The sole fact that this video took months to come to life speaks loudly about the effort you put in. Well done Sir.
Finally, after many years, I was able to find a channel that doesn't show a kid right out of the diapers, repeating street photography rules that were said decades ago, showing off their latest gear but not one single useful word about art. Thank you so much for giving quality references and presenting these artists with the respect they deserve. I hope it serves as a true inspiration to newcomer photographers and that it teaches them to look at the images that are everywhere instead of keep looking at their gear.
I love your presentation. Especially your commentary.
I enjoyed your comments on the Puritan drinking laws.
i agree so so much
Well said
exactly
Dipper ?
When you mentioned how much he utilized winter conditions I expected you to end it there and advise we give that a try. The next thing I know you’re waiting 2 months till winter to actually demonstrate using Sol Leiter’s techniques in winter - RESPECT 👏👏👏
This is what CZcams content should be, but rarely is. Your channel is able to be both informative and meaningful, and that's a huge feat of talent
You’re an amazing gift to humanity, I hope you know how much inspiration and impact your content has on those who truly appreciate it
who share the same world as you
I'm not a photographer, but I watched till the end like my life depended on it!
While I was staying dry and cosy under the blanket, you went out there, shot in different conditions, and brought up all these brilliant ideas. Impressive work, and I loved the quoted interview in the end, as a conclusion. ❤
Wonderful, glad you enjoyed it!
You have done a masterful job with Saul Leiter, capturing both style and technique. The atmosphere of colors, frames, and reflections is reminiscent of the master you are attempting to emulate. I think this is one of your best efforts in imitative photography.
Out of all of the photos, the most intriguing one for me was the top-down shot during winter of the woman and the walker. The minimalist use of empty space was quite captivating. ❤
Imitative Photography you are the personification of my favorite quote: “Jack of all trades master of none. Still better than a master if one”
His voice is so soothing. Like Pedro Pascal putting me to sleep with a bedtime story
A great video, Saul Leiter's work makes me wish I could have lived in those times for some reason. But the job of any photographer, hobbyist or professional, is to document the world as it is when they are alive. Leiter certainly did this to perfection. Keep up the great work.
Bravo. Leiter is my favorite photographer. But I seem to be overwhelmed when i think of trying to do something similar. But, your concentrating on anchor and abstract, red and yellow, negative space and nostalgia is a smart way to start. Your commentary, stories and photos are an inspiration. Looking forward to the next rainy day.
Your videos are excellent! They are a fantastic way to educate photographers. Sometimes photography content can be difficult to relate to, but you do such an impressive job at breaking down the artists core features.
I love your series on Imitative photography. These videos are both educative and inspiring. I hope you keep making them. You are a great educator as well as an excellent photographer.
Thanks Carole. There's lots more to come!
Another excellent video. There are so many CZcams photography charlatans, self-labelled street photography 'experts' and vloggers with hundreds of thousands of subscribers who only ever produce very average work accompanied by crappy video content. The influence they hold frustrates me when there are far better and more educational channels like yours out there. The time and effort you spend both researching and then photographing, not to mention editing, is to be commended. Yours is one of those channels all photographers should watch, be they experienced or new because, if nothing else, you inspire us to go out and experiment. Keep up the great work.
I am so happy to find this channel finally someone talks about photography and the art it is!!
Thank you so much for introducing me to Saul Leiter! I am a photographer and will admit, I don't follow much if any photographer outside of one - Jim Brandenburg. I've loved Wolves since I was young. He is a master at that. But he's also someone that didn't take conventional shots. Which attracted me even more.
Now, this is something that is more MY style. I look forward to learning more about Mr. Leiter. And becoming more of one to go into oblivion. 😉
Your winter shots from above got me emotional. Made me a little homesick for Chicago. Some of the best winters I've ever experienced. I also think you did a fantastic job with your "imitation" shots. Oh and great editing in regards to this video!!!
NEW SUBSCRIBER!!
One of the only channel notifications i actually look forward too. Something about trying to recreate the work of these greats feels so thrilling!!
