So for anyone that doesn’t know, when this movie came out, a lot of teenage girls started simping after the young onceler. After a while of fan art and stuff, they wanted to ship him with someone, and him not having any close relationship with anyone in the movie, people made AUs of the onceler, the most popular being the onceler (the hipster one) and the greedler (the onceler in the green suit) and shipping them with eachother. There was a bunch of other AUs, and it got to the point where they made a rp series called camp onceler, and it was awful. Sarah Z made an hour long video about it a while back, and it goes over everything.
it was glorious. i love an entire industry of askblogs fueled by nothing but raw sexual energy towards one of the least sexy characters ever.

You know, the “all Dr Seuss movies have a town” thing is actually valid. All of them take place or feature some town (whoville is used twice as the main Town, both in all of the Grinch adaptations and Horton Hears a Who). It's a weird but interesting constant, considering that The Lorax didn't even have a main town like Thneedville in the original story, from what I remember.
No the original book is literally just the kid walks up the tower, the Onceler gives him his life story, and then basically gives the kid the seed and the story ends. They made up the town and all that for no reason other than padding the runtime.
