad the internet didn't come along until later cuz I'm the kind who would have put way too many photographs on it.