Just discovered this channel. Can’t believe I’m just finding it now. These videos are equally informational and entertaining. Well edited, well written, great content, clear and concise. 10/10 might be my new favorite channel.
Once again, astonishing work. I really admire the planning and the patience you had to make this. Bravo !
Thanks!
I love watching these videos. First I learn about a brilliant photographer, and then it's like I'm in your head as you're out there figuring out what works as you go, always on your feet. This is an awesome channel.
Holy cow. The quality of this video. One of the best youtube videos I’ve seen on street photography. Almost like a very well paced documentary. Love this. And thanks for sharing this.
A masterful and delicious analysis, explanation and emulation. This is one of your best. Your approach teaches and inspires more than any other channel I know of. And does it in a refreshingly calm and intelligent manner.
Glad to hear!
Love Saul Leiter and this is an amazing work about him and his art that makes me understand him much better. Explanation of how he creates his composition is such a good reference for a young photographer. Thanks a bunch. 💘
Perfect video about the man, the artist and the photographer. I enjoyed every second of it. Thank you for the work you put into this and for sharing it with us.
Yet another excellent video. I love the way you break down the work of key artists, and fuel us with the inspiration to further explore our own creativity.
You have a great knack for telling a story, this half an hour has been very much appreciated, please keep on doing these for my selfish needs!
Stunning pictures which capture the essence of Saul Leiter. Interesting background details of Saul Leiter's work and your process. Thanks so much for making this video.
What a wonderful way to more fully appreciate and learn of the work of one of my favorite artists. Beautifully put together. And the music accompanying the snow scenes where you are shooting down from above of the building entrance…very special. Thanks
Beautiful homage to Leiter and his work. Thank you for taking the time to produce it with such a great narrative. Great work!
One of the best videos on photography on CZcams...thank you!!! Very inspiring!!!
Wonderful video! Great to see a video not just educating us on a legendary and inspirational photographer, but you actually went out and provided us with practical real life examples of how the inspirations can become realities. Kudos to you! Well done.
Wonderful video and inspiration. Combining the artist and live shooting. Great music and visual perfection. Thank you 🙏
The title came up as a suggestion and I thought 25 minutes I"ll check it out, quickly... and stayed the entire way through. Very well done I'll be checking out more of your work. And I've got some inspiration to try some new things.
This is the best video about Saul Leiter and street photographer. May need to watch more than once.
You're the best youtube channel for learning photography
Such an inspiring piece of work! I really appreciate the time and effort you obviously put into the the planning and execution of this video. Definitely my kind of photography channel 👌🙌🙌👏
I really enjoyed watching this. You have done a great job of analysing Leiter's images and showing how similar effects can be achieved. Thanks very much.
Mate, I forwarded this video to my friends and told them to watch all the videos on this channel. Instead of just watching all the videos, they went out after this one and filled up my WhatsApp with their Saul Leiter photos, and I'm surprised at how good the photos are!! You're an absolute inspiration and a wonderful teacher. Thanks for taking the time to show us new perspectives in photography. I know we have books and the internet to help us, but you go outside and practice what you preach, which is a great help to be able to find those kinds of shots. You're fabulous 😁👍
Wow that's so wonderful to hear!
@@ImitativePhotography I'm trying hard to get you more subs!! I want more people to learn how to take more interesting shots, and see how easy it can be because you explain things so well😁👍. I look forward to your next video 🤩🤩
I appreciate your channel, your tastes, and your effort. In this particular case, you have demonstrated the genius of Saul Leiter. His artwork is glorious, and defies imitation.
I appreciate the care that went into the making of this video. Very inspirational!
Always love these videos man. So much work and intent goes into each one. Thank you!
Thank you for creating and sharing such beautiful, inspiring work.
wow, best thing i've watched so far this year ! love the narration, photography journey, mood & the music. Perfect !
Brilliant, inspirational, educational. I started to shout in my head, "shoot now" as you allowed images to unfold from the bridge… the meeting of red light and street car. Your final shot with red umbrella… that one will stay with me. Will be revisiting this video as I do your others.
