- This sheep had flystrike in an unusual place, up on it's neck and shoulder. Hopefully with Autumn in full swing our flystrike cases will slow down and stop for the season.

you are the only youtuber that produce such ON POINT flystrike video, no waste of time talking, no fancy edits just direct to the actions.
Thanks, it is the goal. We want to show farming in a real time POV style.
Absolutely

You are a good farmer to take care of your sheep so well. To alleviate suffering is the highest calling.
That sheep was so adorable!
Bless you for helping her.❤
Thanks for helping that sweet baby 🐑❤️🐑
She must feel so much better, it satisfying to watch
Imagine an itch that moves and gets bigger, I’d be insane.
You are a good farmer to take care of your sheep so well.
Thanks for caring for the sheep. Good shephard❤
Thank you for helping poor baby. It must be so painful.❤️
Imagine it round your backside then.
It is. I have been dealing with it for two years now. My doctor won’t believe me, my church doesn’t want to hear about it, and my husband doesn’t know what to do. He has it too, but my case seems to be worse. I don’t know anyone else that has it, (except for some stray cats that we recently started feeding, but we had it a while before my husband finally let me feed them. )but it’s horrible.
Please stop interacting with wild animals for your sake
Poor thing😢. She must feel So much Better now👍🏼🙏
Your channel is really growing, I love when my favorite CZcamsrs channels start getting bigger. Congrats on the way to 10k 😊🎉❤
Thanks pjay. We're glad to have you along with us. It's enjoyable to share our farming experience with everyone.
My gosh, that flystrike looks painful and irritating. I'm relieved they are relieved. ❤
These animals are so peaceful.
Poor baby i hope it heals fast
I feel itchy all over my body watching these.
Poor little girl. Its horrible to see them with flystrike. It looks so sore. ❤🐑
Are they painful?
@@michellesimien7727I bet so , at least getting eaten by maggots sounds painful.
bet she loved the result. Well done.

sheep did not want any of that spray business xD
Never do!
Maybe use the spray a lot more often. @@FarmWithMeNZ

