It was such a pleasure to meet and film with legendary barber Hideki Kakinouchi! Mr. Kakinouchi opened the iconic Blue Velvet’s shop over 30 years ago which specializes in classic hairstyles - Pompadours and Ducktails.
The artwork adorning Blue Velvet’s walls immediately captures your attention upon entering the shop. Created by a friend, the hand painted tigers and dragons are pieces of art that add a touch of timeless beauty to the atmosphere.
Over the years, Mr. Kakinouchi has been a successful entrepreneur with several businesses that combined his passion for barbering, fashion, and vintage cars from the 1930s to 1950s.
Mr. Kakinouchi’s latest project has been fulfilling a dream to publish a book celebrating the art of the “Pompadour and The Ducktail” 👉🏼 haircutharry.com/8cv8

Mr. Kakinouchi is a true artist, with an unparalleled eye for detail. You can tell he approaches each haircut with the precision of a surgeon, snipping and trimming until every strand of hair is in its perfect place.

@@delpinsky with this style of haircut that’s all you can only use. There is the clipper over comb technique but shears give it that smooth finish.
I love when people are their authentic selves. Not trying to do what they think everyone else likes but just what they love and then find people it speaks to.

Trying to watch the shearing prowess, but the decor of this space is fantastic! So distracting in its retro sweetness and fun. I would want a lounge room like this for chilling and listening to music, having a snack, watching classic movies.

I've watched a fair number of HCH videos during the last few years, but this one felt different right from the start. I immediately started to get a peaceful feeling in my solar plexus and a narcotic sensation in my head. The artistry of the gentleman, the lighting and colors of the surroundings, and the stillness, even while cutting, made this so calming. And Harry, you wore that style with great aplomb!
