    Just put your foot on the brake and stop before you yank it into high gear . All you need to know .
    You can also grind the dog catches right back too .

    I see way too many people using a heavy gear oil in these splash lubricated transaxles.
    So it's too thick to splash around in the case these parts wear out, esp. the side load shaft bearings & thrust washers & snap rings that hold them together. Use nothing heavier than a 5w-20 or JD hy-gard low -vis, or AGL. No more 80-90, or 75-90. 75w would be ok, remember oil in splash systems has to be thin like most all trans/diff/axels.

      Correct..........Just use AGL and forget about it. Stop trying to be cute and saving a nickel.

    Ate the dogs off the high gear last summer, rebuilt the transmission and added the cryo heat shim. One year later, no high range again.

      The dogs are blowing off the gears, because of one or two reasons.
      Shifting into gear when the transmission is still moving.
      shift linkage or shifter out of alignment, or got bumped. This sometimes can happen in a really bad G out.
      The high speed gear shim is not a device to keep the dogs from blowing out, (most of the time that’s operator error.) the high speed gear shim replaces the snap ring that is not designed for a side load. Our shim gets rid of the snap ring failure issue.

      @@cryoheatmetaltreatment3025 okay. Well, my shift linkage was adjusted correctly after the transmission was re installed, and I never move the shifter while the vehicle is moving. So I'm not sure what's going on. It had issues popping out of gear even right after repair. Maybe something linkage wise inside the transmission is bent or something?

    Looks cool, not my problem, I hope.... the hi was difficult to engage, often grinding on half position till pushed. Now the low left engagement, so ajusted the rods, but the hi seems on low speed.... didnt push it yet.

    I have a noise between acceleration and deceleration which sounds like play in the trans. After seeing this video I have an idea this might be related to this problem? Would it sound like “crunching” when letting off the accelerator if the high speed gear had movement from side to side from a bad snap ring?

    • @cryoheatmetaltreatment3025
      @cryoheatmetaltreatment3025  Před rokem

      Possibly however, you wouldn’t be able to go much further in high gear because eventually they would be a catastrophic failure. The crunching that you hear may be a bearing getting ready to let go. We highly recommend you addressing this issue and fixing it before it could cost you thousands more in damaged parts.

    Would this cause the transmission to make a clunk on take off in high gear only?

    • @cryoheatmetaltreatment3025
      @cryoheatmetaltreatment3025  Před rokem +1

      No, this would not make a clunk on takeoff whatsoever. The high speed gear shim is a device to only eliminate catastrophic failure due to snap ring failure because they are not designed to be sideloaded. By installing the high speed gear shim, the snap ring is no longer needed.

    What a crock. Now you will just shove the bearing into and possibly through whatever pocket it's sitting in.

    • @joshlahaye1102
      @joshlahaye1102 Před rokem

      No, I’m sorry that you’re wrong. The bearing is already being sideloaded from the entire shaft into the bearing race. This high-speed gear shim has never failed, or has the adjacent parts that it is working with. also, the inner bearing race is getting the exact same amount of load without the shim However, the shim replaces the snap ring that is 100% not designed for a side load. When giving a snap ring, significant sideload, it will slide out of the snap, ring groove and cause failure to the high gear.
