It may be DWOFS, but I’m glad that DWOFS is a part of my world. You’ve provided endless entertainment and dropped knowledge on us over the years. Helped me and many others setup our instruments. Hope things go well with PT.✌️
The owner should be using heavier gauge strings if he wants to tune down a full step, wouldn't be as floppy.
I just wanted to say "Thanks", I found your channel yesterday and have watched a few videos since. I'm 68, legally blind with a heart condition. I play guitar, and I wanted to say I find your tutorials interesting along with entertaining. Keep it up! Cheers.
Interesting stuff about the maple grain, I would not have known to look for that.
For real. And I feel like a lot of buyers look for that intentionally because it looks nice, especially on roasted necks.
@@12to3Guitars Yes, everyone wants to know what an adult male "feels like."
The grain arches are referred to as cathedrals. Very typical of flat sawn lumber.
I'll remember that now, I was thinking "tongues"
No it isn't.
"I bought a f*ckin Mazarati and left it in the driveway for 8 winters" hahahahaha Dave you're a f*ckin legend
Great job! Agree on neck wood quality being important, definitely check when buying😊. The grain on client’s bass is obviously slabsawn. (As opposed to quarter-sawn) Slabsawn can be perfectly OK, but the maple needs to be dense & high quality in the first place.
Well said!
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff It was poorly said.
Ain’t nothing like trying to set one up for “Double Drop Qb”.
Cheers and be good to each other! Great words to live by.
I think that's one of the things that keeps me watching. Nice to be reminded that there's supposed to be a standard.
@@kneedeepinthedoomed Only a real tard would need to be reminded.
You are the Rock Doctor! Thanks for all the awesome videos!
Dave, I'll always watch till the end cause I can't even tie my own shoe laces, I barely trust myself with toast. Thanks for the vids as always!
I knew there’d be a part 2 to this adventure. 😎🎸

It needs way thicker strings for that tuning. Unless he wants fret buzz or an action like a Sears catalog guitar from the 80's.
only dave and the magic heat press could make this guitar work. your bill is on the way!
Those Hipshots are the licensed models which are made in Korea. Not as high quality as the US.
I have never seen a fender neck that was quarter sawn. What Dave is showing is run out. Trees have to be very large diameter to get annular rings that are straight enough to get quarter sawn. If you choose a neck that was flat sawn you want to see medulary ray on either side that shows perfect simmetry .
My AM pro 2 P behs has those very thin growth rings in succession down the whole neck where the branch grew. The lakland neck looks like it's near the outer bark.
Nice haircut. I like it.
Those import Laklands can be as much as like $2000. Crazy.
Great video!
Good job Dave!
Great video.
Shit Dave now I gotta look at all my guitar necks....sheesh. Have a nice wknd.
Is that push pull an active/passive preamp switch? Might be that in passive mode it doesn't need the 9v, which may be why there wasn't a battery in it. Great work as usual!! I've learned more about setup from your videos than anywhere else combined. Thank you!!
I'm impressed you were thinking about why there was NOT a battery, I missed that trick!
My MIK Lakland 5502 has a similar looking neck which twisted. Thanks for showing what to look for in maple necks, made me look at all my basses 😅
Yeah and ouch on that neck wood grain. My Ibanez SR300EB remarkably has a quarter sawn neck in addition to it having a five layer laminated neck. I still have to barely breathe on the double action truss rod adjustment as compared to my Jackson JS3 Spectra Bass with it having two graphite reinforcement rods in it. However,my basses live in their cases when not being played. Of course I keep my basses in playing condition. Thanks to you for all the knowledge and wisdom I've gained from watching your videos.
You can do it Dave😅
I see your assistant is back 😅
Sweet water people told me quarter sawn neck stock is too expensive!!
What do now?
Ok, I learned a little about sawn lumber by watching this job. I hope I understood, there are diagrams about slab and quarter sawn blanks, and where the circular rings show the place and angles made by the cuts. Since it's new info to me, I can't comment more, but I am about to buy an instrument and will be talking to a friend who's a carpenter about this. Thanks Dave
My friend is a doctor who helps people with loose stool.
I was in a band that used Drop B and C# standard tuning. For my 5 string bass I had to tune all the other strings except for the B, down 1-1/2 steps. Screwed the tension up on the neck and caused it to twist to the side. Never again...
Hey!
Ho!
That guy should use a heavier gauge string set if he wants to tune down a whole step. The B should be .135 or .130 it won't flop like that .125 does just saying......lol
This made me go check the necks of all my guitars. I'm ... maybe I shouldn't buy any import guitars anymore. My Fullerton G&L is the ONLY one with the grain running straight down the entire neck. Heh. I wonder how some of my other stuff lasted that long.
I tune down for bragging rights
I am going to be in TO first week of august but I don't think I am going to have time to buy you lunch. Maybe next time.
I mean, free to be you and me and all, but isn't the point of a 5-string that you don't need to tune down? But what do I know? I call the 5th string a "thumb rest."
That's what I was thinking. If low B isn't low enough, what are they playing?
Do ya? Do you "mean?"
@@TSB-pg6yo Fuck yes.
What music was in the opening? More original stuff I’m sure. But is that you playing all of the parts? 🎸
It's called "Glistening Vulva" by Dick Nasty.
Did you make that tool or is it available somewhere for purchase?
copied an existing unit from the 80's made by Aria czcams.com/video/JhtUAYYn9WU/video.html
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff thank you!!
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff I copied my unit into a girl's brownhole once.
Flat sawn lumber. That neck may be OK now but it ain’t gonna stay that way. If you buy something cheap you get something cheap. You are a hell of a technician Dave but short of getting a quality neck there’s no fixing it.
Yes there is.
fix my guitar then install these strings and tune it down so it won't play right 😂 Is guy in a death metal band?
Proves that just because it says "Lakland" on the headstock it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be awesome.
Dave, I know you don't respond to comments anymore, perhaps stop reading them altogether. Much better for your soul.
Too many haters
Might get flamed for it but one guy is only coming here to be a heel. Every video you can see him getting on everyone’s last nerve, Dave included.
I’m sure he’s the guy that Dave wishes would find himself another hobby, perhaps actually practicing their guitar instead of making spammy comments on the interwebs.
Still the same neck, why won't it happen again?
because it doesnt if you adjust truss rod in the future cause the last guy didnt
gfo
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff It still won't work.
Not a fan of the import Laklands. I have seen a few with neck issues.
No 9 volt batteries? Cànada.
They still have tails up there, what did you expect?
...tell guy tune standard and buy a Drop Box...rubber band floppy solved
The patient needs plenty of bed rest in order to get a full recovery. 😮
No.
