I genuinely feel like these April Fools updates are just the devs getting the chance to test out their creative concepts that they couldn't fit into a regular update schedule (like how last years april fools update added size commands and stuff, which were added to the base game). I would not be surprised if those village stair paths were implemented into vanilla at some point.

I like to think of April Fools snapshots this way, i think it makes sense!
It seems like a "code jam" where people get together and code a bunch of random stuff to test out or just have fun with, without the stress of needing it to be perfectly balanced or mesh perfectly with the base game and other potential features etc
That's why they often come off as very similar to mods, they may fit one theme and have nothing to do with anything else in the game, and its totally fine because its a joke snapshot and not an actual update
But i can definitely see things like:
      -village stairs
      -grappling hook
-obviously fletching table use please Mojang its been so long
-End update maybe, with the more vertical terrain like the potato dimension has
-paintings differentiated by size?? Or maybe even just separating the paintings and giving them proper names
-Bedrock has the ability to place blocks "in the air" off another block, without having to look at the face of the block, maybe the Floatato was practice for doing that in Java??
Im sure there are more, maybe even the mobs were practice for something in the future idk
But we do know that some April Fools features get into the base game, so i guess this is just how i make sense of all that

Agreed. If this were chorus fruit and an end biome update, so many of the gimmicky mechanics start to become quality of life improvements... Notably, craftable elytra, new flying mechanics, new form of travel(grappling hook, potato cart), improved single-block portal system (similar to end gateways), new boss as well as potion-style thorns system which would make combat interesting. I too don't think these features are dead-ended.

I’d absolutely would love to have green wood.

  • @humourlessjester3584

I think one reason why we aren't getting new wood types so often are a few things:
    1. They need a place to naturally be. Adding a new wood type either means to add it to a new biome or add it to existing biomes, and given mojang's track record I think they would rather have the former. So adding new wood also means designing an entirely new biome for said wood.
    2. Inventory management: new wood also means 12 new and individually craftable items. It just adds to player complaints about the current inventory issues the more items they add so they might rather want to space woods apart while there is no current other inventory solutions.
    3. Hampering Player expectation: if they add new wood types every update, players will expect wood types every update. To a point where there will be online riots if they decided to focus their attention to themes that don't necessarily have anything to do with wood.

I actually think the Poisonous Potato Update is the BEST April Fool's Update there is from Minecraft. It not only has the nonsensical charm of April 1st, but unlike previous ones like the Infinite Update, there is actually a lot of good genuine ideas and concepts that I would LOVE to see get adapted into an actual Update. We have been requesting a couple of things that can shape Minecraft in the following ways.
*1.* Functionality to the *Fletching Table* . We had this block be used ONLY for Iron Farms and Villages since 1.14. The Smithing Table was there too but got changed with functionality since 1.16. I think the Fletching Table would be perfect for not only making different Arrow Types, but also potentially good for making the different Fireworks designs... at the moment, you would have to experiment with different Charges and sorts which can complicate things for just a visual perspective. If they can update the Fletching Table, that means features that were part of betas are not out of the cards for Mojang. We got Frogs years later after they have lost the Biome Vote. Bye the way - bring back Biome Votes.
*2.* Concepts for an update to *The End Dimension* . It hasn't been changed since 1.9 and a LOT of us has been requesting to give its own update to match the quality that we got from The Nether from 1.16. The Main End Island should remain as it is, but the Outer End Islands (or End Highlands for some if you are Scottish) "needs a bit more flavor" in the environments and biomes department. It doesn't have to include things from what the now deceased _Minecraft Dungeons_ has, but good enough that we will WANT to be revisiting the Strongholds again in the near future. The scale of 1.21 being small has kinda makes me feel optimistic that 1.22 might be coming this year as well to celebrate 15 Years of Minecraft... and The End is a BIG part of Minecraft. True, last time was 2021 with the Caves & Cliffs Updates (1.17 and 1.18), but that is 3 years ago! And the scales of both updates in terms of features were big enough to be split into two small updates. 1.21 feels that same size in features as with 1.17. It would make sense why a lot of the announcements for 1.21 were happening a bit later and the wrap up of the new features happening rather sooner than the name of the Update. I have a feeling that on the Day of the Anniversary, that is when they'll announce that 1.22 will be releasing Winter 2024 instead of Summer 2025 that many would assume. If you are going to celebrate a milestone, you gotta make it interesting enough to keep the retention with the audience. If you compare to 1.20 or 1.19 with 1.21, they are surprisingly medium sized compare to what we got.
If 1.16 was The Nether Update to celebrate 10 years, 1.22 likely become The End Update to celebrate 15 years... if not, let's see if 20 years of updates FINALLY gives us an overhall to The End.
*3.* Green Wood colour. Minecraft has been leaning into realism for a good while with its Survival aspects. But you know what's been there since the beginning - *_Creative_* ! Seeing a bizarre Green coloured Wood shows that Minecraft can be nonsenical and wacky, which leans into the aspect of the Creativity part of the game. It is the MOST iconic game in the *Sandbox* genre and you can build up impressive structures and go all out in creativity. You don't necessarily need to be a Redstone Genius, but if you can build good custom structure with the resources you have given, you can go all out wild to create your own escapism, and you can show your creativity with your friends and build MASSIVE build projects together. It doesn't have to make ANY sense. We need more blocks that you can find from fantasy biomes or craft the unique blocks and build with them. And if it isn't obvious for us fans in the community, "Wood is Wood and we LOVE new Wood Types with different Wood Colours". A vibrant Green Wood, a Royal Blue Wood, a Purple Wood, a Black Wood, a White Wood, a Grey Wood... you know what - give us World of Colour Part 2 but with WOOD! We will definitely be chucking wood out the windows and hurting beavers in the process. Go wild with the extra elements of what makes Minecraft great for many, and that is to go WILD and get Creative. Minecraft is a *Sandbox* video game overall, so let us go NUTS and build our own experiences. We already have stuff for Map Makers and Creators, now give us something for the Builders and the Explorers to go and build their own dreams with MORE unique blocks.

