- Mr. Shuji’s eclectic barbershop is truly unique 💈 His family opened the shop more than 80 years ago when they moved to Takayama during WWII. Mr. Shuji was born in Takayama. He is 77 years old and has been barbering for over 60 years.
Mr. Shuij is such a fun and energetic person ❤️ He did share with us his diet and exercise regime that keeps him healthy and fit!
His mom and dad worked as barbers, and he really loved the atmosphere of their shop while growing up 😊
At a young age, he began collecting things. He recalls being interested in the dish his grandmother’s dog ate from. He liked it so much he asked if he could have it. The family thought it was a silly request, but they gave it to him and he kept it in his bedroom.
During his childhood, he remembers being poor and his family having hardships. Since they couldn't afford to buy things, he would receive items from people and fix them to play with. He also collected rocks he found in the mountain and rivers ⛰️
When he was younger, he came across this piece of wood while swimming in the river. He was drawn to it because he thought it resembled a crane.
Hanging inside the shop you’ll see his collections of colorful wall pocket vases, and on display are vintage cameras and advertising memorabilia (cutouts of celebrities).
Above the mirror on the wall is this amazing dragon he hand made with plaster 👨🏼🎨 It was sculpted directly onto the wall and took three months to complete.
With Mr. Shuji’s collections, it all made sense to hear that the nostalgic retro museum in town is his creation! 👉🏼 showakan.jp/takayama/
Also, he has honey for sale at the local farmer’s market 🍯
✨ Mr. Shuji’s life advice is, “Be cheerful; don’t fret about things.”

It was awesome to meet Mr. Shuji! He is such an energetic and fun person 😊 He also knows Mr. Kajikawa from the Barbershop Museum in Misasa 💈🙌🏼
In case you have missed any of the videos we filmed in Japan, you can watch them here👇🏼

Great video!!! Also can anybody help me, I’m trying to figure out what kind of razor the barber is using the second time. Not the straight blade but the one that’s looks like a regular modern razor but with a different handle. Trying to buy it can anybody help me find it or what it’s called?
The people in the background did an awesome job of standing still during the filming lol
They sure did; they have a lot of practice 😂
Nothing beats Japanese or Korean barbers on the ASMR sleepiness and relaxation scale.
Agreed. I wish ASMR Japan would fire up again.
@@hazbutlerI miss wolfbarber and barber88
Except Otto's barbershop
Turkish Barbers like Munur Onkan are top tier too imo
@@UltraVioletMilkjapanese mom 😅
He dresses very differently than most older men in Japan. I love his shop. Lots to look at 👍
Over the years I’ve watched your videos, and from someone who honestly didn’t know what asmr even stood for, to now fully understanding and using your videos to really unwind, I thank you, and hope for many more videos to come so that I may sleep easy at night. 🙏
It’s a very different ASMR community vs the roleplay ASMR. And even the barber ASMR community has its not great side, especially as it’s grown more popular. Harry is one of the few who has only gotten better over the years while staying consistent in his content.
i like that he didnt just do a whole face clean shave but added a style to the face. it looks good.
77?! He moves like someone half his age. Is this what happens when you do a job you love?
My Shuji sure is a fascinating character, I bet you wish you had even more time for him when listening to his stories and philosophy. This is why I simply adore Japan. I must visit!!!!!
Yours? He's mine
Something that I'm finding that I enjoy more and more is the activity with water, towels, brushes, etc. The sounds are great, but just seeing how these folks work is interesting and sometimes fascinating.
We went there two months ago and Mr Shuji was awesome!! Haircut was great and only 1500 yen. He told us stories and played a TV show he was a part of from an old VCR tape, that featured his history which seemed very much intertwined with the history of Takayama.
Definitely a surprising highlight of the trip!!
The best barber in terms of scissor skills so far. A true “Masutā” at his craft. 👍🏽👍🏽
昭和レトロを感じるいい雰囲気のお店ですね😊
I remember the distinctive smell of the soap my maternal grandfather used in his shaving cup. I finally realized what it was, pine tar soap. I got some and I can see why he used it this has to be the best shaving soap I have ever used, and I love it smell.
Hair cut harry, you are simply the best at finding these unique amazing people and their shops! You never disappoint…… so relaxing 😌
Japanese craftsmanship ist something extraordinary.
They are dead on focused at anything they’re doing and it’s something that never seizes to amaze me.
Great video Harry, as always !
Thank you
What an interesting barber and unique shop! I am really appreciating this Japanese tour Harry! Stay Safe my Friend! ♥👏
Harry bringing the good vibes and relaxation once again
💈🙌🏼❤️
If I lived in Takayama Japan, 11/10 would only go to this barber.
First time I've seen Harry not get a full shave! Barber improvisation?
That Kewpie doll is an antique just about worth its weight in gold.
Just looking at the eyes, do they look like they’re made of glass or painted!
One of the things that always blows my mind is how Barbers use such a thin lather and always have a perfect shave!
This is true tonsorial arts at its best. Based on his shop, one might think he is either a photographer or has been one in past years. Lots of great old cameras!
And the Japan tour continues with more awesomeness!
Lets do this!! Thumbs up!! 👍👍 I enjoyed the behind the scenes clip of this on your IG too.
Thank you Jason 🙏🏼 Mr. Shuji is awesome and so much fun!
You watch fast
What an awesome service. Respect to him ❤
He looks way younger then 77 years old. Whatever hes doing its working! 👍🏼
Pure relaxation.
Thanks Harry, you're the best!
That poster of the woman distracted me the whole time....not to mention the doll....🫣. Great video tho Harry.
Greetings from France I'm watching your videos 😁
Such a well made video - the sound and editing is just brilliant. Also a pleasure to watch Mr Shuji at work. Can’t wait for your Barber88 video either!
Time after time, the same image, on this planet, that there are no masters left who would do something original
Wow, he has something special, his energy is awesome. Great professional, he has become one of my favorite barbers instantly.
Why are these videos so darn relaxing, it’s like getting a message for your brain.
We are so glad to hear you enjoyed them 🙏🏼
Oh, thank you!!! Another perfect sleep for tonight. Have a blessed day Harry
Thank you 🙏🏼 You too!
Mr. Shuji 👏👏👍👍
Coiffeur très agréable et la décoration du salon est très surprenante !
Another amazing hardworking barber who is an inspiration to us all. Thank you for sharing
Delightfully eccentric barber and shop. He is the Angel Delgadillo of Japan.
I'm watching on my phone so its a bit small and for first 20 seconds i thought "wow that lady is really keen" in the background. I then realised it was a cut-out
Very cheery vibes here all round! Very nice and unique.
What a pleasant surprise to see you visit Takayama, it is a beautiful old town (and delicious hida beef too!)
What a professional!
So relaxing and peaceful.
Great energy from Mr. Shuji! Japan videos never disappoint!
He's never alone!
Great story about Mr Shuij. Sorry if misspelled.
Incredible video as usual, greetings from France!
Harry your videos always cheer me up and relax
Happy to hear that!
This gent is totally amazing.
What a beautifully peculiar shop. Another awesome video.
I been to this shop haha! Really funny guy and helpful afterwards with showing us the best spots for the local festival! Can’t beat it for only 1500 yen ($10)
That’s awesome!
Amazing service.
Witaj Harry! Kolejny wspaniały film, oraz kolejny niesamowity mistrz! Wszystkiego dobrego!
Wow what language is that?

