  • A video detailing how piston rings are installed on the piston. The model is an LS piston, but the info will carry over to many others. Always be sure to install the rings the correct way, and consult a user manual if need be. Have fun!
    I’ve had some people ask for my address to send along something, so I thought I’d leave my address here incase you’d like to! I appreciate you guys.

    Not gonna lie, I’m really glad you made this video because I have a used rotating assembly that I’m using, it was remanned in 2018 and wore out the main bearings, the rest of the engine is in great shape so I’m gonna send it. Any who, I took all the rings off too clean all the carbon off everything and discovered that the rings were not all one color anymore and had no idea which way they go back on! Good content lol

      This is exactly why I made the video! Mainly because I knew I’d have to go back and look at it myself too 🤣

    Thank you so much for this clear explanation of rings! I broke down my EVO engine, first time ever doing any such thing, and didn't know squat about rings. Now I feel confident except for one thing - my Harley friend said I need a number off of the piston in order to buy new rings, but there are NO numbers on the two pistons!
    I'm now at a road block, can't complete my order of Hastings at J&P or continue my rebuild. ('95 Harley Bad Boy Springer)

      I’m glad I could help! I think a reputable Harley dealer should be able to take your bikes VIN and get you the correct set of rings

    This was a great upload for people trying to learn. When most people take the top two rings off to gap for boost, they just leave the lowers in tact right? Nothing to modify on them so why remove them correct? Thanks

      Hey man I hope it helps someone one day!
      If the pistons were clean and the engine wasn’t burning oil I’d say yeah absolutely leave them alone.

    But oil rings doesn’t matter sometimes they face anyway but those 1 and 2 make sure they face up and play several times check cause once you close head 😂😂😂😂😂😂 it’s tough to take it out after mistakes

      Oh yeah and if they’re upside down it’s probably gonna burn some oil 🤣

      Id guess they go installed in the order you have them written here, but I can’t say for sure. It would be best to call the manufacturer of the rings and ask there to be sure

    No it can’t go both way the inner bevel goes up

    • @StationroadRatrods
      @StationroadRatrods  Před rokem

      Right, one ring has a single bevel and the other ring is completely round on the inside
