The MS170 has two bar studs and nuts. The MS171 only has one. This is important because most of the models with the one stud/ nut feature often complain of the bar and chain getting loose during operation. It causes more down time in having to do adjustments.
Did you notice the video about the 171 which showed another saw including a longer bar. 3:45 to 4:00 minutes. At that point I couldn't watch this anymore.