Great video like always, awesome barber cleaning up the hair before the shave
Yeah ! Always a pleasure!
Thanks for watching the new video with Mr. Shuji! 🙌🏼💈
Don’t know why but this is sending my ASMR off the scales 😊
Always a great video experience and worth the wait. You have the best diversity and quality in you content .

日本の理髪師は最高です
Man, I'm really digging that fedora hat he's wearing. It's sharp looking!
Hell yeah, another good one
Fantastic 😊🙏🏾
Yaay a new Haircut Harry video right at nap time 😂
Hope you enjoy it 😴💤
That Style of beard looks Great on you
Love and peace ❤️
There's a very nice shop in Copenhagen which sells koi wall vases like those here! It's called Ohayo.
That’s so cool! We enjoyed seeing the collection of Koi wall vases hanging in Mr. Shuji’s shop 💈❤️
Goodnight 😴
😴💤
He knows all about that old school powder puff towel technique!
Loool, man the cut outs of people were tripping me out. I was like damn these people are really excited to see Harry get a haircut.😂
Who else noticed one of the ‘cardboard cut out people’ was a real person standing posed the entire time. You see them blink at 12:45!
Gotcha! lol
Harry, as a YT creator, I have really enjoyed watching your cinematography progress!
The video and audio quality are top-notch and inspiring.
While my content is not the same as yours, there’s a lot to be learned from watching your videos!
I think for the sake of my health you should share Mr. Shuji's exercise and diet regime. It seems to work.
Another amazing one!!
Glad you liked it :) How are things going with you? Saw that you are in India!
@@HairCutHarry Hey Harry! Yea, going well! Yes, we were recently in Mumbai and Delhi. Was fortunate enough to connect with Truefitt and get in to video a service! It was amazing! Next trip we are planning to go the exact way and do one of the roadside shops instead. How are you doing? Been in Japan alot it seems? Back in the states anytime soon?
That’s awesome - glad you had an amazing time at Truefitt & Hill! 💈🙌🏼 Hope you enjoyed your travels in India! We are back in the US now :)
@@HairCutHarry I was happy to visit again, wife enjoyed her time, but said it probably wont be the top 10 places to visit again in a while... We are looking at maybe Dubai next time, for international travels at least.
If you are ever near the southwest area again, would enjoy meeting up. Maybe we can make it happen after these what, 4 years of trying... HAHA!
Glad you are back to the US for now. Where are your next travels going to be?
Thanks!
We appreciate your support - thank you Carlos!
This one will hit a million very soon.
We hope so 🙌🏼
This guy in the Jordan's is 80? besides looking super cool his skillz are amazing....
One of the few barbers in the Japan that doesn't use that moist rug for cleaning the razer. That rug is a bacteria heaven.
Oh yes H!! Stunningly beautiful and relaxing 😌❤
An amazing video, and lovely experience you had. i recently visited one of the locations in Athens, Greece. Joy's Birth Barbershop. because i saw your video from there. was a great experience.
That’s great to hear! Glad you got to visit Joy’s Birth Barbershop - they are awesome 💈❤️

Great video 😊thank you
Thanks for watching! We had a great time meeting Mr. Shuji - he is such a fun person 💈🙌🏼
I'm not sure what's more impressive, the actual video, or that this dudes over 80 and movin and groovin like he's half his age.
Not quiet, he is 77! But nevertheless impressive, how much younger he appears.
Lovely video H ❤
crazyyy relaxing, with such a beautiful shop too! it looks like it was a great time; I hope you’ve been doing well harry!
just in time!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hi Harry, would you consider visiting a Japanese massage therapist? It would be interesting to see their techniques when massaging men. There are mostly female on female videos available.
His setup reminds me of the "Polite Barber" in Pheonix AZ.
Hey Harry good to see you with a new video. Hope you are doing good.
Can you please do a video with Matt barber, luna barber, it will be awesome to see them again.
