Please somebody buy the 3 rotor from Rob Dahm he is the worst owner in history and that car deserves somebody that knows what they are doing not this ass which decks everything up!!!!
i'll give rob a dollar per rotor
😂
The 3-rotor is the unfortunate lab rat for the 4-rotor lol.
at least he is doing work himself, he can clearly afford to get someone else to do it, yet he does it himself...respect
Lol, he wired it himself and was running what 900hp for how long?? You couldnt afford that car bro.
Cheap carbon doors, at 11.08 you can clear see chopped strand fibreglass mat on the inside. So they are a carbon fiber outer skin over GRP doors.
Yup, probably just normal fiberglass with a carbon weave laid over it for rigidity and being carbon. True molded carbon is absurdly expensive.
That's seibon for you
Saw that too, looked to see if someone else saw it, and someone had!
Carbon skinned anything is cringe.
Being reinforced with fiberglass does not make the door trash at all. Overpriced? Sure...but still completely viable. Fiberglass is stronger than Carbon Fiber.Watch this to see the difference between CF & FG:czcams.com/video/KHXVf0SaJpAI/video.html would be pissed if I had paid for a CF door and got one like this, but he got a door for the price of...drum roll...a door. Nothing wrong with this at all - but mostly because he got a decent deal. You couldn't make a door for 500 bucks.
Nothing to get your heart pumping like parking lot purchases. Are you going to get murdered, are the parts stolen, are you going to get robbed...tune in next time if you make it !
lmaooo couldnt describe it more perfectly
Somebody will steal just the door.
Ayyyeeee lmao
Lmao
I see you on Cleetus and Jeremy's channels all the time. You are EVERYWHERE.
11:05 Thats not a carbon fiber door. It's a glasfiber door with a layer of carbonfiber ontop to make it look like carbon.
nope, just chopped strings.. this happends to me all the time when dealing with fabrics, whats better to do with excess material than using it on actual part
eXViLs - 8B008B I've only worked with glasfiber but I've seen others work with carbonfiber and I've only seen that pattern on the inside of the door from glasfiber chop mat. Carbonfiber from what I've seen always woven and the stuff on the inside is definitely not woven.
eXViLs - 8B008B it’s a top layer of carbon with glass chopped everywhere else.
That is absolutely glass fiber.
3 rotor needs a cage in it like last year. Should get one for the power you pushing threw it
You would probably have better luck making the FD lighter if you went to the gym. No amount of carbon fiber is going to save it.
Lmaoooo 😂
FD is already light as feather, further weight reduction would be spaceframe instead of it's body.
LMFAO
You would probably save more weight cleaning up all the excess wiring. Lol
@@hailstorm7868 it already got an spaceframe, the carbon parts are for the 4 rotor
Dude .Be careful with all those crazy was California drivers. The doors are sick but not having crash bars in the doors is a little terrifying. Carbon gets stronger the more pressure you put on it but for crash resistance Kevlar would help big time. I can make you some crash bars out of Kevlar for free if you need them. Just message me. Keep up the good work.
Maybe he just needs a roll cage in his 1000hp car...
Thank you James, very cool
Rocco **** wait is he actually not having a cage in it?
james hanna please he’s in a 90’s car he’s not better off with the stock door to even matter.
Who told you carbon gets stronger the more pressure you put into it? The yield strength, which is the tensile strength, by definition, can *not* change with stress...
Rob dealing carbon fibre doors in a car park....
Speed is a drug. And I am an addict
Speed is a drug.
Door...
Rob Either Didnt Think That Through Or Maybe He Actually Is Addicted To Speed 🤔
To be honest , Rob, you cant call your new door a cf door, as on 11:10 you can clearly see it was made out of fiber glass + 1 one lair of cf on top. Also it was made without vacuum.... What does that mean to you: real cf door will be 20-30% lighter and more then 50% stronger. IMHO door you have cant cost more then 300$ as there is only one lair of cf and it is the most expensive after work in this things.