IT'S SAD LOOKS VERY PAINFUL POOR SHEEP😢😢😢😢😢
When I had Angora rabbits I examined them for signs of flystrike daily during summer. It always occurred in their rectal area. If not caught early, the rabbit had to be uthanised.
That sounds terrible! I guess I have had chickens get that same problem as the rabbits.
6th generation cattle farmer from North Central Montana, most folks don't have a clue just how hard life can be as a farmer of any size. While my family farm is likely on a far larger scale with hundreds of head along with thousands of arable hectors of land even the smaller farms life isn't sunshine and rainbows. Seeing a hard working dedicated farmer like your self sharing their story and show just how tedious farm life can be I solute you. After having watched your videos for a while now I might head to a friend of mine who has a sheep farm down in Wisconsin. I would like to learn more about sheep tending and care along with maybe getting some practice in with sheering as I have heard it can be extremely taxing not only on the sheerer but the animal too hence the need to work fast but also be super accurate. Thank you so much for the insights I have seen with your videos #farmwithme. More farmers should use this platform to showcase where America's true wealth is made, on an American farm. Cheers and congrats on making it near 10k subs
I wanted to reply to my own comment as just yesterday I called my buddy who has a 250 head sheep farm in Wisconsin and lagit asked if I could come down to "learn from the Sheep Yoda" as I call him. He said "Sure man but I don't think you can handle it". Challenge accepted good sir challenge accepted. So #FarmWithMe...any tips for a noobie? Would like to show up this summer and something I can impressive the old coot with. He's 67 I am 55 we are both old...
Haha sounds awesome!
I should have done video on how to flip sheep the easy way for you!
What part of Wisconsin is he in?
@@FarmWithMeNZ That would be perfect kind sir, would love to impress him at least a little, as I know he's not going to go easy one me. Being an Older fart than even me he's old school, a sink or swim sort of fellow. And he is just south of Sextonville near a small hamlet called Buena Vista. I sell him maize feed stock along with sawdust which I only assume he uses for bedding.
That looks crazy
Love that you took care of that sweet sheep. In the future can you zoom in the camera closer. So, we can see how many maggots and stuff. Also, do u think this process hurts or feels good to them. Im sure when it is all said and done they feels worlds better. But, the shaving and treatments.
There are other videos that show a closer view. Often CZcams doesn't like us showing the wound in detail, the videos get in trouble. Stay subscribed as in the future we plan to have Alot of our close up videos available to channel members.
Sunburn, I wouldn’t have thought of that. Quite interesting.
great vedio ASMAR
Sheep be like Thank You for hitting the itch I couldn’t scratch. Imagine how itchy those little buggers are.
How do the maggots or flies cause the wool to go dark?
Why are they not checking them more regularly That looks extremely painful and could have been stopped way before this stage
Flystrike across the shoulders is quite common in western Australia especially when it's warm and wet. I'd just shear the whole sheep In a case like that.
Is there anything you can spray on them in advance so they don't get fly strike?
My shearer today said it's not a weird place. When a sheep with footrot lies down, its rear feet touch its neck. If there are maggots in the foot cleft, these move to the neck with ease.
I've had a few with it around the neck, shoulder area. None of them had footrot though
@@Connor6569 someone else said that the area around the shoulders is the most densely growing wool. Add in Texel. Add in matted wool. If it rains a lot and there is no time in between showers for the fleece to completely dry out, this creates a PERFECT base for eggs and maggots. That's why in Spring 2023, flystrike has been so common on the shoulders.
Just curious....why do you spray the ointment on the back of the sheep? Also, why was the infected area not covered with spray? It looked so painful!!
Thanks for answering the question re. sunburn. I've been wondering about that. Another question: Do you use any product on the ground where you shave flystuck sheep to irradicate the maggots that come off during shearing? Thanks.
I would burn the wool if it was me lol
We don't use any product on the removed wool on the ground. The maggots once on the ground most likely get eaten by birds and such.
@@FarmWithMeNZ I thought they pupated?
Just ask the sheep nicely to stand still and it might, you never know.😂❤. Good job though 👍🏻.
Next time! 😀
What treatment spray do you use?
In only three short videos I have become an expert in flystrike. My next step is to purchase a flock of sheep and begin my new life as a herder.
Best of luck with that bro 🐑🐑
It might seem a silly question, but is the rst of the fleece okay for use after fly strike.?
Yeah, the unaffected fleece is still good to be sold and used.
what is this purple treatment ? antibiotic ?
I recall my old man trying to make lowland sheep pay in the UK.
1st attack in spring would be shoulder maggots followed by rear strikes in summer. In damp summers I've even seen them blow their feet.
Horrible!
All the dark coloration is blood? Or a wound?
I cant imagine how it is smelling.
At first glance I thought the thumbnail was of a sheep getting shot or decapitated. Glad to see it was the opposite outcome of it being healed lol
Where’s does those dark spot comes from. Does those thing you spray does it hurt a lot. Does it have to be spray on the sheep or can you spray on the glass
The pink spray is used to help fight against fly strike.
It shouldn’t hurt the sheep at all.
Tails are also docked as lambs to help with fly strike.
But the wounded area is uncomfortable and smelly.
She was pretty well behaved
Yeah, its nice when they cooperate.
I found it so cute that when you’re shearing them, they’re kicking their legs and wiggling like “ah yeah that’s the spot!” Also so cute when they rejoin their flock! Do they get lonely or depressed if away from their flock too long?
The do get nervous being apart but we keep to a minimum.
What did he use
Aren’t you afraid of the maggots getting on you? How long does it take for them to die once they are off the sheep?
Not afraid, but certainly not wanting them on me. Most get cut up by the blades, the ones that go to the ground alive probably get eaten by birds and critters.
So one invasive species save another from a native specie?
Love it, but felt like a wolf attack and they don't fight back 😢😢😢
Can this sheep catch cold because of this autumn cut? Or in winter because of the shorter wool cover?
It's generally not the best idea to take their fleece in winter as it can be very hard on them. But like us thier wool grows back fast.
Flytraps?
Considering the maggots eat living flesh instead of dead, does the affected area still have an unpleasant odor like a decaying wound?
Yeah. It smells bad as they excrete thier filth.
would be helpful if you include in description what a flystrike is
Here's a video we made explaining how and why this happens czcams.com/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/video.html.
Looks like she had it under her front legs too.
So what happens to the infested wool on the ground?
Goes into the compost
What is the overall lose due to fly strike yearly to your harvest
Around 3 percent affected, a few will die unfortunately each year from it, especially older sheep that are not as strong.
How long does the fly strike season last?
Usually it is worst in the summer months ( November to March ) but we've had occurrence all year long in years with mild winters. New Zealand's climate is such that flies can be active for most of the year.
🙏❤❤❤
Does that hurt when you cut over fly strike?
It is probably uncomfortable but ultimately has to be done for the betterment of the sheep's health.
must be so uncomfortable them to feel those maggots crawling all around. Jeez.
Poor baby they really munched on her good
Well if I ever see a pink sheep I will now know why it's pink lol
Yep, don’t touch pink area either.
Other sheep: look, he is getting the dark patch, dont be around it.
Bruh, this is like zombie apocalypse
So true.
Be carefully wear something like groves 😮
That must be so sore and itchy!
Exactly what it feels like.
In my country we let them swim the in the pool of special medical solution once or twice a year.
Albertsons lamb chops
What is that spray ?
Preventative treatment, it’s basically pink spray for infections like fly strike.
Se puede poner en español. No sé qué enfermedad es 😢
Dang. What happens when they eat into your sheep? Can you save them?😮
If they are treated in time they can be saved. But if left too long the sheep would die.
@@FarmWithMeNZ the same way rabbits do if flies got after them...
Is there some sort of trap for Blowflies?
There are. We would need too many over 1000 acres.

