Neurosis has reached legendary status.. Many bands took this genre and evolved. Like the branches of a large oak tree. Especially a lot of Scandinavian bands. You would be amazed by how many bands have stated that Neurosis was a major influence on them. This is music you listen to when you go to your personal deep space. Many Amazing works have been recorded by this band! The singer did a show with Mastodon at the KPit not too long ago. It was bad ass...Thanks for playing.
Now do Through Silver in Blood or Locust Star. Note: You have to listen to Neurosis LOUD. They're like the soundtrack of an imminent apocalypse, very violent, raw and atmospheric
@@carlmarks8170 Well, some of their newer stuff is to me too, But you should listen more their a bit faster & "aggressive" older stuff from 1990´s, that´s not boring (at least to me).
Specifically the live video of Locust Star from Ozzfest. My youngest is 3 this week and when she was a baby she would fall asleep laying on me listening to Neurosis. heh
Neurosis aren't a band you listen to, but one you EXPERIENCE and THEY STRIVE to throw listeners off balance and make them feel uncomfortable with their songwriting, so the track did its job. This song is from "The Eye Of The Every Storm" and my interpretation of the song is that despite the peaceful nature of the riffing in the opening half of the track, you feel uneasy because the tranquility is temporary. The song gets heavier and faster in the 2nd half as a reminder that even when in the brief calm of the Eye, the storm is still swirling and raging around you. You just have a minor reprieve from it.
@@Peter07Pal That's true! One doesn't! Tribes Of Neurot's albums "Silver Blood Transmission" and "Grace" also elevate the experience to a higher plane when you listen to them with the corresponding Neurosis albums "Through Silver In Blood" and "Times Of Grace" simultaneously.

such a masterful album, easily my favorite from neurosis. A highlight of the post metal genre for sure. This is far from my favorite off it but even then its still an incredible piece.
More neurosis please! Locust Star, Through Silver in Blood, Fear and Sickness, Times of Grace, The Doorway. So many great tunes! I think this song deals with losing a loved one, or someone you care about, not having the capacity to bring them back to life (heal them), and the anger that follows the tragedy. I feel like that's what most of the album is about too. The last song's lyrics on the album kind of hit the idea home, imo: "Did you see your people? They all turned out for you We were all together not so long ago In the shadows we can see you In the wind we hear your laugh When the light reclaimed you We were left clawing at the sky In the oceans we can find you For the sun we praise your name In the dirt we pray for god to bring you back again I can see you, I can see you In the void the stones are turning and turning and turning I can see you, I can see you" - I Can See You, Neurosis Freakin' heartbraking, that song....
Yep. Neurosis is not a "singles" band... The albums tell a story. The themes are repeated over and over again... Fear, pain, loss, tragedy and the eventual realization that we are all stronger when we survive those things. We are the sum of our experiences.
Glad someone got you to revisit Neurosis as their sound does change from album to album. The album this track is from was my starting place for them and it happens to be their most “mellow” album yet there’s still a heft to these songs. My personal highlight on this album is “No River To Take Me Home” due to its melodic climax but I suspect the cryptic and religious imagery to the lyrics for this song made it a more enticing choice for you to react to. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Vin would get into a song like Locust Star (especially the live at ozzfest version) since it’s more immediate and getting all three of their vocalists involved always seems like a special moment. I would highly recommend a well recorded live version of a song next time because I think a big selling point for the band is seeing them perform these songs because they put so much effort into the performance. Noah hammering his keys during the chorus of Locust Star comes to mind as I’m typing this.
This album was released in 2004 and I listened to it A LOT when I was in law school. The title track "The Eye of Every Storm" is really great. "Now oath breaker sinks low!"
Maybe you guys should understand this song through the idea of "Symbols" mainly manifested on dreams and visions. "I drifted silently to the desert and began to pray , I came to a pile of ashes and sifted through it looking for teeth, A snake spoke through me again, But I could not heal their wounds" Sometimes reminds me of the exile of Jesus into the desert, which is the main symbol of a Senex-Anchorite that "travels" looking for something. The serpent/snake, could mean the "evil" which hurts. Maybe there is no rational way to understand this, but listening to the music and the lyrics, it might make sense.
in my opinion the song talks about someone sick who is fighting not only for his own life,he is fighting inside of his soul to connect again with god, trying to find relief in faith

I had a vision last night, my god was glowing
There was another bridge on fire
And the last wrecks were counted
The sky opened and the blood flowed
A distant cancerous season was upon me
I had a hook in my back and a light to guide me
My words were useless again
The leftovers were playing with my memories of love
I screamed at my god and he let me go
I drifted silently to the desert and began to pray
I came to a pile of ashes and sifted through it looking for teeth
A snake spoke through me again
But I could not heal their wounds
I'm searching for the old spirit of war
With my rough hands and a sharp knife
I need something to cut into so that my god can see me again
To be right again
To see my shadow alone
To get back to the hook and let the light burn in my soul
All I've seen walking through the fire
The figures in my dreams
Run back on me in a psychic scar
As I ride to the dawn