Mansory vehicles use make some beautiful carbon cars. That's not a carbon fiber door it's fiberglass with carbon fiber skin
@ 11:07 "This car has carbon fiber", Is tapping on fiberglass.....
🤣 died when you said this isnt ChrisFix's channel.
you should really only do this if you have a caged car with bars in front of the door
WHOSE 77 CELICA IS THAT?
i would also like to know.
@@brucepoland6518 Not sure people want them now. When nobody wanted them 20 years ago. There is nothing special about them either other than they whole a fair amount of boost when modified. Seems to me you want to avoid smog regulations whenever possible. Further proof how nearfield human beings tend to be.
@@dj4monie considering that the first generation celica has a really big following and they are getting hard to find a lot of people care for them. I also own a 74 celica. what does smog have to do with anything? There is no smog laws where I live so that doesn't even matter what so ever. Also its holds boost.
i just love the look of that car, put a 1jz into it and it would be a really good little car
Anthony Thomas the novelty of seeing something that old makes them cool.
11:05 anyone else notice thats a glass fibre material, either its carbon front, glass back or thats not a carbon fibre door my friend haha.
They have chopped carbon fiber too. Js
This man literally owns the worst Rx7 in history
the ctsv part had me dying
Jared talking shit throughout is great. Definitely keep this up
That's the same guy that has two right side carbon fiber for the RX-7 FC on eBay for $999 you can actually buy the set from the Japanese website that makes them for $300 more for the complete set right and left
300 for other cars aswell?, if so what website is it?
@@umerafzal482 go on Google type in carbon fiber doors and fenders for RX-7 there's only a handful websites it's all in Japanese so you got to use Google translate
@@umerafzal482 eventually I'm going to get a set for my FC the doors and fenders fenders are 1,300 to 1500 depends on what style and then the doors are 2400 plus shipping it's all pricey but it's worth it
Goes to cleetus new video, watch entire thing
Goes to Rob Dahm new video, leaves before he finishes his com
Then why click??
I just love commenting and subscribing. Carbon fibre is the love of my life.
If using carbon doors I would DEFINITELY have a roll cage.
Well to be honest I just can't get enough of these vids. Keep them rolling rob you legend
I love subscribing and commenting.
Bubba Bear dont forget liking
your 3 rotor videos kick ass good seeing great videos from you again. channel is back to being fun again!
Blacked out one side had me dying 😂😂😂
Jared was on point with the roasts lmao
Nice Celica 2000 gt you got there, dam i love the look of that car
I thought it was one of those but wasn't sure
I don’t know why but the way you just clunked that bolt driver onto the bolt head made me cryyyyy laughing lmao ten energy drinks sounds accurate u looked like u just did a big bump 😂😂😂
Next video:
“Now I need to re-align my fenders, headlights, and bumper”
If you’re worried about a side impact just cage it finally. Added weight but added security
i love that subtle making fun of the drama most of the other big youtubers make.
lool thumbs up to the new cameraman this duo is awesome
Please find someone to build some kevlar bracing and possibly a better made door(s) for the 4 Rotor.
I vote for Rob Dahm playing a Rx7 Guy in Fast and the Furious!!!!!!!!!!
Jared deserves a raise for roasting you.
The celica in the back looks 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!!!!!
I love your videos Rob, Just the suttle parts that your talking about are interesting! Cant wait to see the 4 rotor on the road!
Death trap!? Rob, I think you mean the COOLEST coffin ever
I just started watching your videos and I already love them
hahaha the one sided carbon door strip adds character.
Door hinges are a rotating joint. Therefore by lightening the doors you have reduced the total moment of rotational inertia of the vehicle.
This is very important for a rotary.
