I heard the music, saw the title, and kinda felt that energy of what may have been the reason behind the defender video, I'm definitely not mentally prepared to experience such a tragedy with my dad, and I'm extremely sorry for your loss.

Your video with the 918 is still my favourite of yours of all time. Having lived in NZ for 15 years now, watching these videos really makes me appreciate how much emptier our roads are, and how much more lenient our traffic laws are (particularly if you have a LEGAL radar detector and drive normally around towns and bigger highways). You can really have so much fun on NZ backroads compared to Australia without worrying about being thrown in jail!

haha same here in america. If you watch LA car youtubers it makes it look like our cops are super strict and we can't do anything to our cars but outside of LA and New York you have incredible winding roads with no traffic, you can ride around with a radar detector legally(except in WV for some reason) and cops will pull you over because they like your car and want to take a look lol

P1’s the one for me. Lucky enough to have been in a friend’s P1 at Spa and Senna at Portimao. No other McLaren makes the noise of the P1 and the LT’s sound so tame in comparison. It’s such an angry and totally unique sound. Everything about it is just spaceship, and at full chat it sounds like it wants to rip a hole in the space-time continuum. Senna didn’t have a patch on it for excitement factor. Such a shame that so many of them sit undriven

I think In Australia you can register any letter and number combo you like, hence the same as GB.
Having spent some time in the passenger seat of a P1, I can confirm it is absolutely incredible

Sam I just saw your last video of you driving your Father's 20-year-old Defender. I'm so so😢sorry for your incredibly hard loss. I lost my father October 30th 2020 to stage 4 Terminal long Cancer he was only 70 yr old.. I am named after him he was the third I'm the forth we share the same first and middle names. Just know that he will always be in your heart ❤️ forever my friend.

Hi There I could not comment on your Defender Vid but I wanted to share this with you I own a 2008 Defender just like your dads and when i go i want two things to happen One is I want my Defender to take me on my last journey and i want my Son too keep it and run it for as long as he can maybe pass it on to my Grandson There are special just like your Dad we dads have faults just like the Defender we are not perfect and as we age we get the same problems as defenders part fail we start to rattle and we are not as fast as we were once in life but what you see is what you get a strong personality and a workhorse which provides for the family You enjoy every min you can young man with your dads car you have something very special indeed all the best for 2024 I so much enjoy your videos Kindest Regards

Great vid Sam. I knew the P1 was fast but frikkin hell it’s turned the clock back it’s that fast 😂. At start of the video it was just after 7pm and at 11 mins in its only 6.54pm. Great stuff mate love it bud

I spoke with Frank Stevenson when this came out, I was working at Mclaren at the time. I said to him it looks like something from the future, the funny thing is, his reply “this is old to us, 6 years in fact” goes to show how much work went into this. I spent a lot of time working on the composite parts of this. Hopefully once day I’ll have a passenger ride!

I think the P1 has aged the best of the three. The 918 was my favourite at the time but design wise its aged the quickest.
More like a totally stunning design for the 918 but with complicated (now outdated) hybrid tech and a ride devoid of passion and spectacle with its AWD system. 918 is the best daily for the three though. LaF is to me the one to have with it's powertrain/gearbox/V12/RWD
Agreed, just look at that back of the car, it's definitely one of the most stunning cars ever produced 😍
They will update the battery some day and it will be lighter.

One of the greatest cars ever made. With the correct design spec tyres (I think it is Pirelli P-Zero Cut Pro or thereabouts) the P1 is fastest out of the holy trinity and easily the best looking as looks like it comes from outer space. Poster car, and some ❤

For a second i thought you drove the speedy kiwi special, very similar spec to it, video peaked my interest cause i sat in one as a wee kid. Core memory. Sadly it isnt cause it doesnt have the old kiwi symbol on the side skirts but by god its a lovely car

Kinda bummed you didn't mention the significance of 'P1OOV'. The very same car Clarkson drove around Belgium and CH hooned around Yas Marina!
Australian regs so different car. But I believe they did it in honour of the iconic British PM plate P1 OOV
@@CSM13It's the same car, finished in Amethyst Black. Lee Collection just recently imported the car into the country and prolly gave it the same plate as a nod to its history

One of my all time favourite cars!
Saddest thing I heard was the battery tech was hard to get replaced which pushes them to sit and not be driven… So sad that the tech in it is the thing that’ll cause them eventually to be unserviceable.. gonna be interesting for future vehicles such as the SF90 to see if they meet the same fate and become unusable…
There is an updated battery and charger for the P1, but it costs $300,000 to replace both. Battery alone is around $190,000, plus $45,000 for the new charger, and labor. While you're doing that job, McLaren will recommend changing a few other things, so the job ends up being around 300k. That's the real reason many P1s don't have the battery fixed or upgraded, not that there is a shortage or hard to find. Even for someone that can easily buy a P1, its a tough pill to swallow for something that doesn't keep the car from being driven, and adds like 10 more HP.

Which McLaren would be the best for uk roads?
The hybrid battle era of 2015 released 3 cars that began the “hypercar” era and those 3 cars will appreciate to ungodly levels over the years.
Sam!! good job!! did you actually feel the eletric motor making a difference in driving experience? I’m asking because I think Tavarish’s P1 will not be complete without the ev part
The small amount of HP added by the EV system isn’t worth the added weight. Tavarish is better off without it

I'm assuming this is the same P1 00V that was driven by Chris Harris and the like during the first press drives!
Looking at the license plate of this car... Is it the same as the "P1 OOV" Mclaren XP car that was the one driven by Chris Harris, Clarkson and many others? Seems like the same sort of black-purple? Wasn't that surely a story worth telling?
It was the first thing I noticed about the car. P1 OOV as a license plate is legendary for a P1 and a great nod to add to their car. It was definitely worth mentioning.