Poor baby
I can smell watching this hahahaha
Could somebody please take the time if they have it to explain to me how a blowfly infestation happens to cause this dreadful ailment for the poor Sheep as I would of thought with all that wool it would be quite hard for anything to get under there ?
Here's a video we made explaining how and why this happens czcams.com/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/video.html
@@FarmWithMeNZ thank you so much for taking the time to help me understand xxxxxx
Why do flies do fly strikes on these animals?
They prey on the sheep, using them as a host for thier young to eat.
A sheep once infected will eventually die and become a breeding ground for thousands of flies.
@@FarmWithMeNZ why didn’t you treat the wound? Why did you spray the preventive directly on the wound? Didn’t that burn her open flesh? Seems cruel.
@@MsKindaSorta well, I only take care of cattle, but I believe it's the same idea: the treatment and prevention are mostly on the same product. When the dude used the sheers, the maggots got cut in a half, and then the spray, yes, it hurts when touches the wound, but it's like when you clean a wound: this pain passes. Without the product, the sheep perish.
And isn't much thing to do with these kind of wound, I mean, put something over it causes infection, so the best idea is let their organism do their part.
This isn't cruel. Its part of the process. sometimes the animal get in this situation and these treatments are necessary, it's like a medical procedure, you look dead during them, but after you recover your health.
Little Bo Peep had to use scissors to do this.
😅
Can a Flystrike kill a sheep?
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
How you make money off these sheep? Meet and wool?

It's the most effective way to control the sheep. You can't shear a sheep with her trashing around otherwise you could cause some serious harm with the shears.
I grew up on a farm, had every farm animal at one time or another. What the hell is a flystrike?
Here's a video we made explaining it more clearly. It's a common issue in some parts of the world. czcams.com/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/video.html

A lot of paddocks have no trees
Yes that's true, but we do have 70 acres of native forest on the farm. Maybe I'll do a video about all the different areas on our farm. Thanks for sparking that idea.
Poor little thing,,that looks,so bad and sore.
What do you put on your fly strike.?
Typically a product called maggo or another insect inhibitor.
Oh, baby! How miserable!
I bet the stench is overwhelming at times. 😷🤢
It's not nice!

So the song "ba ba black sheep have you any wool" the deep meaning is about a flystrike turn a sheep into black? That's explain why they only have 3 begs full. Lot's of the sheep died perhaps? I don't know, just wondering.
😐 Definitely adds a new perspective.