Great job on these! I really enjoy your deconstruction of photographic approaches. Thanks for all the work you put in.
Wow, I thoroughly enjoyed this. My photographic style naturally tends to lean this abstract way of reflections, layers and obscurity but I always feel like I’m doing things “wrong” - perhaps I just observe things unusually. Loved your video style of discussing the history, showing Saul’s work and going out to experiment with it yourself. ✨
Great to hear!
I love the mood that you created to explain the concept !!!
so relaxing
Excellent! This is worth watching over and over! Thanks for taking me along!
What an incredible film and way to honor Saul's work. Thank you for the inspiration and beautiful work!!
Great video. Toronto looks lovely. The story quality of your presentation had me hooked from the star.
Both your photos and the photos of Saul Leiter moved me!
This is excellent ! I really appreciate the way you describe the photographer first, and then go out and shoot. You're photos are brillant like the process ! Best regards 💫
I'm amazed by your extensive effort to reproduce such important photographers work. I'll give a try.
Thank you for this content.
I absolutely loved watching this! Stumbled across it randomly and watched the whole thing! Please make more of these! First class. Well worthy of being televised imo. 👌🏼👍🏼
There is more on the way!
I love everything in your video. You’re a gifted story teller. I’m going to binge watch all your video.
Thank you so much for putting the time and effort into this video , most enjoyable and also a rare video on here that is not selling gear . So refreshing, please keep this style 🙏🙏🙏👍👍
One of the most inspiration photography creator on CZcams. Thank you
Maybe I haven't seen enough videos on CZcams or read enough. But this is the first time I've seen a breakdown of how someone took their photos. Great stuff!
Just discovered your channel and this great series of videos, what a fantastic way to discover great photographers' work and see how you put their style to test in practice! Cannot imagine the amount of work behind this video, thanks a lot!
An excellent, nuanced and thoughtful approach to explaining the underpinnings of the process of a true street photography great. Thanks so much for the time and effort you have put into making such a thoughtful video about how we can learn from his process. Great photos, and a great explanation of the process and his influences. Thanks so much.
My photographer friend introduced me to Saul Leiter (whom I'd never heard of) so I Googled the name and found your video. It's superb in every way and, although I'm not a photographer (but love photography and art), I was absolutely mesmerised by the content and the way you approached the subject in a logical way. It certainly made intelligent viewing. As 'followtheboat' said, "There are so many CZcams photography charlatans, self-labelled street photography 'experts' and vloggers with hundreds of thousands of subscribers who only ever produce very average work accompanied by crappy video content." ... this is what CZcams should be showing. And, what made the video even better, is that your voice is so good to listen to. Thank you. Needless to say, I've subscribed.
Thank you for the heartwarming comment!
Its beautiful the way you decoded a style and then showed us how to execute it.. Keep up the good work..
The quotes are so powerful and inspiring. Thank-you.
Great video, I enjoyed that certain events just ended up happening to you because you were just out there trying to take photos. I am new to photography, and this is by far the most informative and inspiring video I have seen. Thank you for taking all the time it took for you to make this video. Thank you for being a hard-working and passionate photographer
Beautiful lesson and beautiful shots.
Thank you for your videos and inspiration I (and many other too) get from each video. Please continue your work.
Thank you for making content like this. You have no idea how much it helps.
Excellent work. It's occurred to me now after so long that Leiter has been an inspiration to almost every street photographer I've seen online. It's a timeless trend that I don't think wears itself out like other styles. It's also the style I was trying to unknowingly imitate, and now I think I have a good chance of obtaining similar shots. Thanks for the video!
That's great to hear, thanks!
One of the best CZcams video's I've seen. Thanks for the insight and attention to detail - I'm now a subscriber...
You did a fine job on the video production and the photographs. Thank you very much for your time you've sacrificed to inspire and entertain.