I cant tell if your serious or not
I felt the same way about my seibon trunk on my RX-8. Fits great but it definitely feels more fragile and needs a good 2 hand push to actually lock with the latch. I don’t regret buying it, it does save a decent amount of weight (unlike the hood which actually added weight, but it has those super sweet vents for cooling, so it’s not a completely ass backwards “upgrade” lol)
On the 4rotor you could use/built something like the Ferrari F40 internal door handle
Rob is the ultimate half asser when it comes to cars
Some good points Rob!
Function first the aesthetics.
Rob, go on Tim McAmis Racing yt channel and he has a whole series about Carbon race parts , even how much carbon parts weigh in comparison to fiberglass. He also shows how to spot crappy carbon work vs really good work like his own(yeah he loves himself lol). He makes full carbon drag race bodies so this guy knows what he is doing.
Get electrostatic speakers for the 4rotor... they weigh way less than normal speakers and tweeters
Rob and Garrett seem like the two kids that would argue with each other about cars at the lunch table.
That's why you do 6pt or more Cage with side bars along with CF doors.
Rob just make a cage with door bars that go into the door a bit for the side protection if you said your planing on making custom doot cards
take a shot of tiquilla for every "there" and or "there you go" hahaha
rob your videos are so much fun, that celica looks mint too.
It's hard to watch, but i cant stop watching haha
Will you install a full cage on the car? FRP\Carbon doors aren't a smart weight reduction move without a decent, fia or scca compliant cage.
Morning shit and a fresh dahm video sign me up!
I really appreciate you making the 3 rotor a budget build
Brilliant Rob, we following you to the end where you hit turn the piston world up side down
just a heads up, those labels you made will go black from heat exposure and UV light. I had a few I made for my sound system and they faded out from the sun hitting them.
Carbon fiber body parts are usually to race, drift etc., if you wont install a cage in it, good luck on staying alive. Btw the fitments doesnt have to be precise since on a racetrack you wont need electric windows, crash bars or interior.
Rob's logic: Will I put it in my 4 rotor? No. Does it fit the 3 rotor? Definitely yes.
If anyone wants to do this, a full roll cage is mandatory. I plan on doing it to a ek civic hatch. Also get your wiring done by a professional it's worth the extra cash, and isn't as bad of a cost as paying someone to do work on your engine
When he zooms in robs face 😂💀
That door likes like it’s mainly fibreglass and has maybe 1-2 layers of carbon. You can tell from the inside of the panel, a lot of companies do this to save money.
"Checks inside doors of my 92 peugeot 205"
"Sees nothing but thin as razor blade metal outer skin"
Chuckles!
I'm in danger !
If it makes you feel better, jeep wranglers doors are composite and hollow, like they dont have anything to protect you in an accident inside the door. Or at least thats what I understood from reading the warning label lol
“I thought about it for 4 years” 😂😂
I think seibon sells a pair of those, might be worth looking into that
The reverse R8 was a good one
Having the past 2 weeks of putting carbon doors on my s2k... A LOT of modification needed to get them to look close to stock fitment
Rob make sure you get those doors cleared. I know they have a uv coating on them already but adding another coat of clear will greatly extend the life of them.
It makes sense to do it on the driver side only to offset the weigh of the driver and get the car more left-right balances. Also it looks like fiber glass chop on the inside, no carbon....
We all know carbon fiber is indestructible, you'll be safe rob!
I recommend the street faction door cars for the 4-rotor. (Has optional speaker cutouts as well)
If I did a raw carbon door id do a carbon design on the body to let the lines blend in better. Technically it's adding weight but it'd look much better and more thought out.
"oh Rob's trying" lmao
there is special transparent bondo for CFRP. you don't need it if you mold is perfect, but it exists
5:03 "Dose not that note look weird to you, br0?" haha too many redbulls?
Wish I could keep up the increased uploads but I watch when I can, it's really moving along :)
Getting fenders and doors off is always a PITA, there's always another bolt...the CF looks sauuucy!
