@@lynashmcmash4427 not sure if sarcasm or not but yeah, there was so much depth and backstory to that scene! Everyone focuses on the “I am your father” line but immediately after is “Luke you can destroy the emperor. He has foreseen this. It is your destiny. Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son.” It’s so crazy hearing that after the prequels, Clone Wars show, all the Vader comics, etc and seeing how much pain and suffering Palpatine had brought Vader. Makes me wonder how different things would’ve been if Luke had joined him in this moment.

@@TheAwesomePadronShow Sorry for the confusion, not sarcasm. I first saw SW V at a young age so I never really thought about the plot so deeply. Like in VI he sees Luke in pain in their final battle and quite literally "over THROWS" the emperor off the ledge, but he had been planning to get rid of him long before that moment. That's what your comment made me realize
@@lynashmcmash4427 yeah no worries! Tone is just hard to read through text lol. But yeah I love that fight. There’s a lot of under text to it. Vader is pretty much testing Luke the whole time to see if he’d be ready to take on Palpatine. At first Vader thinks he’s not ready and that he beat him easily when he knocked Luke into the carbonate chamber and is about to freeze him in carbonite. But then Luke force jumps out which impressed Vader (“impressive, most impressive”) and the rest of the time he continues to test Luke to see how powerful he is. The whole time he’s taking it easy on Luke until Luke proves he’s not going to just give up and submit (even when knocked to the ground and told he is beaten) and even lands a blow on Vader’s shoulder (which is armor protected him from). So that’s when Vader goes into serious mode and cuts off his hand to end the fight and finally lay down the reveals and get Luke to join him, now that he knows what Palpatine has foreseen (about Luke destroying him) could actually be true
