Yeah, while JA did a decent job in this scene I can see why they decided to cast Sean Kanan as Mike Barnes for this movie. They didn't want to make Mike Barnes too similar to Chozen's character from Karate Kid 2 so they decided to make Mike Barnes an overly competitive karate practitioner who wanted the title and the money from beating Daniel LaRusso in the tournament. Plus, having him be an honorable but ruthless karate fighter would be rehashing karate kid 1 & 2, basically Johnny and Chozen 2.0. So I can see why they wanted to make Mike Barnes a far more vicious student than the previous antagonists. Granted Mike is not half as ruthless as Silver but still.

@@kangarojack3814 It was but the secret about how he got here was because of some British dude who got an interview with him as well as a relative within the movie buisness during the (80s) who is his family member that gave him the idea to audition. both my parents are from the bronx & JA is from the Bronx he actually has a funny story he came from a pretty wealthy normal family but just grew up in that graffiti era that's what he did that's what his game was and always will be behind his personal life he's a ghost.
