- The Genesis Prize Foundation created "Jews in Sports" to honor outstanding achievement by Jewish individuals in the field of sports. Because the Genesis Prize honors individuals for their extraordinary accomplishment in a particular field, The Foundation pays tribute to the field of the Laureate each year. "Jews in Sports" was debuted at the 2019 Genesis Prize Ceremony in honor of Robert Kraft, owner of the six-time Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots of the National Football League. Some of the athletes featured in the video include: Julian Edelman, David Beckham, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, Aly Raisman, Tal Brody, Hank Greenberg, Yuri Lyapkin, Irina Viner, Garry Kasparov, and many more.

Let us not forget Bill Goldberg, wrestling champ and NFL lineman.
Great video! THANK YOU. We need more videos like this on the internet, more films on TV, more movies that show all the positives of the Jewish people, instead of only the negatives. I think all of us, but especially our young people are hungry for this positive feedback. They deserve it.
I remember a tale from a piece on Hank Greenberg. Disclaimer- I was born in Detroit in '56. I grew up listening to tales of Hank Greenberg. Anyway. When Greenberg went into the Army(drafted), he was in line in basic training. Drill instructor came up and said "I hate Jews. Any Jews here. Greenberg raised his hand and said I am Jewish. Drill instructor walks up to Greenberg(6foot4), looks up at him and says something to the effect of "well, not with you". In the video, Greenberg's son tells it soooo well.
This bought tears to my eyes. Thank you for making this.
Forgot to mention Mark Spitz, with 7 Olympic gold medals in swimming.
No, he was mentioned. You weren't paying attention.
@@Rambam1776 Thanks. I'll go back and check 👍
I loved that story about my people.
I can really relate to this video.
No I'm not Jewish, but ...
I onced dated a girl who said she worked with a guy who lived next to a Jewish couple.
So I feel I have a bond with Jewish people.
Inspirational
That gave me a good belly laugh !
@@butchyshoe Me too!

Jews do that to you. It must be that Hebrew mysticism some people like to talk about. Cheers!
How could you forget henry Wittenburgm Gold Medal in wrestling in 1948, silver in 1952 and coach of the American Olympic wrestling team in 1968?
I followed Al Michaels through 2 TV stations in Honolulu and was nicely surprised when he arrived in the lower 48 to broadcast different sports. I have always been a fan. He was man of the year at KGMB. I have known that some of my favorite sports stars, actors and other entertainment stars were Jewish, but never knew that Al Michaels was until 20 minutes ago. Hooray for Al.
I really enjoyed this video and have watched several others about jews in every walk of life.
What about Daniel P Mendoza (jewish ), the first recognised heavyweight boxing champion of the world in the 18th century
My son-in-law is his descendant and looks just like him!
What about Gal Fridman who won Israel's first and only Olympic Gold Medal???
It has recently been reported that martial arts legend Bruce Lee's great-grandfather, Mozes Hartog Bosman, came from a Dutch Jewish family of German descent.
Jews where originally Asian before migrating to the middle-east and mixing with Arabs, Persians, Africans, Asians and other type of people of the middle-east even some that used to be Caucasian.
@@leekenyon8705 : Cite your sources, please?? Don’t spread unsubstantiated ‘information.’
Good for Us, them, I am very proud of our athletes
Mark Spitz a long time ago. He had it all. Looks brains athletic talent.
October 1993 will forever be remembered as one of the greatest days in the history of the Israel national team. Shlomo Sharaf's players beat France against all odds 2:3 away
Superb video. Thanks. Shalom.
Wow ! I loved watching this ! So inspiring!!!
Well done. Makes me sad, angry and, in the end, proud and happy. Thank you.
Great PEOPLE of the BOOK
Achievers in sports..truly the JEWS excel in all aspects of life
I never knew there were so many great Jewish athletes. Very interesting and informative. Thank you for sending it.
Well said
They are missing Rod Carew and Soccer announcer Andres Cantor.
That's why we have Adam Sandler's song to fill us in ("Bur bur bur, He Converted")
Rod Carew isn't really Jewish. His wife was Jewish, and they raised the children Jewishly, including the one who died as a teenager.
Bucinka8 He converted to Judaism and considers himself Jewish.
@@steveadams7596 No, I am sorry but he did not convert. Best to you anyway.
Harold Abraham-Gold Medal Olympic100m champion--Chariots of Fire
proud of my origin
Well done!
Great film! 👌🏽
The 3 best Jewish sportsmen of all time (in no particular order), Yossi Benayoun, Ronny Rosenthal, Avi Cohen.
You forgot to mention Rabbi Raphael Halperin who wrestled with the Star of David as a symbol
So proud that we have overcome the barriers that kept us out are now gone.
@Geri Spieler : Ah, not all gone, unfortunately. They just keep on popping up.
Very Impressive Loved watching this Hold ur head high You got what it takes I would say ur born with determination
The Jewish people have excelled in so many fields that we shouldn't be surprised that they can also excel in the Sporting world! Well done to them!
@Benjamin Mordecai That may be true but so what? The Jewish people are a tiny people numerically but they have had tremendous success in many fields and more the power to them....we should be emulating the Jewish experience instead of being Jealous of them....I applaud success by any people.....good on them....
I have great admiration for the Jewish people.
Mark Spitz, great swimmer for USA @ Munich Olympic Games, c1972.
My grandfather's brother, Joss Shore, ran in the Milrose games alongside Harold Abrahams of Chariots of Fire. Story goes he was running down by the beach in Brooklyn, and some running club was running there and thought they'd show the Jew up in a race. He pantsed all of them, and they asked him to join the club.
Chariots of Fire ,the movie was based on Scottish missionary,Eric Liddell . He refused to run on a Sunday, the Sabbeth. The King asked him , did other dignitaries, but he still refused. One of his teammates took his place. He went on to win gold on a day other than a Sunday.
@@catherinecrew1739 I suggest you look up the actual Harold Abrahams.

