- This session featured two leaders and practitioners dedicated to creating more nurturing and safe communities for children and families: Dr. Wanda Boone and Kristie Stutler.
Dr. Boone is the CEO and founder of Together for Resilient Youth (TRY) in Durham, North Carolina. Founded in 1992, TRY is a coalition of coalitions working through a grassroots framework to prevent trauma and the challenges that occur when it occurs. Today, TRY is serving youth - particularly black and Latino youth - across North Carolina, as well as in several other states and internationally. Dr. Boone is a forerunner and recognized as an expert in the field of resilience, Adverse Childhood Experiences and trauma-informed living.
Kristie Stutler is the vice president of Policy and Influence at Urban Strategies, Inc., a national nonprofit with more than 40 years of community planning and development experience. She worked with system-involved youth for nearly 20 years and for three years served as the lead on juvenile justice reform for the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice. As a result of this work, in two years, Kentucky DJJ saw a 42% reduction in the number of youth placed in their residential programming. She is an alumna of the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Children and Family Fellowship.
