- This short, but powerful documentary tells the story of Paul Gentile and his 16 year quest to build an exact, functional 1/7 scale replica of the famed original White House Steinway piano. The original White House Steinway, serial number 100,000, was donated to the American people in 1903 to show the Steinway family's gratitude, as an immigrant family that lived out the "American Dream" in creating a successful business in New York City, beginning in 1853. That famous piano is now part of the collection at the Smithsonian Institution, and was replaced by another famous piano in the White House (Steinway serial number 300,000, donated in 1938).
In replicating the piano, Paul Gentile had to painstakingly re-create over 12,000 individual parts - often creating custom 1/7 scale machinery and tools in order to create parts of the piano in the same way the master artisans at Steinway & Sons create the full-sized versions. As Paul mentions, there were many immense hurdles, and many times he thought he was at a dead-end, but he persevered and eventually achieved his goal, which some describe as "incredible" while others describe as "insane" - though it's probably a little bit of both.

Israel Chukwuebuka Have you bought it?
The following is a short video on Paul Gentile's miniature White House Steinway piano that we've been hearing so much positive feedback about today. If you haven't seen it yet, enjoy!
I still would prefair one of your grand pianos in fill size form
Did you guys get to hear it?
I saw this piano at a car show of all places (It was amongst some of the nicest exotic cars produced today) and other Steinways. As I was admiring the piece, Paul approached and answered questions and spoke about the piano. It took me a few minutes, before I finally realized, I was speaking with its creator. Such an honour to meet such a talented individual. You need a chair, sit down, and take time to admire the detail and craftsmanship put into it.
Wow! What an amazing achievement. I choked up a bit myself when the artist tried to explain the feeling of his model being called a Steinway.
Well done Sir!
Me too... his effort is beyond comprehension
I cried. Such a beautiful instrument and inspiring Man! And the fact they called his miniature a Steinway, incredible
was really waiting for him to strike a key on that piano :\
+Francis Arthur are you serious? 5:24
+CALVIN&LANZ That was just one :(
goofy hippie Steven from Pattern shop....he should have been gone along time ago....I Wonder who's he blowing to still be around
Just Me Awesome video!!
Wow, that is insane. I actually kind of felt what he was feeling when he was asked about "how it made him feel" that his piano was actually considered a Steinway Piano. That is brilliant.
What incredible talent! It was lovely meeting you and your wife today, Paul.
whatever you were paid it will never be enough but what you learned priceless!!!
But what does it SOUND like?!?

Adolf Hedgehog Awesome video!!
I have a black Steinway upright piano. It was given to me by my parents for my 6th birthday, and the people who moved the piano gave my a gaint teddy bear. I'm starting level 7 now. I started piano when I was 4, and my teacher said that electric pianos weren't good. My parents saw my passion for music. They would take me for a stroll in my baby stroller, and I would listen to the neighbor playing piano, and I would fall asleep. I'm hoping to be a music teacher when I grow up, and hopefully get a Steinway grand piano. My current music teacher works at a high-ranked music school, and she teaches me to "relax". I thnk I'm getting it, so I'm putting a goal to learn harder songs.
I had the honor of talking to his wife today (they live in my neighborhood) and I was in tears when I heard the story behind the making of this masterpiece and all the other thing that his wife and daughter are doing. This is a family of artists.
Has there ever been any other Steinway piano constructed by only one person? I think this guy won that cake.
Yes. Not a Steinway, but another working piano, and it's in 1:12 scale - almost half the size. The artist was Gerald Crawford. He did it for the Winterthur catalog in 1990. It cost $8000, and I still regret not buying it when I had the chance.
What an achievement!
And to be recognised as a Steinway piano, that's something to be extremely proud of.
That is absolutely insane! Excuse me while I reattach my lower jaw once I manage to find it.
I've often wondered what it would take to make a fully functioning and perfectly scaled down replica of a Lyon&Healy Salzedo model or even still, a Louis XV Special harp complete with its matching accessories, but this bloke has blown those ideas clean out the water with his work.
this wasn't about creativity it was about be patient to be creative
Truly an amazing piece of art
What an artist!!!
You my friend are a master worker!!! I had to pause and collect my self before I was going to cry!
Uma verdadeira obra de arte
wow, omg, WOW That piano needs to be in a museum!
+StPalliGrl I think this piano must to (video) The Toy Piano and the Genius Pianist
Madness. Just madness.
Such mastery and beauty achieved by this man. Bravo
A genius.
This is just incredible! NSTAAF thankyou!
A stunning, gorgeous piece of art. Absolutely amazing feat. And, for it to be called a Steinway, that's awesome.
Oh beautiful, it is the dream of my dad have a beautiful Steinway piano !!!!
Oscar Wilde once said "Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life". I think this is a case of Art imitating Art.
Not a super hero, but superb hero.
Very interesting - and fascinating project. Could not help but observe that the Steinway factory has a lot of work in process inventory. That being said there are absolutely beautiful sounding and looking pianos.
Impressive! Certainly makes piano moving easy!
Amazing focus! A work of Art.
Stunning.
incredible
Absolutely amazing!
This is quite special - beautiful work!
Tutto il rispetto ad un vero Maestro come Paolo Gentile!!
That is extraordinary,
that is some real determination. very awesome.
Beautiful and soul satisfying
Amazing!
The White House Steinway Piano is a national treasure. Also, this Steinway video reminds me of Plato's three degrees of separation from God: the architect, the craftsman and the artist.
This man is a genious.
How could this whole film exist, and the "working" part of the working miniature is never demonstrated?? We all want to know what it sounds like - we all want to see it WORK!!
Phenomenal!
What an achievement!
Aren't some people brilliant?
I can't even imagine how expensive the normal full size White House Grand piano is when the miniature is already 14 million dollars
That's epic!
I wanna play that mini bass
I wonder what it sounds like...
I can not play the piano properly, it would be a dream to work on them. It's too beautiful a work of art, God is formidable.
nice
Imagine a little mouse playing it
I was just like: JUST HIT A KEY ALREADY!
A story about President Bush, the White House piano, the concert and the pianist.
In 2007 was poanist & composer Emily Bear (and 3 Awards winner at age 6) invited by Presidant George Bush to gifs a concert in the White House for the presidental family and 450 guest. Emily Bear was 6 year old, but already for two years a professional composer and a year a professional concert pianist.
The photo's of that concert with Emily at age 6 playing the piano, and with the President are on my Google+ channel.
What was the piece being played in the background? Man, it was so good!
What's the first song ?
It's so lovely
Finally, a piano for Donald Trump-sized hands.
do his instruments work
Well what does it sound like

"I can't explain it myself".
The explanation is Idealization.
Folk idealize things in their world as a focus, a thing to focus on.
.
He could just as easily been a Body-Builder competitor; it is all idealization.
Without idealization, folk would be goalless and have nothing to do.
.
Extrinsic benefits of pursuing an idealized thing, are:
That you feel like you are doing something that inspires the envy of others.
That you are _touched_ by the idealized object, in so doing.
.
All of this is idealization and not (philosophically) _Real_.
eg: There are plenty of Steinway pianos, in Landfill dumps, across this entire planet.
o0o
WHAT IS THIS?? A PIANO FOR ANTS??
Queen ants only. Regular peasants like ants don't get the privilege of playing such a piano like this one.
Anyone else see the sign lord if not you have to find it
1:34 SpongeBob SquarePants 😀
Whats that piano song at 4:24?
+Cory Stephens It is J. S. Bach's Toccata in F-Sharp Minor, BWV 910, played by Andrew Rangell