Uplifting Video!
Awesome
Great. Most of which I never knew.
Outstanding well done
Where's Mark Spitz, who won 7 golds in the 972 Olympics, and held the record for most golds for thirty years...
He was there. Mustache and all.

Fabulous video
What about Tamir Goodman in basketball?
The Jews always have the golden touch👍
You forgot Victor Perez, Yohann Fauveau, Cyril Benzaquen, Fabrice Fourment, Patrick Bittan, Fabrice Benichou. You dont like french jewish or what?
Oh yeah, Patrick Bittan. I forgot about him. My old BJJ coach trained with him. I know of a world famous BJJ name, but out of respect for him, he is private and doesn't make it a public thing. Few others in the BJJ community as well. There are a number of other Jewish martial arts champions and/or high level players, but overall, I think they are known mostly for Judo. Gene LeBell being an old school Judo guy, but Israel had some podiums in sport Judo. While I saw quick pics of them in this vid, there wasn't enough focus IMO.
You forgot Bill Goldberg, the greatest wrestler and footballer.
tHANK YOU
I have to admit that when I saw the title for this video "Jews in Sports" I was thinking it was a comedy sketch!!!!!
How very sad that the ten South African Springbok Rugby Players (also known as the Minyan of South African Rugby) were NOT mentioned!!! There are many very well known South African Jews who have excelled in sport all over the world and in South Africa as well. Perhaps a follow up on those you left out should be made!!
Joost vanderweinsten half back
I am American but was aware of Joel Stransky and his role in South Africa's World Championship I thought that I read somewhere that the team didn't consider themselves lucky unless they had a Jewish player on side.
Some of these have very little Jewish heritage.
There are other great Jewish achievers in other sports not mentioned such as Joel Stransky (rugby union), Ali Bacher (cricket), Albert Rosenfeld (rugby league), Sid Moses (Isle of Man Tourist Trophy motorcycling) and Jo Aleh (sailing). This short documentary really only points towards sporting codes recognised by Americans.
Many of the greatest fencers were Jewish.
Stiring moss, francois cevert, jody scketcher, lance stroll for formula 1
Amare Stoudemire?
Absolutely yes. He’s a convert to Judaism and is a Jew like you and me.
Happy is inside us.
I can eat more chicken than any man alive 🐔
And where are Jews of sport of other countries?
How can you forget Moe Berg?
Some of these athletes I had no idea were Jewish. Yeah for Us!!
Very interesting.

