Speech by Chairman - Dr. Ishantha Siribaddana | Java Institute - Convocation 2023

  • Dr. Ishantha Siribaddana, the Chairman and Founder of the Java Institute for Advanced Technology, an ISO 9001:2015 certified institution and the leading software engineering school in Sri Lanka. The institute offers the Software Engineering qualification awarded by UK Awards and Birmingham City University, UK.
    Firstly, he is an outstanding entrepreneur, consultant, and scientist whose work in entrepreneurship development and development banking in cooperative sector has earned widespread recognition. He is a leader in the field of software engineering and made significant contributions to the industry and society. Dr.Siribaddana earned his first degree and postgraduate qualifications from the University of Colombo and completed his doctorate in Software Engineering at the IIC University of Technology.
    Secondly, he serves as the Chairman and Founder of the TEMCO Development Banking Society Limited in Sri Lanka. TEMCO is the first ever development banking society to be established in over 115 years of cooperative history in Sri Lanka, with the primary objective of developing technology entrepreneurship management for sustainable development in Sri Lanka.
    Lastly, Dr Siribaddana is also a highly respected consultant in the field of monetary policy. He is a Former Consultant of the Monetary Policy Consultative Committee (MPCC) of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
    Dr Siribaddana holds government positions as a board member of the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka (VTA). He introduced NVQ 5 in ICT level 5 program to VTA and implemented the online examination platform to conduct the exams for NVQ level 5 ICT.
    He also holds the position of board member at the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA),
    Dr Siribaddana was also a member of a 3-member committee to write the National Plan of Action for Children (NPAC) in Sri Lanka for the period of 2012-2016. The NPAC is a government-led initiative aimed at improving the well-being of children in the country and was funded by UNICEF. As a result of the committee's suggestions, technical subjects were introduced to the curriculum of national schools later."
