    The cost of living crisis is making the public really think whether is worth keeping their vehicles for much longer. My vehicle has 225K and still goes well and I’ve saved a shed load of cash keeping it for 17 years. ICE vehicles run and run if you look after them. Changing your car every 2 or 3 years isn’t cheep motoring and I know many who are keeping their vehicles for in excess of 10 years.

      Kept my ICE Merc for 8 years. It was clear the little niggles would soon be big expensive ones and it sat on the drive because £70 to fill up for 200 miles was no fun.
      Traded it for an EV. Don't care about depreciaton, it wasn't a fortune to buy, but my God it's changed my life. It doesn't sit on the drive, it's out on the road where it belongs and costs me a fraction of the ICE vehicle.

      I guess it depends on the ICE car. My Audi A6 diesel is 12 years old, in perfect condition and does 50 mpg. Looks like new, presently faultless and if it goes wrong easy to fix. I am 70 years old and expect it to be the last car I own...

      @@stewartburnett7303 I had a very confusing, brand new Kia Sportage as a loaner recently, various parts of the instrumentation claimed it was a HEV and others, a PHEV, and it claimed it had regen braking; but nothing I did managed to produce enough regen power for the electric motor to ever cut in (supplied with the battery at 5%, over 2 days I got it up to 18%).
      You might ask why I didnt recharge it at home; well, it has a Type 2 connector, and my old Soul EV has the older, Type 1; and the Sportage didnt come with a cable.

      PHEV has no benefit unless you can charge at home or at work or both and then you can drive all electric both ways, in which case you would be better off with a pure electric car with much less maintenance and with the possibility to charge very cheaply at home

    • @DrDave_63395
      @DrDave_63395 Před 4 dny +1

      @@casperhansen826 Hum! I’d state your comment slightly more generally as. If you can charge on a cheap tariff when your car unused - typically charging at home over night - and the battery size is sufficient that the EV range comfortably covers your usual daily mileage then a PHEV may be worthwhile. It overcomes the range /charging anxiety some have with a BEV. The downside is greater complexity as there are both ICE and BEV power trains.

Pushed a hole in my bumper and ripped it from mountings. Also small chips along edge of headlight. Thanks to the Sentry mode I got great footage and VRM of offending vehicle, also of one of the occupants.
    Thanks to this I have instantly been given another Model 3 to use and now waiting to see who can repair mine. If you want to use this to help show bonus of Tesla EV feel free. Other thing is it showed all the damage from f/n/s door of Land Rover down back door and wheel arch as it had to back up to be able to move away. It then just drove out of the car park.

    Dave we bought a new petrol hatchback last year for £14k there were no new EV alternatives so price parity has a way to go. If my employer offered salary sacrifice it may well have been possible to lease an EV though I tend to save up pay cash. Personally I find it unfortunate that company car drivers get such favourable treatment for their often perk vehicle as quite often they are pretty well paid it's probably worth some benefit but not to that degree.
    I am looking forward to price parity as other than the £1k cost of a home charger the use case is there for my 70 mile return commute though I suspect the government is hooked on fuel duty do will be looking at replacing the lost revenue.
    On pollution isn't there a concern about particle pollution from tyres brakes etc so concern there as the current technology in EV do get through the tyres but of course with current energy production pollution is still produced burning fossil fuels to make the electricity plus losses in transmission and charging so it's s bit more of a calculation if we still want personal transport.