inadequate! missed most of the best stuff. greatest female sprinter in track history, also a jew, Irena Szewinska, the only sprinter (male of female) to hold the world record in all 3 of the main sprint events (100m, 200m, 400m). She won medals in every olympics from Tokyo 1964 to Montreal 1976, one of longest olympic track & field streaks (figures that our greatest physical specimen would be a jewish woman). David Sime, Marty Glickman, olympic sprinters, Dwight Stones, possibly greatest high jumper ever, . Jews who won Super Bowls as members of greatest NFL Dynasties: Ed Newman OL (Dolphins, 1973), Randy Grossman TE (Steelers, 1974-1979), Harris Barton OL (49ers, 1988-89, 1994). Sid Luckman Chicago Bears quarterback.
I hate sports,
But this means alot to me.
😭💝
Why?
Isn’t bettman Jewish?
Too many Americans! One country with many Jewish Champions is Hungary! From Football to Fencing!!
They totally missed out on the contributions of British, Australia, New Zealand and South African Jewish contributors.
Well, they mentioned a few Brits (but not many). But you're right about the other countries. New Zealand's olympic champion rower Nathan Cohen and legendary rugby international Josh Kronfeld deserve a mention, at least!
James Dignan music In SA rugby, Morris Zimmerman, Fred Smollan, Alan Menter, Joseph Kaminer, Wilf Rosenberg, Louis Babrow, Cecil Moss, Okey Geffin, Syd Nomis and Joel Stransky (half) come to mind. In cricket, Manfred Suskind, Sydney Olinsky, Dennis Gamsay, Norman Gordon, Ali Bacher, Adam Bacher have represented SA.
@@cliftonboyz1959 I'd forgotten that Stransky was Jewish. Great player.
@@cliftonboyz1959 The springbok hockey captain. Unbelievable player. Just can't think of his name.
You missed Israeli basketball star Banana Shafir

Didn't mention Sidney Franklin the great matador from Brooklyn.
"El Nino del Biberon," as he was known to his Spanish friends!
Owning a pro team does not count.
😂😂😂
Not included here is Angelica Rozeanu, the woman who won the greatest number of World Table Tennis Championships in the history of the sport. She played for Romania in the 1940’s and 50’s, whose anti Semitic government tarnished her image with false accusations when she represented the country at the Tokyo Worlds, and she eventually emigrated to Israel where she died. Also ignored were many Jewish male World Table Tennis champions of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s like Victor Barna, Laszlo Belak, Richard Bergmann, as well as US’s own flamboyant table tennis great Marty Reisman.
Rudi Ball
The one Jew the Nazis weren't able to kick of the German Olympic Hockey team.
Gervonta Davis and Tiger Woods.
Many more agents and management types than athletes
Founder of the Harlem globetrotters, sorry forgot the name
Abe Saperstein
But have they ever won a WWE championship or a World Heavy Weight title ?
Why is no one standing for Israel?
Doesn't mention Diego Maradona, Mohammed Ali, Shohei Ohtani, Pat Henderson, Paidi O'Se, Rachel Blackmore ...
Beckham is not a Jew, I understand one of his g-fathers was. George and Ben Cohen are not members of the tribe.
You understand Beckham had a grandfather who was Jewish ?!? The doc was very clear that he gave credit to his gf as instrumental in his life. Listen closer next time. And there was no mention of the Cohens: what was that point about???
If it is on his mother's side then he is Jewish.
Harold Abrahams converted to Roman Catholicism
You can never leave the Jewish nation.
Abraham's only won due to the Scottish runner Eric Liddel not running on the Sabbath guess Abraham's was ok running on the Sabbath as he was not really Jewish more into girls and such.😊
Abrahams was better at 100 and Liddel better over 200. TheJewish sabbath is on Saturday and Liddel did not run on Sunday as a Christian. 'They' turn up everywhere.
Братья Кличко евреи ???
Contralt2374, да братья Кличко евреи! Когда они учились в школе у них была другая фамилия!!!

JEWS AND GREEKS ARE THE MOST BRILLIANT RACES THAT EVER EXISTED.
Here we go
The most brillant race is the Paris-Dakar one
Самые великие аферисты: греки и евреи. Ещё не хватает армян.
@@contralt2374This is how looks Antisemitism , in this case from Russia. Long history. How you can say good word about Jews.
And one more thing. I would not include Rodnina in this . Theoretically yes , her mom was Jew, But it was no bigger secret like this when she complete and even now she said a word about this. It’s very bad fact her biography.
The Slutskaya. Never talk about father, like he does not exist. Just about mom.
Her parents not divorced .
Who cares about the sports activities by a member of a particular religion? This is weird.
That's because Jews were discriminated against for 2000 years and had to overcome great obstacles. The fact that they excelled well beyond their numbers in so many fields is a miracle.
Yossi Benayoun he played soccer was a good player at Liverpool 👍
