- With the upcoming Coronation of King Charles III, there is a palpable excitement around the United Kingdom. It is hard to believe it has been almost 70 years to the day since the last coronation, of her majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II, Charles' mother.
With many events happening around the Coronation, there is plenty to be excited for, none more so than all of the wonderful black tie events. With that in mind, I have decided to use this time as a chance to upgrade some of the aspects of my black tie wardrobe. So join me as we visit two of London's most historic brands to search out some incredible additions to my wardrobe. This time from John Lobb and Budd Shirtmakers.
The original John Lobb, located at No 9 St. James’s Street in London, is widely regarded as one of the world’s preeminent bespoke shoemakers. Established in 1849, John Lobb has been discretely crafting bespoke shoes for some of the world’s most powerful and important people for over 150 years. Now run by the fifth generation of Lobb family members, John Lobb stands, as it has always done, for extremely high standards in the exacting craft of bespoke shoemaking.
Located in the Piccadilly Arcade right off of London's famous Jermyn Street, Budd Shirtmakers has been outfitting some of the world's best-dressed for over 100 years.

My father was a coldstream gaurd in the coronation of Queen Elizabeth 11 in 1953, He is still a very smart and upstanding man, A typical old soldier, And still going strong, I hope I am as smart and forthright as him when Im his age. Also Im hoping he will get his 100 birthday letter from King charles god willing. Good luck kirby and keep making great video's

After watching your video and some videos about the nice hotels in London I was wondering how does a male dress for afternoon tea at the Ritz and other hotels like the Ritz. Thanks for your videos.
Another great video, really like the colour and the silk. I am just wondering about the suit he is wearing, I think the colour is magnificent and the cut is great but it looks not to fit right on the collar or on the chest area (it hangs too low).
Beautiful shirt colour and silk. Would it be a good idea to have a pocket handkerchief in the same silk? I am sure too that Bates could help finding a nicer hat for you. For me I like to value and use what I have worn before and not have to buy something for each new occasion but each to his/her own. FYI not coronated but crowded Kirby 😂

Now, I maybe wrong but I get the distinct impression that the John Lobb gent was less than subtle in his steering Kirby away from the opera pump. Not sure Kirby was too open to the steer.

I still have bespoke shirts made by ‘Mr Butcher’ nearly 20 years ago - what a miserable ‘s of a b’ he was (entirely humourless) but the shirts still look good as new despite having been worn several times each year.

@@Lord_Sebastian_Snufflepuss As did we all, once. But work out the investment return on an expensive shirt worn repeatedly over twenty years, the fact it gets better and better with correct washing, has not frayed at all and still looks good with a suit and tie.

Very happy to hear that Budd has organic cotton fabrics. I have recently ordered two vegan, bamboo suits but my tailor did not have organic cotton for their shirts.
I've found an organic cotton shirtmaker off the rack, which works well with some adjustments for now, but this is a longer-term solution (for when I have more money 💀).
I've also failed to find any off the rack organic cotton black/white tie shirts, so Budd seem like the perfect solution for this one-off.
I appreciate your support for the history and tradition of these bespoke crafts Kirby, but Kings are "crowned" not "coronated"... and it is many syllables shorter too 😊.

Kirby, it may be too late now but you might like to ask Sartoria Gallo to take a look at your suit collar. You’re obviously subconsciously feeling that it isn’t meeting the back of your shirt given you keep shrugging at the jacket front, and there is a clear difference when you look at the collars of the suits that Darren and Jonathan are wearing. In other respects the suit is lovely.
That suit has had lots of issues. I also noticed it pulling around the buttonhole.
It’s a beautiful suit, but my off-the-rack stuff fits better.
@@willre00 If you're lucky enough to be on the block for an off the rack, you are very lucky.
I know someone that is a straight up 40 chest and fits the blocks.
The more out of the block, the more you have to compromise, sacrifice length for chest, arms for shoulders, etc.
I never discourage people from OTR, it does make life easier if you can do it.
@@willre00I think bespoke clothing is just plain ridiculous if I’m being honest. The only people who can tell something is bespoke are ones who create bespoke garments. There is NEVER a need for bespoke clothing besides it just being a hobby.

I would generally avoid coronation stuff. The public is widely agaisnt it during a cost of living crisis

Kirby, what did you think of the faux pas performed by Trump wearing white tie in 2019 when he attended an event by the Queen?😬
If I may offer an opinion: it was one of many sartorial gaffes. But of course, it stood out because the occasion was so special.
The chief issue was the white waistcoat. It was far too long. (A recurring theme in Donald Trump's long list of menswear blunders. See also: his ties. The length of his trousers.) A waistcoat should always be shorter than a jacket. The reason is simple: a longer waistcoat skews the proportions. By having a waistcoat that long, you're creating a very strong break between the top and bottom. Especially when it runs past the jacket. It's almost 50/50 in Trump's outfit and it creates two distinct visual blocks. Especially since you're dealing in absolute contrast: black and white. Ideally, you want to shift the focus to the top of the body and lead the eyes all the way to a framed face. Trump's attempt was an absolute failure in that regard. Your eyes were drawn to the bottom of the waistcoat.
It would have been better if he had stuck to his ossified '80s corporate powerhouse wardrobe antics. At least he was on terra firma there, while now he looked completely and painfully lost at sea.
Not a Trump fan, but: He was voted into office, the old bag wasn't; so why should he care about the way he's dressed while meeting her? He was the more important person in that meeting, he could've shown up in shorts and a hoodie.
I think the 'Palpable excitement' for most British people is because we get a day off work nothing to do with the coronation haha

I'm English and the latest poll says 52% of the British public have "no interest in the coronation". Sorry to burst the bubble of all the Americans on here but this is a VERY idealistic view of London and the UK. You notice v rarely does price get meantioned. British pp don't all pay 5k for a suit or £100 + for a shirt. This is as rediclous. Sometimes I watch his videos to fall asleep to. But seriously my cringe level has been reached with this video.
