Black is a singer from Liverpool whose real name is Colin Vearncombe. The song had a mediocre launch, but critics adored it and it was relaunched a year later with huge success all over the world including the UK. He died in a road traffic collision in 2016. He was 53. The song is from 1986 but has a retro vibe. The music video is very artistic. It was filmed in Southport, Merseyside, as well as Wallasey near Liverpool. It was directed by Gerard De Thame, and won an award at the New York Film Festival in 1988. A great choice for your channel.

First released in 1986 under an indie label called Ugly Man Records. This caught the attention of A&M Records who re-released a tweaked version in 1987 that you hear in the video. The award winning video was shot by Gerard De Thame on location at Southport and New Brighton in Wallasey.
Colin sadly died on 26.01.2016 as a result of his injuries from a car crash near Cork, Ireland.

There was an Eastern bloc country, I cant remember which, but when they broke free from the USSR, the first song they broadcasted across their newly independent radio was this song. It strikes a nerve in people. It truly is an amazing song and R.I.P. Colin. He died in a tragic car accident in 2016

Funny how so many people don’t get the irony that Colin put in the song. He wrote it when he had a pretty bad moment in his life and didn’t mean it literally but as a way to express how he felt.
