    One point of clarification - when I say you can copy a rig in point #9 I am referring to the "stack" section which includes the amp, EQ, and cabinet from one profile to another.

    kemper owner of a few years, what I've learnt recently is any tweaks you make to a rig within the "performance" mode does not effect the rig in "Browser " mode, all performances are duplicates of Browser Rigs and when edited leave the original as it is.
    Also never add drive pedals to the front of the kemper, It has a Analogue to digital convertor like a sound card so the drive pedal or anything will clip the signal, add an insert after the input and put your pedal board in there on an insert loop send/return, makes all the difference.

  • @rickoshea4398
    @rickoshea4398 Před rokem

    Many great points, will try a couple that I hadn’t gotten into yet. Couple things learned after 4 years with Kemper.
    1 - Stereo Widener makes the Kemper main outputs sound huge if your FOH is running stereo (or recording). I use in the X slot after the stack.
    2 - Agree with the Gain comment in terms of increasing gain. Increasing over the profiled gain makes it sound very brittle and digital. However, decreasing the gain a bit seems to provide a bit more headroom in the profile. I don’t do it a lot but if a really good sounding profile is too hot, decreasing gain preserves the tone.
    3 - I often copy entire performances to maintain consistency of stomps, effects and morph settings and just paste a new stack section in for the amp/cab.
    4 - in addition to backing up, copy all of your profiles and performances to tour local libraries when using the rig editor. If you booger something up (a performance for example), you can pull it back from the local library without doing a global restore from the backups.
    5 - manage the number of profiles in the browse pool. Like many, I’ve purchased a lot of profiles and grabbed many from the rig exchange. At least for how I’m using mine, it runs better and faster if I keep the number of profiles in the browse pool to 400 or below. You can always get them back from the local library if you copy there first but the premise is you’re not going to use a lot of what comes stock with the Kemper. I dumped around 200 of the originals.

    I use the front panel Gain control only for reducing the gain and that seems to work fine for me. Increasing the gain beyond the original profile doesn't really do what you want, like what you've said. Reducing it is fine as it's a little like dialing back the input which is something the profiler knows how to do, as it's part of the profile - if you know what I mean. I'm terrible at explaining what I'm trying to say here :)

    Hey Zach--a two week newbie here, thanks for this vid. I have a rack version so it's a bit different (no modulation rate and intensity knobs) but I liked your tips. I thought I had done due diligence in seeing if there was any difference between the rack and toaster but I've read that it's not too big an issue. I got a great deal on my Kemper but was dismayed to see the guy shipped it without a power cord! Or bothered to tell me about it-who does that? Wow...Oh well, not that big a deal. The other thing that WAS a big deal was I don't really know what kinds of stuff this guy was playing, but he had only about 80 profiles on it and only about 4 of them had any effects on them! Okay, loud and proud, dry as a bone! (ha ha). Thanks for the advice on the front panel gain knob, good to know about that.
    I knew from research before I even got it that I was going to have to buy the good profiles, why mess around? (as you mentioned as well) I already knew about the fantastic Top Jimi EVH Brown Sound pack (absolutely floored me and started the process of wanting to get the Kemper). The M. Britt and tone junkie ones seem to be excellent, haven't gotten any paid ones from them yet. So I just happened to see the Bert Meulendijk video and thought his samples sounded great. (From the European perspective). Have you used any of his stuff or know anybody who has? Sorry about the novel, definitely excited about finally having the Kemper! Haven't even tried it out with every guitar I have, it- sounds superb with my Strat and Charvel. Subscribed and glad to see you're already over the 1000 subs-appreciate the newbie help!

  • @alienlovesecrets9379
    @alienlovesecrets9379 Před 2 lety +1

    Gain knob: yes, you CAN use it but only to LOWER gain, not to increase it. Basically this is like lowering the volume on your guitar. It is only when you try to INCREASE the gain on the Kemper that the Kemper dies not know how the according amp would react naturally because that gain states above a certain point had not been profiled in the profiling process. But yes, the prifiler knows all the below gain stages up to that specific gain stage the profile was created. I hope this makes sense...

