Hey! Wonderful talk, and this definitely spoke to me as well.
I think it's super important to let children explore their hobbies, since not only does it make happiness, but often there are career paths in those if you think hard enough about it.
I believe that one reason people are very keen on making you choose a conventional job is because trying to find your passion and pursuing it is terrifying if you haven't already started. But for someone like you, you've already found your passion and developing the skills is something you've already done and continue to do every day without being forced to.
Another thing is that I think a conventional job is something you can definitely learn to enjoy and find meaning and motivation in. However, this is assuming you don't always have one thing lurking in your mind that you'd rather be doing, and would regret giving up knowing you left it out of fear.
And for anyone reading this, if that is also true for you, then it's very likely you can find a more fulfilling direction than what you've been told.
ayy perm I'm here because of your post
Thank you so much for sharing this video in your post.😀
J perm everyone thought that me cubing is just a hobby and I shouldn't take it seriously but I never listened to them and I finally got a 8.95 single , now they don't say "It's just a hobby " Now I will continue my cubing till I become much faster and prove to them that they were very wrong.
All I'm trying to say is if you have a hobby you would like to take seriously , don't let anyone talk you out of it . If you like doing it then continue on no matter what everyone says.
Wow jperm. You wrote an essay.
This was such a great talk! Chris is such an inspiring guy and one of the nicest cubers I’ve ever met, and I’m sure his story will be motivational to lots of people!

Oh hi
People : where will your passion take you
Chris : *YES*
He was always scared of making a speech if he won, but he's making his speech now....
Hi lukas
hes his hus
Lukas Galioto but he’s older and less shy now
"How many rubik's cubes have solved in your life?"
DIO: *"How many loaves of bread have you eaten in your life?"*
I've solved way more cubes than I've eaten loaves of bread... I've done collectively between 150 and 200,000 solves and have probably eaten less than 1000 loaves of bread. That's pretty uncontested

When people say "follow your bliss" they aren't suggesting it is a strategy to make money, they are saying it is the best strategy to be happy, and quite frankly, that's priceless.
Nice speech.

This is an amazing ted talk! I really am happy that a community like this has now reached such a large audience. Chris, if you’re reading this comment, thank you for inspiring others, and following through with your goals. Meeting you at various competitions in the past, I never would have suspected you were in the least bit shy. This Ted Talk, along with Why We Cube, are two amazing examples of passion in the Cubing community, and I’m very thankful you have been able to give us them. To all reading this comment, follow Chris’s advice; do what you’re passionate about, and it will lead you down your path in life!
TheMagicCuber thank you! I always read the comments :)
I appreciate you leaving such nice words! It really does mean a lot. I’m happy to hear what I am doing is impacting other people in meaningful ways!

This was a great talk, excellent job Chris!
Awesome!! This will speak to many people. It's hard to think you were standing by your mom cubing at your first comp to now presenting a super awesome TED talk in a few short years. Congratulations!
This is the most inspirational video I've seen in a very long time. Thank you!
Really enjoyed this ! Very inspiring ! Thanks for sharing ur passion
Congrats man, excited to see how far you've come!
I never would’ve guessed your background. You always came across as the most confident and suave cubing channel on CZcams.
Very inspirational, Chris! You brought up a lot of good points.
Absolutely amazing talk! I could definitely relate to a lot of those situations and I'm sure many cubers can. This story will definitely make anyone motivated and inspired to start speedcubing. At the end, the thing is that if you love something from all of your heart, no matter how society treats you or tries to make you quit it... If you keep going, things will work out just fine. It was very inspiring. Great talk.
A wonderful Ted Talk Chris! It's awesome to see how far the cubing community has come! Spectacular speech and Beautiful Message.
Such a great talk, Chris!
If you hear a cuber saying 3x3 "THE RUBIK'S CUBE" that's rare as a diamond
Luv Wegad he’s not just talking to cubes
There might be people who don’t know much about cubes
When I'm talking to friends etc I say the "Zauberwürfel", meaning the "magic cube" because 3x3 won't tell them anything
@@user-me8hy8ew4o Do you speak German? I do
This was amazing! Thanks for giving me passion and hope!
Cyotheking has come a looooong way from making videos for Cubing World. Love it!

I totally agree that you should follow your passions and don't listen to people who discourage you. Follow your dreams one day you could be popular or even make a career out of it like some people have done. Very inspiring.
Wow just wow Chris. This makes me love you even more
I am a cuber and I watched the whole documentary. Then I saw this and I loved it. Good job Chris! (Cyotheking)

Really Inspiring
little did we know he would be releasing a Netflix documentary next...
Great speech. Really motivating.
Who tells a kid that it shouldn't do it's hobby because it doesn't make money?
But you found your own solution. The great thing about humans being individuals is, that we can live individually and different.
(Btw this speech reminded me of the song "Like everybody else" by "Helloween"... You probably won't know it or the band, but it's great!)
This was very inspirative...
Chris my hero
Great job
One time I saw Chris at a competition. It was the Northeast championships 2018.
Nice talk Chris
"Why We Cube" was really, sooooooo good, too.