I love how he's like "this car's going to kill me, let's make it kill me even faster"
Guess someone should let you know they will flex open past 150 mph, at 180 their open like 4” I got rid of mine because they look like shit unpainted and are only 6lb lighter than oem door without intrusion bar
Thank you for the plug, the cars copper FYI 😘 miss your dm’s
Is it possible to put the outter carbonfiber skin on the metal door even that don't makes it lighter you have then carbonskin for the 4 rotor ? sry if it is a dumb question
Whose 1st-gen Celica is that? I'm in love.
And the verdict is... don’t buy carbon fiber door. I have thought about doing this for years and you just made the decision for me. Thank you so much Rob!
Actually the verdict is, don't buy fibreglass doors with a layer of CF on it. Also hi quality CF doors don't go at 500 bucks a piece.
Seibon is around 2600 for a set of 2. He just wasted 500 dollars.
I lost it when he calls you out on the CTS-V
Hey rob, do you think the roll cage would take most of the blow
All Carbon doors seem to be like this. OEM parts from Porsche for the Cayman GT4 had similar or even worse fitment. Same with the AMG GT3. So much had to be done to get the body lines right.
I can guarantee that double sided tape would hold that weather stripping in. To prove a point to a friend a couple years ago I took the screws out of my license plate and taped it to the bracket with two 1" x 2" strips of heavy duty 3M double sided tape and it's still there. Shit's crazy yo
Rob trying to compensate for the amount of bondo on that bumper haha
4 years... 4 rotary years, 4 tears for those years.
Gotta factor in glass and honge adjustments and with a latch and those adjustments it should be great
aluminum i think would be next best thing in lightweight i think.
I hear titanium as well.
but custom made by machine shop since they don’t sell i think
Lol I mean this with no disrespect Rob because I watch your channel everyday and love it. Most people would pick the Lamborghini but my dream car is a 3 rotor RX7 and now you're going to have a 4 rotor. Ugh I'm jealous. But after seeing your wiring and the CTS with half carbon fiber on one side, you do things so half-ass it's funny. LOL You really do have such nice things though. I'm going to get another Rx-7 after I finish restoring my 03 Mazdaspeed turbo protege. It is a fun car but I'm going with all forged internals and a clutch upgrade then new paint. It's all original and they only made 600 in spicy orange. Plus it has a little sentimental value.
Can’t wait to see the 4 rotor build completed!
I've seen the same comment 7 years ago.
Holsenback I think people will go to Mars before the 4rotor will be completed
Exposed carbon fiber is a trend that needs to stay in 2018 going into next year
I honestly fucking love your channel Rob.
Comparing an empty door to a fully loaded door.
That was very informative
Every time the FD gets a extreme mods, i always think that its going to be a track car
Good luck putting that back together
Have a body shop remove the crash bar and glue it into the carbon door. Or remove the crash bar and use it to make a mold and make a new crash bar out of carbon.
DR Bowen nope, side impact bar needs to be metal, welded to the hinge support on one end and the anti burst door catch mechanism on the other, that way each end is welded in to a hard point and the middle can be bend to absorb some of the impact.
@@ForeverNeverwhere1 So would the only way to do it safely be to make a skin of door then cut out as much metal as possible and glue skin to existing frame?
DR interior door frame doesn’t really matter, composite doors need bracing on the inside for both the anti burst catch and the hinge, and both need to be properly braced across to each other with a welded or bolted on door bar. That way if there is a side Impact pushing the door bar inwards, the hinges and anti burst catch, as well as the metal around them, start to take some of the strain and deform too. Needs to be metal so it has sufficient strength when bending on intrusion, carbon and GRP composites can be strong, but they crack and splinter when bent beyond their breaking point. Kevlar fibre reinforced materials have great side load strength, but then the bond will probably fail where it attaches to the catch and hinge areas. I have a friend makes all carbon race car doors, mostly Ferrari challenge stuff, but he is adamant there needs to be a full cage instead.
this video saved me money. thank you rob.
Can't tell you how many times I've done "hey why not" fun projects that go nowhere.
