      Hey.
      I’m trying to transfer a ROM to my Steam Deck after setting up EMUDECK.
      I’ve formatted a USB drive using the EMU tool and I’m trying to transfer a NSP file into the ROMS folder of the drive.
      However it always fails and I get this prompt:
      ‘file is too large for the destination file system’
      What am I meant to do to get around this?

    God Tier Video. Had to leave a comment. As a 40-something first time PC gamer (thanks to Steam Deck) your vids have been helpful. Half the fun is getting the emulators to work as well as finding all the ROMS and BIOS. Barely even have time to play, but like I said, the set-up is half the fun and I'd be lost without videos/tutorials like these on the youtube/reddit/net. Thank you!

    Something you didn't mention but I found helpful.
    In the rom manager there is an exceptions section. This is a feature precisely for fixing incorrectly titled/imaged games.
    If you have a rom that has been incorrectly scraped you can add an exception entry for the filename, then choose what the title should be, the name the scraper should be searching for, or even better an ID for steam grid db so it can be explicitly told what rom info to populate for your rom.
    For example say you have a rom named "timesplitters 1 - PS2.iso" but the rom manager thinks it's "Timesplitters Future Perfect". You can add an exception entry with the following settings:
    Extracted title (what the rom filename is): timesplitters 1 - PS2
    New display title (what you want the title to be): Timesplitters
    New search title (what string the rom manager should use to search for info from steam grid db or what explicit id): ${gameid:35537}
    The id for specific games can be found on steamgriddb (35537 is Timesplitters on PS1)
    This way there is no need to rename rom files, no need to download custom images, and all the extra meta info from steamgrid is added.

      Oh yeah and what is crazy is the mobile gaming GPU benchmarks are catching up fast with the console market. This is why PlayStation and Xbox are trying to grab as many exclusive games as they possibly can. Nvidia , AMD, Steam are all major contributors to the Vulken project, and Nvidia said their goal is to catch the console market in GPU speeds on mobile processor and they are almost there within almost a decade. Smart Phones came out in market in 2008 and look where we are now compared to the console gaming market thats been around for almost 4 decades

    After many hours of searching, the best way to transfer files between Windows and Steam Deck is to map Steam Deck's folders as network drives. I learned this from a vid on MonroeWorld YT channel.
    Mapping network drives doesn't require you to install anything on Windows or SteamDeck. All other guides want you to install apps like, Warpinator, FileZilla or Syncthing. Many users post mixed results with these apps.

    Nice guide - FYI there's a better way to handle the fact you don't want individual game links in Steam ROM Manager which stops you having to redo the whole list when you add something new. Within the left menu of SRM, at the top, is an item called 'Exclusions'. You can use this to correct titles, correct it finding the wrong SGDB entry, etc but you can also use it to exclude certain titles from being imported to Steam when running the parsers. Just fill in 'Extracted Title' and turn 'Exclude Title' on.

    Thanks a ton for this guide! It was really helpful, though I did run into an issue where my external hard drive couldn't be read by the SteamDeck. To bypass that issue:
    1. Reformat the microSD card to exFAT on your PC. Quick format works just fine here. This way, it could be read by both Windows and Linux operating systems.
    2. Transfer all roms and bios from the PC to the microSD card.
    3. Put the microSD card into the SteamDeck, go to Desktop Mode, and copy all the roms and bios to the Desktop.
    4. Go into SteamOS and reformat the microSD card in the Setting section. This way, EmuDeck's setup process can find the microSD card path.
    5. Follow the steps as they're listed in this video for basic setup (before the Steam ROM Manager part).
    6. Transfer all the roms and bios from the Desktop to the correct locations on the microSD card.
    7. Proceed with the Steam ROM Manager setup as you covered in this video to complete the whole process.
    8. Games all work and run without issue.

    Unless I missed something, if you want to tweak individual game settings it's far easier to have the game outside of Emulation Station. As a standalone 'non Steam game' you can save tweaks on a per-game basis (such as the adjustments to BotW) directly from the Steam menu overlay. If you make these adjustments after having launched in Emulation Station it applies those 'per game' settings to every single game launched in ES (I tweaked BotW in ES, Virtua Tennis 2 suddenly became locked to 40fps!)

Although, I don't own a Steam Deck, i'm going to try my hand at installing and setting up Holoiso (Steam OS) on a mini PC then add EmuDeck with the help of your guide. I've tried Batocera, but I think with the Arch and Plasma DE and integrated Steam OS this might make it more enjoyable to have the ability to do all my gaming with Steam and EmuDeck while also having the ability to use Plasma DE for other non-gaming activities, where Batocera is mainly for retro gaming.

    Something I would note in your written guide is the steam formatted sd card has a block size of 4K whereas the likely exfat formatted flashdrive from your rom source is going to have a block size of 32K. This means that trying to do a mass merge following emudeck's directory structure will result in an overwrite rather than a merge, so all the prior data you may have moved will be removed.

    Just a tip to make transferring ROMS alot easier, look up a video I found called "Transfer files from PC to Steam Deck with FTP / FileZilla"
    They can be transferred wirelessy which I found so much more convenient instead of the transferring to external storage.

    Invaluable. The Steam Deck is becoming an absolute unit. Honestly the emu deck experience used to be nigh unusable. These updates are massive improvements. I can't wait to see what the future has in store. With the GPU market still screwed up, the Steam Deck is the single best gaming device you can buy today for under 500$

    For those who know how to do it: I really liked the Network-drive-integration in Dolphin. Setting up SSH access / an FTP server allowed me to directly drag and drop files from my PC to the Steam Deck without any dongles. You may want to give that a try.

    3:56 an alternative to this if you don't have a USB c hub is to get a program called warpinator on your PC and on the steam deck.
    It will allow you to wirelessly transfer files from your PC to steamdeck and then you place said roma where you want them stored.

    • @Dracossaint
      @Dracossaint Před rokem +4

      4:37 also if you have a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard you can pair it to the steam deck in the main ui. Press the steam button scroll down to settings,then Bluetooth, scroll down to bottom and it'll show devices ready to pair. Put your device into pairing mode and select it. If your device is not showing up at first try turning the Bluetooth on and off via the toggle at the top.

    Thanks for this excellent guide! Unbelievably helpful. Here are a couple of additional small things I learned about EmuDeck the hard way:
    1. I had an issue where retroarch overrides and config were not saving properly - cheats, controller remaps, and save states were not persistent. It turned out I had two installations of retroarch - one on the hard drive and one on the sd card. Removing the internal install and clarifying the paths in retroarch Settings>Directory fixed it.
    2. By default EmuDeck selects Yabause as the retroarch core for Saturn, and I found that it would not play more than half the roms I threw at it. A helpful reddit post showed me that you can duplicate Steam Rom Manager profiles (COPY link at the bottom) and change the core association that way. I copied the Yabause profile, renamed it Beetle, and edited the Command Line Argument to replace "yabause_libretro" with "mednafen_saturn_libretro", and now I can play all of my Saturn roms.

    • @waytube
      @waytube Před rokem

      I see in the written guide that Beetle is supposed to be the default core for Saturn, but for me that wasn’t the case. Weird!
