I run through a few of the most important knobs on your Kemper. Check out my profile packs: bighairyprofile... The Diaz profile I use in this vid is in this pack: bighairyprofil...
Dude this should be mandatory viewing for anyone who buys one of these. The Studio EQ in there is a super handy tool too. Do more "dialling in tones" vids :D
Great video. I really appreciate the tips on dialing in the Kemper. Sometimes I really get it right and then I switch guitars and it sounds all sorts of wrong.
Yeah, that's one place where the amps have the modelers beat. I can switch guitars with a real amp, and it's not a "good vs bad" thing. It's more of a "different colors" thing.
Nice vid. Would love it if you could talk about how you handle recording and mixing guitars in a track. Obviously, it depends alot on the the track. But, any general rules of thumb or tips?
get the most out of your kemper my way: 1.sell it =+1500$ 2.buy a small used tube amp -1000$(deluxe reverb/hrd deluxe/ac15/jtm20 etc) 3.swap the speaker-150$(creambacks are nice) 4.swap v1 preamp tube to vintage mullard used -100$(or rca or ge) 5.you have a better tone! and 250$ 6.enjoy!
Ok here’s what I was looking for. That strat. You said something about it’s not your favorite or something. Correct me if I’m wrong if you ever see this since it’s 2 yrs old but I’m not even a single coil player. I use Suhr Doug Aldrich pups. But you always sound great on this strat. But it’s a different video I’m looking for with this strat. I think.
I agree with you. There's a punchiness to the Kemper that I like. The Axe that I played was a little smoother, and compressed. Sounded great, but I liked the extra rawness that I think the Kemper was giving me.
Nice Strat. Can I ask what Strat it is? And also goes without saying all your videos sound great. You need to make house calls. Would a 3,000 mile trip be too far to make my kemper sound better. I have it sounding just ok. When u use the sagging I can’t get the sag feel I want. And I’ve done all the other stuff. I’m really loving that Strat.
Kirk Mulder you can’t beat a Friedman amp I don’t care what modeler or profiler. SB limited. Worked my way up from taco to SB to limited. Ended the urge for buying any more amps. But still have #GAS for other gear but pretty broke now. I love the Strat Michael is playing and how he gets his tone. Although, I’m a hb user sometimes I get the single coil urge. He’s a great player and knows what he’s doing with all this gear.
Very cool. Do you find the Kemper easier or more intuitive to tweak then an Axefx? I have an Axefx and always get lost in the weeds when trying to do this sort of stuff.
A friend of mine recently got rid of his pedals and sold a couple of his amps and his pretty emphatic that there's virtually no advantage to an actual tube amp anymore for him. Would you go this far? (Obviously you wouldn't because you still have amps) But what might he be not considering?
I picked up my KPA about 2 months ago after going through over 100 pedals and 3 different tube amps looking for the tones in my head that my wallet couldn't buy. I've since sold all of my pedals and 2 of the amps. I'll always keep a couple tube amps around but I can confirm that I haven't even turned my tube amps on since an initial side by side comparison. The main thing to remember is that two different people can profile and amp or rig and you'll get two different sounds depending on mics/DI boxes used, eq settings etc. If you want a '68 Super Lead tone it could take you a while to find the ones that sound right for your rig. All Kempers are capable of capturing any tone, but not every user is capable of capturing the original tone as accurately as others. I will say that Michael Nielsen has the market cornered on great rack preamp profiles and I've bought many of his profiles over at Big Hairy Profiles.

This guitar right here. I really like when you play it.
That definition knob is definitely a great tool for getting rid of that flubbiness.

louderthangod I have the same issue.
So useful...and I don’t even own a Kemp’s! Michael’s insight is vastly underrated.

Mike makes the best Kemper profiles.
Yes much better, sounded to dry before. People like me hated Kempers before they/me understood it, and a great profile definitely helps.
The master has spoken. Thanks for this (and hopefully more)!

Fantastic !!!! Subscribed
Little late to the party. One of the great tweaks is to turn Pure Cabinet off as can make lots of profiles sound similar. In this video, it's on 3.
Yeah, Imma just gonna go ahead and subscribe.
Mike even if u never read my post below can u tell me what Strat (details) that is? I love it.
The change in the sound is amazing with definiton!
Dude! Thanks for the tips!!!
How do you like Kemper vs AxeFxIII? Had two but now I sold AxeIII... sounded not as punchy and natural as Kemper...!
I agree with you. There's a punchiness to the Kemper that I like. The Axe that I played was a little smoother, and compressed. Sounded great, but I liked the extra rawness that I think the Kemper was giving me.
Excellent!

I’ll stick to my Friedman. I think my digital amp days are done.

Can you please do a vid on Positive Bias for IPhone.

Yes. I think the Kemper is much easier to get around. Without a laptop, the Axefx was impossible. But, they are apples and oranges. Different strokes
Did you use the eq before or after? I SEe in the manual you can do it before or after thanks.
Mostly, I'll use the EQ in the "post" position.

Can I send you my kemper? Hehe
Yes, I'd say that's a Stratty tone for sure.
Knob Twerks?? :)
;)
Great "fender" type tone. Love the British sound but it's so overdone. Nobody spends any time on the American type overdrive.