    Hello!! Great video!! Can I ask you a question? My band does around a 100 tunes. My question is that it seems that each rigs output volume to the board is never consistent. Our sound person has to tweak my volume on virtually every song. Any thought on how to level that out so it behaves like a miked amp? Thank you!!

    • @ZachBrobstMusic
      @ZachBrobstMusic  Před 4 měsíci

      Hey Kevin! This is one of the problems with the Kemper IMO and is something that the community has asked for years. However, my recommendation is to plug your Kemper into a DAW and start by comparing profiles/performances and their overall output in terms of decibels. This will give you a solid starting point for ensuring your volumes are consistent.
      Then from there adjust based off "perceived" volume - IE. a clean tone at -6db will feel different than a distorted tone at -6db and adjust by preference!
      Hope that helps get you started!

    One thing to be mindful of is when stepping through performances while connected to rig manager if you randomly turn effects off & on & move to next slot to tweak & then save as a performance; all your other slots in the performance with be saved in that state as well. Take the popular Morgan AC20 rig on Reig Exchange, for example, and experiment with the gain at varying levels whilst tweaking the EQ to taste, with each change, and you'll see that the front gain knob is incredibly powerful and can still sound great whilst transforming your favourite Profiles. Save your favourite Cabinets as presets in the Cabinet section.
    Also, adjusting the Distortion Sense is the same as using the Gain knob...so, never adjust the Distortion Sense, ignore it.

    1:17 - Surely if Kempers ‘clone’ a actual amps then these Controls would very much be like turning the knobs on an amp surely?🤷‍♂️

    • @ZachBrobstMusic
      @ZachBrobstMusic  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes and no. The Kemper profiles how that amp sounds at that exact moment in time with those specific EQ settings in place. When you tweak the Kemper EQ you only need to adjust minor settings to get it sounding like you want. The only downside, is you don't have total freedom like you do with a real amp.

      @@ZachBrobstMusic thank you for both your swift replies May I ask you to elaborate (or maybe do a video?!) On how the KEMPER is “not like a real amp“, please?
      I think comparing the KEMPER on CZcams with a real amp but not bothering with how accurate it sounds & instead on how user friendly it is would be a real coup for a channel like yours…?😉

      @@BeesWaxMinder Definitely can be something that comes out in a future video! A few videos to consider would be some done by Paul Davids where he compares the Kemper and Quad Cortex and also his Matchless/Kemper video.
      I've found that a real amp normally sounds more open and airy when compared directly against the Kemper. The Kemper also tends to add a bit more gain and compress the mid range frequencies a bit. It gets 99.8% accurate but I believe a real amp will ALWAYS sound better when directly A/B'd but the Kemper is dang near perfect enough and I can have any amp I want at the click of a button. Hope that helps!

    What? Gain knob. Not using it is a bit ridiculous. The profiles are such that they records the gain as the amp is profiled louder. People here act like "digital" has a sound. Sheesh, I'm old varnish also has a "tone."

    Brillient unit for it's time and I thought currently. Not a fair comparison but Got an Axe FX 3 last weekend and quickly realised just how far far behind the Kemper is. I had no idea just how much things had moved on. Theres literally nothing the Kemper shines at over what I have now. :/ Should have ditched it like 5 years ago.

    Kemper warning - Be prepared to dive into the downward spiral of tone chasing. You'll spend far too much time chasing tones and effects rather than practicing and writing.

    Why do people always tell the audience to like and subscribe BEFORE the content? What if they do, then the content sucks? As a result, ya get a thumbs down, buddy. Wont even watch your video. Tone Junkie will cover anything you have to say and then some more.

      Honestly, I appreciate the feedback. As a newer channel I haven't found that balance of asking for the help + keeping the viewer engaged. Quite frankly, I ask up front because most people click away from a video sooner than later. However, that's obviously a double edged sword because in order for me to gain subscribers I have to portray value. Thanks again J!
