  • This is the 1957 nfl championship game synced with NBC's original radio broadcast. It's by no means perfect but you get a pretty good feel for the game.

    I actually saw this game in person with a close friend. We had standing room tickets but ended up sitting on the steps of an aisle on the 50 yd line. Great memories for a longtime Lion fan. I was 19 at the time.

    Tobin Rote, Lions quarterback, is the answer to a trivia question. Who quarterbacked a team to both an NFL and AFL championship victory? In addition to the Lions in 1957, he also quarterbacked the San Diego Chargers to an AFL championship win over the Patriots in 1963.

    BOBBY LAYNE(on crutches in the vid.) never played a prominent role for Detroit again after his 1957 injury. In '58, after two games played, one as a starter, he was off to PITTSBURGH to play for his old LIONS boss, BUDDY PARKER. GEORGE WILSON was the LIONS ROOKIE head coach in 1957.. Later WILSON was the original AFL DOLPHINS
    HEAD MAN. His son played for him at MIAMI..
    WILSON AND PARKER at one time were coaches on the LIONS, with Wilson assisting PARKER.
    Meanwhile, LAYNE, a TEXAN, was my late Dad's ALL-TIME favorite NFL player.
    RIP LAYNE, WILSON AND PARKER..AND T. ROTE..three of the four were TEXANS, but not WILSON.

    The Detroit Lions drought is 65 years old or shall we say longer than 70% of the current population has been alive. I thought 1991 would finally be their year after decisively winning the divisional playoff game but it all fell apart a week later. It's been a rocky road since. Perhaps the Ford family needs to sell the team and stick to selling cars.
    For the Browns this was Jim Brown's rookie year.

    It seems strange to watch the TV minimalist RAY SCOTT being a wordy describer on Radio play-by-play..
    Both ways can be right if done correctly.
    Finally, that was a big mistake made by a national announcer with the mixing up of the Carpenter bros.
    Ray Scott is a legend in our business, but the goof is inexcusable.
    LEW= 30..PRESTON= 40..
    L comes before P in the alphabet..#30 comes before 40..memorize it that way..
    and didn't RAY SCOTT have a lineup and depth chart board?
    You'd think a guy with a brother who was also at the time a famous announcer, HAL SCOTT, would be sensitive to getting brothers in the right order..
    PRESTON in 1957 was a receiver, too. LEW was a runningback.
    R.I.P., RAY SCOTT..