Maybe a way to make the flotator in Vanilla would be to limit how far it can go by how many you have attached to eachother, so each one can only make the build go a few blocks on their own. Deals with the distance problem while still giving room for use, like with elevators and redstone machines, while not allowing for broken flying machines unless you plan to use all of your flotators for a massive machine.
Another thing, for how to get them, maybe the ingrediants could be gotten from the Trial chambers and maybe elevators could exist in the chambers that give you a way to get around while also allowing you to take them if you want.

  • @GeneralNickles
    @GeneralNickles Před měsícem +1

The floatater could be nerfed to a reasonable push limit and it wouldn't be too OP.
Something like a 10x10x10 cube around the floatater would be a really big area, but not ridiculous. Or maybe even 8x8x8.
Or they could add the slime glue from the create mod, and just have it move everything that's glued together up to a certain number of blocks. Like 200 blocks or something.
Just being able to smoothly move a large structure would be the best thing ever, and we need this yesterday.

With so many features for a joke release does make you wonder how come they had the time to make them all happen. But then you think about what the plan was, and that is just fun. No need to balance anything, no need to consider compatibility with existing worlds, no need to worry about bugs... it was basically a break from the regular development and potentially a testing ground for a few features that have been on their radar but aren't easy to test without people freaking out about them.

I agree, I don't see floaters being in survival Minecraft, certainly not in the way its done in the snapshot. But for Creative/Command use would be great.
The mechanic would be useful to smoothly animate builds, likely with relitive ease.
It would be helpful for map makers to make reliable plantforms, lifts and obstacles.
It may allow solid builds to be off the grid adding further possibilities in building.
There were quite a few nice blocks, but the green planks are certainly notable as they are most likely to be implemented in the base game. I believe the end goal is that they will add trees for each of the 16 different dye colours. Simular to the scraped dyed planks feature. Lime is somewhat represented in Bamboo but I hope thats not the last we will see that colour in planks.
    Oak, Jungle
    White?: Birch
    Brown: Spruce
    Black?: Dark Oak
    Orange: Acacia
    Cyan: Warped
    Magenta: Crimson
    Red: Mangrove
    Pink: Cherry
    Yellow: Bamboo
    Lime?: Bamboo
    White? Black?, Lime?
    Grey, Silver, Green
    Blue, Light Blue, Purple.
Just laying out the woods makes me realise how far they have come since I first came up with that theory (round Neather Update).
