I grew up with dogs both big and small and I am terrified of dogs but ironically it’s not even Rottweilers that scare me the most it’s pittbulls! I agree that the training is the most important thing. But I have 2 Brittanys who were viciously attacked by a bullmastiff who bolted out of a home on a street we were taking a walk on (in a subdivision). The attack was 100% unprovoked, and I had to watch the dog come across the street and attack us.I jumped on the dog to try to pull him off my dogs, and fortunately someone in a house near the attack was able to get him off. The injuries weren't fatal, but cost thousands of dollars. The dog owner was horrified about what happened. But the natural instinct of some dogs prevails in certain situations. I'm a dog lover - I was asked by the city if I wanted the dog put down, and I said no. But imagine if I was walking with a child? My dogs were very injured and I could have been as well. Is it really worth having these powerful dogs in our neighbourhoods? I'm really not sure.

I was raised in a farm where we used all kinds of dogs for different things. Spanish mastiffs were always the first choice for guarding the house and the sheep because they have very similar qualities to the Caucasian shepherd. Still, those dogs need to be taught aggression and trained for these rolls. I agree with you that these breeds should not be raised in an urban environment by people who don't know how to handle and properly train work dogs, that's the very reason that can make them dangerous. However, in the right hands, the dogs on this list are always great dogs who are happy to work side by side with you.

It's the owners of the dog that aren't worth having in the neighborhood and shouldn't allowed have these dogs. Yes they are dangerous 100% but if you want these breeds of dogs you have to be prepared to put on the work and have them secure if your living in a neighborhood. I have 2 rottweilers and if you get these dogs to protect you and don't train it right, it can do damage.

My rottweiler is scared of my brother's 2 pound kitten. But when he said that they will risk their lives for those in their pack, he was not kidding. They are the most loyal breed ever, to the point that separation anxiety from their owner is very common (mine). but when it comes to protecting children, little animals and elderly, my baby girl gets a confidence in her that is astonishing and i dont know where it comes from. One time at the dog park, another dog tried to nip my 6 year old nephew's arm. My rottie came in from the side and t-boned this dog with her chest and made all 4 paws of the other dog leave the ground. My girl proceeded to walk side to side in front of my nephew with a "try me" look in her eyes. DONT GET A ROTTIE IF YOU CANT BE THE ALPHA OR CANT HANDLE THEIR STRENGTH. Thats why most rotties end up in pounds :(

I have a wolf dog . He is mid content wolf and husky hybrid. Very loyal . Very very stubborn . For an average trainer definitely not the best idea to get one unless you fully commit to training . He loves my kids and hates everyone who is not immediate family . Very aggressive with other dogs and strangers . Breaks every tie out cable and chain for bathroom usage . He is house trained but keeping him to the yard when he is out for the potty is nearly impossible . The can dig holes big enough to crawl through under fences and jump over obstacles up to 6 feet . So yeah you want one go ahead just know they aren’t your average dog and require a lot of training and discipline .most are legal if they are at least %5 domesticated dog breed
