  • Hello,
    This is my epic journey through the classic old Minecraft modpack called Gregtech: New Horizons aka GTNH
    But instead of playing it in a normal world, I'm playing it in a void world starting out with nothing...
    Yup!
    Literally, NOTHING!!!
    The challenge is called "Garden of Grind"
    I'm playing and recording this through the Prism Minecraft modpack Launcher.
    *here's a link to the .pdf if you're crazy enough to give this challenge a go for yourself(updated!);

    Thanks for watching me suffer lols!

    just a little advice about the experience berries, there is no benefit to waiting till stage 4 to harvest them. They yield the same amount of berries on stage 3 due to them being poorly coded by the mod author; furthermore, you do not need to place skeleton skulls underneath them as it literally does nothing despite the tooltip saying otherwise. Considering the amount of Iron you can get at the moment, you could make a Railcraft Iron Tank to store Steam. This way the tank will act as a kind of Battery for your machines, so the boilers can store up extra steam and then you can use multiple machines at the same time with less boilers.
    And a tip for when you progress further into Steam and even LV age. get a bigger room and don't build yourself into a corner. Plan out the machines you can use on the same wire and Steam Turbine since there is Cable loss (you lose EU/t the further your cables go). I usually clump all my machines together and then find out I am out of space to expand comfortably.
    Also the biggest Tip I could ever give in a GregTech modpack is. Always check Chunk Borders when building GregTech Multiblocks. as they can void recipes if the machines stop working, and being in 2 chunks at the same time causes some wierd stuff to happen. So always keep your multiblocks Chunk Aligned as a rule of thumb :D
    ps. Loving the content you put out

    Very important: you can force a direction of pipes for fluids and items, this prevents things going back and is less laggy when the system become big, it should be shift+right click on the pipe. That overlay with the little boxes you see when you hover a wrench on a pipe helps you in choosing the direction.
    I suggest you try to make the tinker smeltery multiblock as it can break down armors with the same efficiency as macerators and you can cast the molten metal to ingot directly. It requires lava to function so maybe a nether portal should be next big milestone to reach. I honestly don't know what would be the fastest way to lava production in a gregtech skyblock
    There is an advanced version of each steam machine and some multiblock machines that use steam too
    For generation, the solar boiler is good as it is passive and the only annoying thing is that it slowly calcifies and loses efficiency, breaking and replacing it fixes the problem (with a wrench remember :D ). Again, if you can make lava, it is a good source of energy.
    In general, a higher tier machine is more efficient than a lower tier machine and multiblocks are better than single block machines.
    If you need a charcoal production, the charcoal pit is somewhat easy to make, it requires a lot of bricks which might be a problem for a skyblock world.
    I think you should use the rewards from the quests since they aren't that special. You could make an arbitrary rule that the loot bags must be opened only if upgraded (which needs an item corresponding to that loot bag type and a fortune III book) as a way to limit their hypotetical power. GTNH is one of the most balanced packs in regards to Quest Book balance and all the trades have a cooldown, especially the important ones, and are unlocked after you should have no problem aquiring that item, especially for the tech parts. The coins seem OP but the quantity of items you get becomes progressively more negligible the more you go on. They are ther just to smooth out the experience a bit.

    @jeffbarnes2834 Před měsícem +4

    Keep in mind with GTNH that there are often times multiple Machines that can output the same item. In some cases one machine will give you a higher yield than another. Checking nei is an important part of GTNH. For example, 1 obsidian block into a macerator = 1 obsidian dust. If you put that same obsidian in a alloy smelter with a ingot mold, you'll get 8-9 obsidian ingots that can then be macerated into 8-9 obsidian dust. This will be important tip down the line ;-)

Recycle the chainmail armor in a macerator, after which it can be smelted in a tinkers' smeltery and poured into ingot casting molds. Well, you will likely need more that one water tank, so it's not wasted. Also, solar boiler OP. And your steam room is a bit tiny + steam machines do not need to be covered. So when you will be building LV room, consider something bigger, a way to access at least 2 sides of a machine easily (often top+bottom) and a compartment for all the wire mess you will inevitably have.
    Some of the first machines you want to make are forge hammer (better plate recipe), compressor you need to make a forge hammer, and I'm not sure, but alloy smelter might give you better bronze recipe, and you will need a lot of bronze.
    What you want to consider doing if you get reasonable amount of iron (several stacks at least) is RC tank to buffer steam you are making with solar boilers.

    With iron now being dirt cheap (tho I suppose dirt is not so easy to come by...) It's definitely in your best interest to get a railcraft iron tank multiblock to buffer steam, it will be immensely helpful until you get a better steam source.
    While it is good practice, there's no need to protect the steam machines from the rain, it's the electric ones that are at risk. Regardless, the water tanks produce more water when uncovered, and you do NOT want to get short on water while a boiler is hot , EVER
    The way fluid pipes work is somewhat unintuitive compared to other mods!
    You can configure any pipe block with a wrench using right click on different parts of the block.
    Right click connects or disconnects the affected side and Shift right click prevents fluid entering from that side, but still let's it exit trough it, otherwise fluids can just go back and forth through the pipes, so it's common practice to wrench all pipes.
    Remember to take breaks and have a good day!

    You should've made the steam forge hammer before the compressor, since it converts ingots into plates 3 to 2 instead of 2 to 1
    Edit: pardon me, i didn't realize you couldn't craft the iron blocks without the compressor

      If you want to macerate a bunch of stuff at once you could use a steam macerator multiblock(forgot it's name)
      It should do 8 at a time, though i'm unsure if it works with unstackable items like armor
      You could also make a steam oven multiblock which smelts 8 at a time
      Alloy smelter can help you make bronze at a more favorable rate

      From what I know, the bees can only be started by using quest rewards, this is something I’m staying clear of.