Photography for many has become forgotten, art form. Nice to look at people in the past who viewed his photography as his art, and we were able to cut out of the everyday world, something beautiful and unique and interesting that we all walk by every day, but never stopped to look. And he humbly captured it for others to see and enjoy. Thank you for this unique inspiration which I will apply to my own photography and unknowingly have been doing over the years as I like many of these same elements that he used. Regards Gerry
Bravo my good friend ... I am speechless when coming across this episode luckily. This holiday season, I decided to go on a splurged and paid $300 for a discontinued Saul Leiter's Early Colors which I have been longing for years. Watching someone taking months to capture the moments on the street in Leiter's style and paying our tributes to this great photographer is a wonderful feeling. Happy holidays!!!
Fantastic, happy holidays to you too!
This is what we/(I) have been waiting for. A genuinely beautiful, considered video about a really interesting photography subject.
Totally enjoyable and really useful. Thankyou.
So glad i came across your channel, very well presented...beautiful.
Dude this location your at is simply amazing. No matter what season your shooting in. Love your videos keep up the great work sir...
Again a fantastic video!!!!saul leiter was my favourite photographer. I’d love to see you cover nick Brandt, kodelka and lee Jeffries
Fantaboulous! Thanks for this share. So many things make more sense.
Excellent and instructive, great narration and good choice of music.
WOW! One of the best videos about street photography ever. So well made, nice edited, just perfect. And I can imagine it was not so easy with a manual lens and umbrella to operate all :D
Love your videos. Fantastic and brilliant. Don’t stop 👍
I loved this. It reminds me of what i look for. Its like mirroring wavelengths listening to you explore. 😊
I really like your videos and the way you explain the theory and how to put it into practice. The explanation of the concept of the anchor and its opposition to abstract elements, as well as Saul Leiter's use of negative spaces, has been very brilliant. Thank you very much for your work.👏👏👏👏
Glad I could help!
thank you for putting this together! what a great inspirational video.
Fantastic video. Informative and inspiring!
I thoroughly enjoyed your video! I’ve never heard of Saul, but now I’m a fan. You’ve inspired me to even take notes! Thank you
You have a great photography channel. I am so glad I camr across it. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Truly a great video. Glad I found it. Will be viewing more. Thank you for creating this and posting it.
Your analysis of the elements of his work is eye-opening. Thank you so much for this video! ❤
I love this so much. Especially the field recordings instead of stock music or so. Makes me want to get out and about.
Brilliant work!
Captivating and inspiring.
Thanks for such a masterful video.
I had always loved photography. A picture is almost a slice of a reality that stopped being, the moment you decided to look at it. I never picked it up, professionally, during my teens or twenties. I'd just take photos of things I liked, because they represented moments I wanted to remember.
Nowadays, I've joined a business and have, through necessity, rekindled my love for photography. I bought an old DSLR and a lens I heard was good. It's like rediscovering an old friend that never stopped being close. I'm almost surprised to know my own personal outlook on images and things was shared by someone who created what I could only call "moving pieces of beautiful art". All I take now, are snippets of my coworkers and artists with dreams of their own. Perhaps, through practice and self discovery, I too can create moving and beautiful art of my own.
Thank you for the video.
"A picture is almost a slice of a reality that stopped being, the moment you decided to look at it. "
Nicely put.
Very nice, thank you. Retired 70 year old here, photo hobbyist in the 70's and 80's, was going to pick up a camera again, but digital menus turn me off. I will check your other videos out, thanks again!
One of your best videos! Great job! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellent video about Saul Leiter Style and technique!!!
Excellent information about Saul, and that you made photographs recreating Leiter's style. Well done!
You really nailed a few shots, that looked a lot like Leiter's work. Especially the red umbrella, but I have a feeling you knew that (by placing it last on the list of photos you took). You could have used the Picture Styles on your Canon to emulate expired film, but perhaps that was beyond the scope of your project. Keep the videos coming!
Men, this is so inspiring. I can not thank you enough.
Wow, nailed it with the last shot, the red umbrella in the snow. Congrats! Awesome video and an incredible amount of work.
