- In this video, I do what we all should do when out and about taking landscape pictures, try our best!
I created this video at Sango Sands, Durness in Scotland. It's a gorgeous location.
I was there on a week-long road trip recently. I had an excellent time, and I think I have returned with a few decent images too!
Anyways, back to this video. I have photographed here before. Whilst many photographers shy away from previously shot locations, I relish them. I enjoy the extra challenge you encounter.
Returning to old locations mean one of two things... one, you want to reshoot and better your original pictures or two, you want to explore and find fresh compositions, or both of course. For the record, I'm happy to do both!
Anyway, the evening shoot went pretty much as anticipated and I think I managed to grab a couple of half-decent images too!

Hey Gary, love the location and the video, particularly your last long exp shot, and I also like the way you do talk about the settings for each shot and find that so, so helpful. But aside from the 4 minutes you didn't mention your other settings for that last shot and, as a novice with long exposures, I'm really keen to hear the detailed settings to help me improve my shots. Your videos are so informative. Please don't stop, many thanks

Superb area Sango Bay, 1 of the best public campsite,s in the UK. Had sim near Arisaig, trying to grab shot,s between storm,s, some half decent, can do better though. Need weather sealed pro lense,s for Olympus, so expensive though, used your mate,s tip, shower cap,s.
I'm jumping right in at 2:14 to predict that the problem you're hinting about is the very thing that drew you to this composition: the incoming tide. I had a rogue wave knock over my tripod last April. By a miracle (plus great weather sealing and fast action on my part), my R5 survived, although the lens needed replacement. Going back to watch now.
EDIT: well. The exact opposite of what I predicted. I thought the tide was coming in, which would have made that photo epic but also a little risky if you weren't alert. Oh well!

We're a strange lot, us photographers aren't we? The reason I say this is because I'm sure we see things in the landscape that other people just don't see at all! I mean, even during the B roll that you did, I'm seeing compositions, or at least potential compositions all over the place! I'd just like to echo what has already been said by Richie McMurchie, by the way. All your hard work and dedication to this channel is very much appreciated. Merry Christmas mate!
Have you thought of turning 180 degree and photograph the reflections in the wet sand, e.g. at 4:00?
i have tried that little bridge at high tide --- cant seem to get a shot .
