- Our visit to the Strasburg Railroad's Day Out With Thomas event wouldn't be complete without following Sodor's #1 engine!
Join Thomas as he works to push and pull trainloads of happy passengers through the Amish farmlands of Lancaster County, PA. As with Percy's video, I have included subtitles so you can hear what Thomas is saying.
At the end, Thomas shoves the train into a siding for the night and heads off to the enginehouse for a well-earned rest.

No, Thomas never pulls a revenue freight train.
However, he did a test run with a caboose to Leaman Place Junction before this past weekend’s excursions and did some switching (or “shunting”) with some freight cars at Strasburg’s new interchange yard.

8:23-8:58...What happened then, no one knows. Perhaps they forgot to couple Thomas to the train or perhaps the driver pulled the lever by mistake. Anyhow, Thomas started...and you know the rest.

Ah so it is a powered steam loco, thought it was just a dummy like the others they have, that actualy runs steam, can someone till me did they take an old one and put the shell around it, is this one of the regular locos that they pull the grain to mill with when not used in excursion, or did they build this from scratch frame up?
+manga12 - Strasburg has the ONLY steam-powered Thomas in the USA. The Strasburg Railroad's workshops built the other non-powered replicas, as well as the Percy replica that debuted last year.
Also, Thomas is not used for any other assignments aside from the "Day Out With Thomas" event.
+Christopher Kovacs i see, was this assembled from an old loco or did they make it from scratch the thomas that is, that is to say was he built from the ground up out of new parts or did they take one of the old tank engines and put face and parts on it to make it look like thomas.
+manga12 Yes, Thomas is made from an older locomotive. It was originally built in 1917 by H.K. Porter Co. for the Brooklyn East District Terminal as #15. The superstructure for #15 was patterned off the G-Gauge model of Thomas that was originally used in the TV Series.
The new animatronic face was made by Garner Holt Productions, who have made parade floats and other animatronic equipment for Disney theme parks and other entertainment venues.

You'd think at least some of the kids would recognize that his running gear is totally different from the show.
While that's true, Strasburg is basically working with what they've got. Though the external cylinders might be off-putting to the rivet counters, but to most kids, they just see Thomas and that's all that matters.
Thats like the first thing I noticed I guess sometimes knowing trains can focus your attention like that :P It looks more like percy's cylinders but still Thomas's wheel base. I doubt the kids would notice unless they were specifically looking for them on a toy they were holding. It's kinda odd changing an American Locomotive into a British one so I guess for that they did the closest they could.
A kid might though, notice the smoke isn't white
