My own "Ol' Rube" (aka Ruby.... #077 Built 1999), even with live-steam experienced TLC, and always run indoors at sedate speeds, and never abused or crashed..... only lasted 100.6 Hours (!), including several required Valve-Gear 'Tune-Ups'. Unfortunately good ol' Accucraft does not supply any repair or replacement parts..... a big disappointment! And, so discouraged I finally had to send "Ol' Rube" to the SCRAP YARD !! One other Accu Loco a 2-4-4T "Forney", much like my experience with "Ol' Rube", lasted only @ 77 Hours before certain irreplaceable Valve-Gear parts wore out, even always having been carefully lubricated(!)..... so it is now "Out-Of-Service" awaiting a complete Cylinder & Chassis replacement using a Roundhouse "Sammy" Chassis, which should have better longevity (and R-House DOES supply parts when needed)!! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ACCUCRAPT LOCO !!

This is indeed her toughest test, and I too am holding onto her since I first discovered her a few years back. I love this ship and feel exactly the same. There is a reason why the big U has survived this long. I feel something will happen at the right time. I certainly know that she is not moving anytime soon, at least not very far.

I didn't expect you to mention FEC. My brother and I are big fans of the road name. We featured the mountain type in our recent video on @drewski'strainsandtravels channel.

Funny you uploaded a video on this railroad, because we were just at the Zig Zag Railway in the Blue Mountains on Friday, and the locomotive was another USATC S118 (Queensland Railways AC16). So what a coincidence. Overall, great video. I’d sure want to tour around a theme park by a live steam locomotive.

Sucks that #12 couldn’t run with her Shenandoah central lettering due to poor timing with the firebox, so I was fortunate enough to see and record her in action during DOWT. Also poor timing with me not able to attend, but anyways, nice on going to tweetsie for the first time dude and nice footage of that weekend and talking about the railroad’s origins. Not only we have #12 today but now at doe river gorge ministries in Hampton, TN you can ride to the gorge as well on the original right of way. PS I think I prefer the legend when tweetsie came about from the engine’s whistles, because that’s what most people believe.

As the city of Long Beach has learned, these obsolete great ships are white elephants. They are costly to maintain, and they do not pay for themselves as a tourist attraction. Although I, too, would love to see this ship be restored in some fashion, the hard truth is that it is time to say goodbye, and let her be recycled or turned into an underwater fish habitat/artificial reef.

People today don't have any connection to what the ship accomplished or what it represented. But, the other thing, I think that hurts the ship is that all the human relatable parts (the interiors) have been removed. So, it is more a tougher sell as a result.

I have been on the rail fans tour 2 years ago here, what a beautiful monument to this great man. Thank you Jerry Joe Jacobson for your dream of this beautiful building and saving such beautiful machines. Thank you Laura Jacobson for being a big part of this great endeavor.

Got to see her in June during my big PA trip. She's truly an amazing ship and I hope she can find a new home in time.
